Ehler Paralegal Mediation & Notary presents - ”Tough Call: A Mediation Podcast”. CT Ehler (a certified mediator and licensed legal representative) shares her insights with her co-host, Dale Sheldon (a member of the general public).
This podcast invites the general public to look at conflict resolution creatively, legally, and with humor. Conflict is inevitable, but how we resolve it matters. In this podcast, we examine stories and talk to experts about the different ways we handle strife and discord: at home, at work, internally and externally. We look at how art, media, legal cases, and different cultures view and resolve arguments.
Each week, listeners can contribute stories or engage in the topics CT and Dale review to make the Tough Calls more manageable through a mediation lens.
This podcast is sponsored by Ehler Paralegal Mediation and Notary, and is hosted on their website: www.ehlerparalegal.com.
Subscribe and listen to ”Tough Call: A mediation podcast” today for access to expert advice, resources, and delightful reframing of media.

Karen shares how she got into Mediation and legal services, and was persuaded to get into Social services first. She speaks on her experience in high risk domestic reports, human trafficking rescue, and how it built her career in Criminal law today. She talks about the flags around narcissistic behaviors, and her observations around other behaviors. Karen shares some of her insights on what can build up in a relationship that leads to high conflict issues in mediation. This is a great episode for mediators to look at what comes up in their screening and how individuals come into sessions by asking "what is the relationship?" and "what is the real thing that is being lost?". Karen offers tips for mediators to carefully observe the behaviors of who initiates, identifying the "talker" motivations, and other flags that can arise in mediation.

Hey listeners! What songs facilitate a calm reflective mood for you? What helps with de-stressing? Do you need music to bring up up energetically to prepare you for a stressful situation? What artists do you resonate with? This week we tackle mediation and music!

This week CT and Dale cover songs often cited in media and in conflict resolution. CT cites the mediation role of "setting the scene" and the emotional side of conflict resolution through song. Dale and CT look at music as "setting the table" and various popular songs that can be discovered in the world of Mediators as options for play or preparation for a private mediation. Dale brings up how music can prepare for negotiation. CT also shares her past in clinical massage therapy, mediation and yoga teaching, and offers her publication on meditation for self-help (Email CT Ehler for a free copy of her Meditation publication: toughcallmediation@gmail.com).

Dale confesses his lack of experience in popular music, yet brings up some important conversations in pop culture that has been influenced through music artists (example: RuPaul's comment: “If you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?”). CT helps Dale navigate some popular music where artists offer up social commentary on conflict, areas of where people come together, and the nature of the human spirit through song.

Jean Sarrazin worked magic to make it as easy to hear as possible. CT gets to sit down with Daniel Cote-Ryshpan, one of the partners of former ERB Legal LLP and discuss the benefits of hiring a paralegal, especially in the areas of Self-File legal areas like Civil litigation (suing someone), family court, Wills and Estate matters, and Immigration. CT and Daniel discuss how Paralegals can either take on the legal representation in Ontario, some US States and soon British Colombia, or point out to clients when it's critical to have a lawyer represent parties.

Daniel dives into contract law, and brings up the experiences of previous generations at the turn of the 20ths century in comparison to our modern lives today in the 21st century. Daniel discusses how arbitration and forms of mediation existed before, and points to the benefit of going back into private mediation again.

Concussions are serious business. Only in the past ten years has more awareness and public education started to see a better understanding on how it can impact stress, function, and even issues of capacity. This is a really good way for people to understand how to navigate some of the day-today life, medical and legal issues that face anyone dealing with mental incapacity. This week, CT and Dale sit down with Dr. Shailla Vaidya to discuss these critical issues. CT also discusses Living Wills and why this is so critical for everyone to consider planning this, and shares why she is so passionate about making sure everyone has a proper Will set up.

Dr. Shailla Vaidya, MD MPH C-IAYT is a Physician/Yoga Therapist practicing Mind-Body Medicine in Toronto, Ontario. She studied Medicine at Dalhousie University, did her residency in Family and Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and completed a Master’s in Public Health (Management and Policy) at Harvard University. She has also served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University and the University of Toronto.
Dr. Vaidya grew up in a cultural tradition of Yoga and Ayurveda and has been bridging Eastern Wisdom with Western Medicine throughout her 20 years of medical practice. She is the creator of the Rest Reset Rise! Burnout Recovery Program, and the Reconnect Concussion Program,
both of which combine the path of yoga with the science of human function for recovery and resilience. As a “Compassion-it” Change Agent, she is effecting change in the healthcare system by healing our healers and innovating healthcare delivery.

He is also the author of a self-help memoire: The Yoga Of Divorce: A Mindful Route to Resolving Disputes. He is Google’s top-ranked Family Mediator in southern Ontario, with over 160 5-star reviews. Mike’s brand is well expressed in the name of his business: REFLECTIVE MEDIATION. He is particularly skilled in helping clients to shift their attitude. Most divorcing clients feel threatened and fearful for the future. Divorce with Dialogue opens new opportunities. He works from the start at reassuring them that the process is safe. Instead of preparing for battle and seeing the other party as the enemy – he provides coaching to develop an Attitude of Gratitude – to shift from conflict to collaboration. You are disentangling yourselves from a dysfunctional story line – this is an opportunity to generate a new script for your lives – one in which you collaborate to provide your children with a mindful model for wholesome conflict management.

Separate Paths – Shared Understanding. His book, the Yoga of Divorce, tells the story of how he choosing conversation over conflict enabled him and his ex to amicably resolve their relationship.
