<itunes:summary>A socialist and a suburban mom with very different views on progressive politics. Spoiler: they agree.

Hosted by Colorado State Rep. Lorena Garcia and Democratic strategist Val Beck

We’re Val Beck and Lorena Garcia, two Colorado women in our 40s who’ve both put our names on the ballot.

Lorena ran for the U.S. Senate and serves as a State Representative. She’s a walking cliche - a socialist and a lesbian Latina lawmaker who runs a nonprofit. Val is a soon to be TV show lead character - a former Wheat Ridge city councilor, a 20-year Democratic strategist, a straight suburban moderate, and a colorectal cancer survivor. On paper, we shouldn’t get along.

But we went to high school together, found each other again in Colorado politics, and figured out something nobody tells you: We can agree on way more than we could fight about. Clean water. Housing our kids can afford. Health care that doesn’t bankrupt you. Public lands that stay public. Neighbors who show up for each other. And standing with our immigrant neighbors.

We’re also caregivers. We know what it’s like to juggle a sick family member, a job, or jobs, and a campaign at the same time. Like most women, we don’t have time for purity tests. We’ve got people and communities to take care of.

So we argue it out like friends over drinks, grocery shopping, driving from one errand to the next, find the common ground, and get to work. VALOR is two women from different corners of the Democratic tent proving that when we stop talking past each other, we get things done.</itunes:summary>

Fresh off the midterm elections, Colorado State Rep. Lorena Garcia and Democratic strategist Val Beck have plenty to celebrate and plenty to argue about. From the uncertain outcome of Colorado's Amendment 87 to the passage of anti-trans ballot measures, election night delivered some major wins and some painful reminders that political progress is rarely straightforward.

What happens after the votes are counted? Can Democrats turn electoral victories into meaningful policies that make life more affordable? And who takes responsibility for building public support once a campaign is over?

From the emotional toll of campaign losses to voter fatigue and the future of congressional leadership, this candid post-election conversation asks a question worth taking seriously: Will Democrats deliver on the promise of this election or squander the opportunity?
