Oliver Wood, one half of The Wood Brothers, and founding member of Atlanta's own King Johnson, joins Bryan and Ira in the studio. Oliver has been a highly respected Atlanta singer/guitarist/songwriter for many years, first backing up respected blues artist Tinsley Ellis, then continually touring and recording with one of the best bands to come out of the southeast, King Johnson. 3 years ago, he reconnected with his brother Chris Wood (of Medeski, Martin, and Wood) to form The Wood Brothers. Their first album, Pardon Me, was released on F-Stop/Atlantic Records and recently had songs placed on three major network TV shows including Friday Night Lights and HBO's Boardwalk Empire. One track from the album, which they also perform here, was co-written with Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes.

We caught this great Dallas, Texas Rock 'N' Roll band opening for AC/DC in Atlanta last year, and we then saw them on Jimmy Kimmel Live in April. Robert Mercurio, a founding member of Galactic is our guest this week. If you are not already familiar with them, Galactic is an acclaimed Funk/Soul band from New Orleans. They began as an instrumental band highly influenced by New Orleans groups such as The Meters, but now they incorporate lead vocals more often, and are lucky enough to have worked with New Orleans legends such as Allan Toussaint, Irma Thomas, and Walter "Wolfman" Washington. Mark D'Alessio joins Bryan and Ira in the studio this week. Ira and Mark began playing music together in the early 90's while living in Baltimore, and soon after moved to Atlanta to continue their rock 'n' roll quest. Within months, they met Bryan, and an early incarnation of TONOHONEY was born. Bryan, Mark, and Ira play two songs from Tonohoney's album "Lifetime's Chore", and we discuss playing blues in Baltimore and then Atlanta, Tonohoney, Mark's long list of Atlanta bands he played with including: The Electromatics, The Breeze Kings, and Stony Brooks and JuJu Root. We also talk about Motley Crue and other 80's metal bands, "The Euclidome", "The Beach Tape", "The Bag Factory", and listen for a special appearance by Ira's Mom. Oliver Wood, one half of The Wood Brothers, and founding member of Atlanta's own King Johnson, joins Bryan and Ira in the studio. Oliver has been a highly respected Atlanta singer/guitarist/songwriter for many years, first backing up respected blues artist Tinsley Ellis, then continually touring and recording with one of the best bands to come out of the southeast, King Johnson. 3 years ago, he reconnected with his brother Chris Wood (of Medeski, Martin, and Wood) to form The Wood Brothers, who have recorded their last two full-length albums on the Blue Note label, and also a new EP of covers which they released themselves. Oliver performs two original songs in the studio (and a third to be released as a TFRadio bonus episode - stay tuned!).
