Derrick started his football journey in SWFL (Naples/Estero Forida) watching the game with his dad around age four or five. He played his youth football in Estero and then on with the Cypress Hornets, forming a "super team". His path led him to the East Coast of Florida for 8th grade with the Carol City Chiefs, and then he attended St. Thomas Aquinas for his freshman and sophomore years, getting playing time and loads of recognition.

Derrick made a major move, transferring to Milton High School in Georgia at the end of his sophomore year. Milton is a strong program with recent back-to-back state championships. He found the athletes there were immediately motivated to work.

Now a 6'1", 225-pound quarterback, Derrick is known for his ability to both throw and run, with a 40-yard dash around 4.5 and speed hitting 21+ mph. He trains intensely for speed and mobility. A major influence is Cam Newton, with whom he built a relationship playing for the C1N 15U seven-on-seven program, now participating in C1N 18U with Cam.

Derrick describes Cam as energetic, serious about winning, and a valuable mentor who is the same on or off camera. Derrick understands and is learning to navigate the evolving landscape of NIL, (having to work through recent deals) and complexities of the college transfer portal. Derrick currently holds over 20 college offers, from programs including Ohio State, Auburn, Miami, and Ole Miss. Auburn was the first to offer after his move to Georgia.

Derrick is focused on building relationships with college coaches and sees playing high-level college football and potentially the NFL as a realistic plan. His immediate family has moved to Georgia to support him, while older siblings manage their family's business here in Naples, Florida.

Kurtis shares insights into: The importance of the center position, describing it as the most physical and mentally demanding role on the field. He highlights the need for a high IQ, knowing plays and assignments, and having great footwork.

His journey in football, starting around age five, and how watching NFL games with his dad fueled his passion. He discusses finding his love for football around age 12 and realizing what position he was good at and needed to study. Overcoming challenges, including being born prematurely at 2 lbs 11 oz, and playing against older, larger high school teammates while being 5'7" and 270 lbs. He explains how being underestimated sets a "fire" in him and motivates him to train harder.

His biggest accomplishment this year: getting very close to God and how faith is essential to his life and achievements. Memorable football moments, including his final 14U youth season where he became a starter and had a play, the "Kurtis special," named after him, and a high school game against Fort Myers where he felt he succeeded against expectations. Kurtis discusses the following: His experience playing on both grass and turf fields, the pros and cons of each for his position.

The significance of the relationship between the center and the quarterback. The competitiveness in the trenches and how trash talk can sometimes escalate but also motivate. The importance of teamwork over being a "one-man army," emphasizing that teams need to be a single unit. He also touches on supporting teammates when they make mistakes. The value of leadership even as a freshman, and how watching film is crucial for game preparation.

Players who have positively impacted him, including his friend, who he's played with since age six, who took him under his wing as a freshman. He also shouts out to Derek Baker as an upcoming player to watch from here is Southwest Florida.

His future aspirations, including his dream college, the University of Florida (UF), and his hope for an opportunity to play in the NFL. Looking up to and studying NFL great Jason Kelce for his footwork and technique. The tremendous support from his father, who started "OT Media" to help Kurtis and other kids get exposure, and how his dad helps less fortunate players. His deep commitment to playing football, stating he would only stop if he were "dead," and acknowledging how medical advancements help players recover from injuries.

On January 18, 1968, during his 90th combat mission, Capt. Smith's (then Lt.) fate took a dramatic turn. Forced to eject over North Vietnam, he showcased his exceptional skills as an aviator by shooting down a MIG-17 in aerial combat before his own aircraft was downed. Capt. Smith was immediately captured and held as a prisoner of war for an agonizing 1,882 days. Capt. Smith's unwavering determination guided him through the darkest days of captivity, until his long-awaited release in March 14, 1973, as part of Operation Homecoming.

Recovering from his injuries at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, Capt. Smith's commitment to service persisted. Leaving active duty on September 4, 1973, he joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard for a year before eventually departing the reserves in 1976.

Transitioning to the corporate world, Capt. Smith's exemplary leadership and strategic acumen paved the way for a successful career beyond the cockpit. In 1999, he retired as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of MidAmerican Energy, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

Now a resident of Naples, Capt. Smith has earned a well-deserved retirement, at times, humbling conveying the memories of a life lived to the fullest. Wayne and his wife Lois can often be seen organizing or attending patriotic events honoring our military, public safety and Veterans.

A 25 year veteran of the United States Secret Service, Merletti served as the agency’s 19th Director. Before becoming Director of the Secret Service Merletti served as assistant director in the Office of Training for all Secret Service employees. He served in the Presidential Protective Division under Presidents Reagan, H.W. Bush, and Clinton, and was named as the Special Agent in Charge of Presidential Protective Division (PPD), the 22nd agent to hold that position in the history of the Secret Service dating back to 1865. As the Special Agent in Charge of PPD he was ultimately responsible for the physical security of the President and First Family.

Tim McBride is the author of "Saltwater Cowboy" and a former drug smuggler. He was born and raised in the Florida Keys, where he worked as a fisherman before becoming involved in the drug trade. McBride was a key player in the marijuana smuggling industry in the 1980s, using speedboats to transport drugs from Colombia to the United States.

Alina Donahue is a Human Trafficking survivor. In 2012, Alina fell victim to this dark world we know as Human Trafficking. For months, she lived in the shadows of her trafficker. With each day that passed, she prayed that her nightmare would come to an end. After eight horrific months, Alina was finally able to escape the grasp of her trafficker during an encounter with local law enforcement. 

In 2018, Alina became the first individual in the state of Florida to have her criminal charges expunged due to being a victim of human trafficking. After making history, Alina felt she was destined to make a difference and help victims escape their traffickers. 

In 2020, Alina co-created The Shelly Stayer Shelter’s 18-month Human Trafficking Residential Program. A model program for organizations nationwide that leads the fight in providing aftercare services to survivors. Within this program, advocates are able to help female, adult survivors of sexual human trafficking by offering them intensive therapeutic services needed in order to heal and regain their self-independence.  Alina now resides in Southwest Florida with her loving husband and two daughters. She is a strong advocate for victims and survivors of human trafficking. Alina’s mission is to provide education to all, because anyone can fall victim to this heinous crime.

What are the hard truths and what buyer's need to understand?  If the buyer truly wants to have a chance to get there dream home in this market, they may have only hours to make a decision not days.

Good, new, listings priced “right” are getting offers immediately. Comps are out. If your comparing the one house in a neighborhood for sale and trying to justify pricing, good luck.

Comps can’t keep up. You have to be aggressive. Buyers must be willing to pay list or more to compete on new listings. Demand is so backed up that someone will pay. Days on the market are telling, many listings won’t make it more than 7 days before going pending. If inventory has more than 21 days on the market it’s safe to say it’s overpriced.

Cash is still king. If you are getting financing, have all your paperwork submitted, many lenders will give a conditional approval. Repairs - don’t nickel and dime sellers on repairs. Seller's will walk, it happens everyday. Think long term, don't screw up a deal for a few bucks. Sellers will just relist and some cases end up with a better offer.

• Key Takeaways: There are opportunities in this market, new listings are coming on every day.  You have to be prepared. Have your financing in order, know the neighborhood’s, make a quick, strong offer and don’t be petty with repairs.  Most importantly, use a good agent that understands the complexities of navigating this market. FOMO is the theme of year. Agents and buyers are showing their frustrations.Just remember this isn’t the same market as in the 2008. Always be kind and professional.
