EVENT HISTORY

Fyter Fest 2019 took place on June 29, 2019, and was only the second event ever presented by AEW, coming just over a month after the company’s first event, Double or Nothing.

The event was held at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, and was presented in association with CEO Community Effort Orlando, alongside the CEO Fighting Game Championships. CEO already had a connection with professional wrestling, having previously worked with New Japan Pro Wrestling on an event in 2018.

AEW was still in the very early stages of its history at this point. Dynamite had not yet launched, and the company was continuing to introduce its wrestlers and establish its identity following Double or Nothing.

There is also a major piece of AEW history on this card. Jon Moxley makes his AEW in-ring debut against Joey Janela in an unsanctioned match. Moxley had made his surprise first appearance for AEW at Double or Nothing, attacking Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega following their main event.

EVENT HISTORY

Double or Nothing 2019 was a hugely important event because it was AEW’s first ever official event and pay per view, taking place only months after the company launched in January 2019. It followed the success of All In 2018, but this time Cody, The Young Bucks and the rest of The Elite were presenting a show under the new All Elite Wrestling banner.

There was already major interest in AEW before the show. Double or Nothing at the MGM Grand Garden Arena sold out extremely quickly, with AEW reporting a sellout in under 30 minutes.

Double or Nothing therefore wasn’t simply another wrestling pay per view. All In showed that the idea could work; Double or Nothing was the night AEW began putting that idea into practice as its own wrestling promotion. AEW would go on to launch Dynamite later that year in October 2019.

The event was created independently by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, following a challenge over whether an independent wrestling show could sell 10,000 tickets.

All In went on to sell out the arena and became an important moment in modern professional wrestling. Its success helped lay the groundwork for the launch of All Elite Wrestling in 2019.

Although All In 2018 wasn’t actually an AEW event, it became a major part of the story that eventually led to AEW.
