The research is clear: reaching your goals, winning the lottery, even having a baby, doesn't fundamentally change how content you feel. You return to your habitual level of happiness. Most of us are simply aiming at the wrong spot.

It's a story that captures something I see in almost every person I work with, and something I lived myself for years without realising it. We build our lives around protection, chasing money, status, love, approval, because somewhere deep down, we believe there's a dragon coming for us. And the dragon feels completely real. It looks real. It feels real. But what if it isn't?

In this episode, I share Michael Neill's powerful dragon story and explore what happens when we start to see that the fear driving so much of our behaviour isn't actually about what we think it's about. I open up about how I hoarded money without realising it, how much of my identity was wrapped up in my job title, and what it felt like when both were stripped away.

When you see through the illusion of your insecure thinking, when you really see there's no dragon, something extraordinary happens. The anxiety doesn't just reduce. It dissolves. And in the quiet that follows, you reconnect with something that was always there: clarity, wisdom, and the knowing that you are already safe.

You're not scared of what you think you're scared of. You're scared of what you think.

What if it's simply neutral? This reframe didn't just change how I saw life's difficulties; it led me to a deeper version of myself I hadn't known was there.

In this episode, drawn from the archive, I unpack why some goals actually hold us back, and how goal-setting from the wrong inner state can quietly disconnect us from ourselves. I share a different approach: choosing goals that evoke a powerful way of being, and holding them lightly enough that your self-worth never depends on the outcome. It's not just about what you achieve. It's about who you become along the way.

From feeling like an outsider at school and university, to people-pleasing in adulthood in hopes of earning love and acceptance, I share how old stories shaped how I saw myself. But the real shift happened when I stopped trying to belong by proving my worth and started reconnecting with the truth of who I am beyond the noise of thoughts and judgments. I discovered that belonging doesn’t come from the outside; it comes from within. From knowing we’re already enough, already loved, already worthy, just as we are.

I talk about the times I’ve been challenged to listen to uncomfortable truths about myself, my life, and what I truly desire, and how choosing to listen anyway, even when it hurt, has led to growth, healing and deeper connection. This is about stepping out of your head and into your heart, and having the courage to hear what it’s been trying to tell you all along.

I share my own experience of being unknowingly hard on myself, constantly chasing perfection to avoid judgment and earn love. As I became more aware of this critical part of me, I learned that fighting it didn’t help. What made the difference was something far more radical: acceptance. I talk about how compassion, not correction, helped me soften that inner voice, and how imagining that critic as a younger version of myself allowed me to respond with love instead of resistance. If you’ve ever struggled with self-judgment, I hope this episode helps you find a gentler way forward.

That wake-up call helped me see just how much I’d been living in my head, disconnected from the present and the people I love. I share how childhood habits of overthinking became my coping mechanism, and how I’ve been learning to come back to presence, to love, and to life itself. This is a raw and honest reflection on the journey from numbing to feeling, from overthinking to connection, and from fear to freedom. I hope it helps you find more connection to your true self that knows you are OK, and to feel more connected to those you love.

They list facts, but it feels like boasting. One thing I have had to learn is that claiming our gifts isn't about being better than someone else.

"The more space we take up in the world, the more we give others permission to do the same." Jacob Collier.

My coach shared this poem with me. It really spoke to me. I want to share it with you so you can know you have gifts for the world. The more you share them, the more flow comes to you and the more you feel alive to life.

Cargo
by Greg Kimura

You enter life a ship laden with meaning, purpose and gifts
sent to be delivered to a hungry world.
And as much as the world needs your cargo,
you need to give it away.
Everything depends on this.

But the world forgets its needs,
and you forget your mission,
and the ancestral maps used to guide you
have become faded scrawls on the parchment of dead Pharaohs.

The cargo weighs you heavy the longer it is held
and spoilage becomes a risk.
The ship sputters from port to port and at each you ask:
"Is this the way?"

But the way cannot be found without knowing the cargo,
and the cargo cannot be known without recognizing there is a way,
and it is simply this:
You have gifts.
The world needs your gifts.
You must deliver them.

The world may not know it is starving,
but the hungry know,
and they will find you
when you discover your cargo
and start to give it away.
