Anyi talks about his start in comedy in the San Francisco area and how his father was actually very supportive of him. School was tough because friends did not come easily. His enlightened parents taught him about the true history of his surroundings and that critical thinking process made it difficult for Anyi to succeed in school socially and academically.

Anyi shares a particular reggae song featured in his favorite movie but the lyrics are jolting. Maggi counters with a song with a great beat but questionable lyrics...Anyi assures her its "not that bad."

We learn that his dad pushed him into performing at a very young age, reading poetry in cafes, that his first car was just the thing to help him learn how to flirt and impress girls, and that driving on road trips was better broken down into albums...not hours.

His mom also loved music...but she listened to it in a particularly strange way that annoyed Anyi. Another song makes him think of a woman whom he really loved, who is unfortunately no longer with us today. We celebrate her through the power of song.

John shares stories of long drives with his dad and where they would end up, how his mom ran an FBI sting in her home and why a Boston criminal cheered her up. His background in small town Massachussetts let him to some strange jobs and he describes what a typical Saturday night looked like in Randolph, MA. We talk about how a car was actually limiting his mobility at his heaviest and that he felt he need to fight to disprove stereotypes about fat people. While at his heaviest, Andrew breaks down the his entire experience of airplane travel and how it should be like a game of Tetris and why hanging out at Starbucks was so much different for him at 500 pounds than his thinner companions.

Andrew shares how he went to the same high school as the Obama children, although at very separate times, and how a Peter Gabriel concert informed his half page memory in the high school year book. Motorcycles  and computers kept him moving from one clique to another in school all while MTV’s “120 Minutes” informed a majority of the soundtrack to his young life.

Born in Brazil and raised in Washington DC with one younger sister, Andrew also discusses the intense pride he feels for his sister and her accomplishments. 

After we go through Andrew’s Fave5, (of which he made an awesome playlist on Spotify for you) we shared our Listener Song of The Week; Justin from Eden Prairie, MN shared a story that involved “FreeBird” as the soundtrack. 

Band Or Bar takes us to College Park, Maryland, and Andrew’s Guilty Pleasure sounded too awesome not play a clip of it.

Today, comedian, producer, writer, creator and improvisor Marcelous Sammuel shares the soundtrack of his life.

Kendrick Lamar "Nostalgia," Nina Simone "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," Tina Marie "Deja Vu," Childish Gambino "Bonfire," and Korn "Make Me Bad" were his Fave Five Songs.

Marcelous discussed how he and his best friend became close because of a terrifying accident; how playing video games was near impossible growing up in South Central LA, and the man who made him want to become a cop. Through the music we find out the unusual way he met his wife and why she said no the first time he proposed, how super heroes help him perservere and what Disneyland was like for him the first time (as an adult).

He also explains how shopping is really different for young black men and that growing up in his house, his family would drag him out of bed at 2am to dance. A big moment of success came was when he got to play (and write in) the 'Black Cupid' character in the school play.
