There is a new app out there that tells you if there are Smart Glasses nearby and Nicole and Dan talk about the pros and cons of those glasses AND this app. In case you are unfamiliar, these are glasses from Meta that allow you to take pictures/video of folks you are talking to. Nicole also has a more personal story of someone using them in her presence. 

Dan shares a story of how we have all been manipulated every time we step into a grocery store and shopping habits may never be the same! We also talk about the item or store area that are “traps” for Dan and Nicole and Dan’s may surprise you. 

Doctors are writing prescriptions, literally, that just say “go outside” or “go to the park.” Why? Tune in to hear the reasoning behind this newest trend.

Some parents in Staten Island started a BRAWL at a 6th grade basketball game and now there are new rules for the parents. Dan was an umpire for kid’s baseball and can attest to the issue of parents at games. We talk about kids' sports getting absolutely out of control which leads into a whole discussion about Nicole growing up riding horses and Dan’s utter shock learning she used to be a barrel racer. 

Dan shares some good news in the research world for curing alzheimer’s disease. We can guarantee you will not see this coming. But you might smell it! 

And finally, McDonald’s is facing a class action lawsuit that is all about the McRib and people feeling “misled” by the name of the sandwich. Nicole and Dan discuss the standards and expectations of eating at McDonald’s and whether anyone is surprised that the McRib is NOT actually rib.

Dan starts things off by fueling Nicole’s fear of self driving cars. A Waymo in Arizona got off track (or on track, might be a better description) causing the passenger to have to make a split second decision. Would YOU get in a self-driving car?? There are times in life where Nicole needs Dan’s knowledge and she found herself in a situation this week where she needed to know the correct thing to do involving a clear traffic distraction. A thief made off with two musical instruments from a store over the holidays but returned them with a note. The note really is one for the books and Dan reads it verbatim to Nicole. A marketing opportunity is mentioned.

The USPS has a new rule about postmarks as of 1.1.2026 so everybody better pay attention, especially if you mail anything that needs to be postmarked by a certain date (rent, ballot, taxes etc). It is not being talked about a lot and we think it is important to know. We also talk about the country that is the very first to eliminate its post office. Does anything really need to be mailed these days??

Lastly Dan shares that the “Oscars of the Adult Film World” are being held in Las Vegas this month and you will not even believe where they are holding them. This kicks off a whole slew of puns that you have to hear to really get the full impact.

Dan confesses that he may be starting to understand how people can get sucked into a “relationship” with AI as he tells his story of fighting with his CHATGPT over a song. It is quite an eye opener for him and it leads nicely into our first story, which is also about AI. This one involves car rental agencies using AI to find every little ding and scratch on your rental and then making you pay for it. Is it going too far?

Next up, we have all lost something and then stumbled across it after some time has passes. Imagine doing that with a VERY large item… like an airplane. A true story out of Air India, they lost a plane for 13 YEARS. How does that even happen??

And lastly, can you imagine if you lived near a donut factory and your house always smelled like delicious donuts? Well in Massachusetts, people do get to live near a factory but they are NOT happy about the smell. Dan and Nicole explore places that would be much worse to live near and it is eye opening. Or makes your eyes water. Either way, they discuss.

It is Christmas Eve and we kick tonight off with a battle about the movie It’s A Wonderful Life. Nicole has a controversial opinion about the movie and the main character, George Bailey, and Dan DOES NOT AGREE. This might be the first time he has threatened to end the podcast over a difference of opinion. 

Next up Dan tells a VERY hilarious tale about a meditation mishap. There are a lot of stressors around the holidays and as performers, both Dan and Nicole have a lot going on. So what could possibly go work with just trying to take a moment to center oneself? Tune in and listen.

Australia has become the first country to ban social media for kids under the age of 16. What do you think of this? Dan and Nicole have no kids but they do have some thoughts on social media and if this is a good thing or bad. Either way, all eyes in the world are on this experiment to see how it pans out.

The US Transportation office has launched a new campaign, asking folks traveling by air for more civility. An interesting concept, will people do it? Over the weekend there was a VERY ballsy robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Who knew you only needed a ladder to steal from one of the most famous museums in the world! Dan and Nicole discuss what happened and whether or not they could pull off a heist. 

Amazon’s could service went down on Sunday night/into Monday and holy cow, it created some major headaches and inconveniences across the US. Dan had to actually enter a Starbucks, stand in line and place an order instead of using the app! We will likely never know the extent of what happened but we sure felt the effects.

And lastly, Delta airlines is getting some press for a fine print contract requirement that is leaving some folks stranded. It has to due with presenting the credit card used to purchase a flight when you try to take your trip. Something to know about, especially if Delta is your preferred airline.

Dan tells us a story about his Starbucks and how he is trying to influence their pop culture knowledge. It involves his order (a “Dan Latte”), a name and the movie The Birdcage.

Toilets were in the news quite a bit this past week. First off, Nicole found an article about a UK company that makes a toilet that is not level, it has a slant to the design which makes it uncomfortable to sit on for longer than 5 minutes. It claims to be “for the user” but since they are marketing to companies, we know they just want to limit employee time in the bathroom. The second toilet story is how prolonged sitting on one can cause hemorrhoids. Two great stories that go great together. 

Dan tells us about a Wisconsin gas station chain that is not going to accept pennies anymore. This led him to a big discovery that he was unaware of and that left him shook. What did he find out and how will it impact us all? You need to tune in to find out.

Driverless cars are getting pulled over and it begs the question, who is getting the citation?? This also brings up Nicole making a statement where U-Turns at a controlled intersection is illegal but apparently it is not?? Her world was shattered. This segment might be the most off topic Nicole and Dan get. 

Finally Arby’s has a new item Dan is REALLY excited about and it better not be for a limited time…

The newest craze to hit the workplace is “coffee badging.” Dan gives us all a rundown, Nicole tells you what she thought it probably meant and we all remember quarantine. Is the grass always greener, maybe as we chat about wishing we had “regular” jobs we could clock out of.

Speaking of jobs, a delivery driver in Texas should get a raise as he noticed some odd items in a delivery to a hotel and notified police. Police found a hostage situation when they arrived and based on the shopping list, it is fair to say that he saved a life. What did he have delivered, you may be asking yourself. Well, you have to tune in to find out.

If you could go back in time and “take out” someone who is currently dead, who would you take out. I mean, we all know the obvious answer but Dan has a unique answer that really throws Nicole for a loop and takes the team on a real journey.

And finally, Time Out magazine released a list of the 10 “coolest” neighborhoods in the world and the US has only one mention. And it happens to be the very neighborhood NICOLE lives in! Now, can we say it is because she lives there, maybe not. But it cannot hurt!!

If you are Gen X or older, you likely remember the days where the name Publisher’s Clearing House brought a level of excitement to your being. Dan has always wondered how they made money and apparently he was right to question that as PCH has officially declared bankruptcy. That means that people that won “for life” are no longer winners. Nicole and Dan talk about what that means for folks, magazines past and current and poor money management. 

Another cruise ship horror story (should they make this a regular feature of the podcast?)! A passenger on a cruise ship got STUCK IN A WATERSLIDE that was hanging over open water. No official word on the reason (did the waterslide malfunction? Was the passenger too big for the ride?) but the horror of the situation is the same. 

And finally a topic that really takes the team into the toilet. Literally. In China, there are certain public toilets that require you to view and ad before it will dispense toilet paper and Dan guarantees this will come to the US some day. This topic is a real spiral and we learn way more about the team’s bathroom habits than you likely want. But it is pretty funny.

Nicole attended a baseball game over the weekend and people sat behind her, which would be fine if they were assigned those seats (and did not allow their child to kick her chair the whole time). Nicole brought the topic to Dan - if a seat is empty, how do you feel about someone taking it? What if it happens on an airplane? Dan told a seat swapping story that actually had a GOOD ending. 

A horrifying advancement in medicine. A man had part of HIS OWN TOOTH implanted IN HIS EYE to help correct a vision problem and apparently this practice has been around since the 1960’s?? Nicole has a visceral reaction to the whole thing and also brings up a fun “eyeball” picture story and Dan loses his mind a little.

And finally, would you take a “dark shower"? Not as kinky as it sounds, it literally means showering in the dark as a way to calm your system before bed. Nicole feels she would hurt herself and Dan has some questions about the whole thing.

Nicole’s husband has his first colonoscopy and Nicole was able to be with him in the recovery room and he said some VERY amusing things. This led to the discovery that Dan is afraid to allow his wife to be with him when he is under as he is afraid of what he might say as he is coming to. Throw in a chat about AARP and Dan’s Lasik surgery and you have yourself a laugh-filled segment!

We have not talked about a “Karen in a while” so sit back as we talk about a Phillies fan who made their news for her VERY entitled reaction to a foul ball. Dan clears up the unspoken rules around foul balls, who can go for them and who has any “rights” about them. Did you know Dan was a ball boy for a AAA team? He rarely mentions it…

The robots truly are taking over and this time, they are entering the massage parlor! There is a company that has created a massage table that does ALL THE WORK. Dan mentions he has seen something similar in an “adult” film and there is a general level of ick with this story.

It was a tough week for Gen X kids, those of us who grew up in the 80’s. We lost some BIG names in the past week and Dan and Nicole discuss the losses, the lives and how it feels as though celebrity deaths are getting closer and closer to us. RIP Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Hulk Hogan and Ozzy Osbourne. 

A recent American Airlines flight had to evacuate the passengers via the slide and of course there is video. Side note, is there ANYTHING happening in the world that is not being captured on video?? Ah the “joys” of 2025. Anyhoodle, Dan has some thoughts on the evacuation and some issues that no one is really talking about. This leads to a whole discussion on if Dan and Nicole would help in this kind of situation (spoiler, the answer is yes) AND how Dan would run things. 

There is a town in France who wants tourists to PUT ON THEIR CLOTHES. Topless-ness is an issue for both men and women in this town and they are sick of it. Cover it up folks! Nicole was recently in Moline and saw a person with no shoes walking all over. It is a whole vibe and discussion on the podcast this week.

Did you know that any public venue needs to pay fees to play music? Well the two companies that gain from this, ASCAP and BMI, are cracking down on folks using the music without paying a fee and it is costing small businesses a lot of money. Gen Z, who apparently are being referred to as “Zoomers”, have pissed off a new sector of the world - bartenders! How and why? We discuss. We also talk about how this generation seems to have been changed by the pandemic, maybe more than any other.

There was a story in the news about a dad who was being hailed a “hero” for jumping off of a 4th floor balcony of a Disney cruise to save his kid, who had fallen into the ocean. You had to read quite a ways into the story to discover that dad had placed the kid on a railing… and then the kid fell in. We discuss whether the term “hero” is applicable in this case. 

Microsoft is saying goodbye to their “blue screen of death” but will it ever really go away? The names of things are changed all the time but people still refer to them as the old name (hello Sears Tower). We also talk Mac versus PC and let’s just say, both Nicole and Dan have a strong preference. 

And finally, did you know that USPS has special CREMATION BOXES? Nicole is stunned there is a need and Dan is surprised Nicole is stunned. There is much talk of shipping costs and Dan gives everyone a website to check out the next time they need to ship anything. You have to listen to find out what site he mentions.

We start off by apologizing for a tech glitch that removed all the previous episodes from our website and then discover a current tech glitch that impacted the recording of this episode. SO FUN!

Microsoft released a report in which they describe the current work environment as the “infinite workday.” Meetings that start between 8 PM and midnight, constant interruptions, pings and texts well past business hours are all mentioned in this report. Dan shares his love of reading focus books and trying to organize his time, Nicole shares her strengths and weaknesses in this area. 

Dan counters this story with one talking about how people are using AI and programs to make it LOOK like they are working, but they actually are not working at all. We also dip our toe into working from home, is it effective and how things have changed since the pandemic.

And finally, getting stuck on a roller coaster is one of Nicole’s true nightmare scenarios. We discuss along with the reason Dan does not care for roller coasters (or thrill rides in general). This is the segment where you actually might learn something and for that we apologize.

First on the docket, a museum in Verona, Italy has a message for patrons and it is “respect the art.” This please comes after a couple sits on and breaks a “priceless” work of art. Of course Dan has to get his “how is this even art” rant in a few times but that aside, these people broke a piece of art and then just left. Can you imagine? We can and we discuss. It also leads to the revelation that the Louvre is currently closed because it is too busy, which Dan has some choice thoughts on. We also pepper in a short discussion about stores choosing/needing to lock up certain items. 

Second up, Dan found an article on Tips for Tipping that he actually agrees with and we have to take a moment to recognize what a monumental event THAT is. This article lays out some tipping etiquette and it is pretty spot on. Listen and see if you agree and if you follow the rules yourself.

Lastly, a new study was released by a group at Yale around life expectancy and the states that experience the longest (and shortest) life expectancies. Dan guesses and is pretty spot on for most of them. We give out “expert” opinions on they why behind the life spans.

We have talked a lot about AI and how it is taking over the world and last week a story came out about AI trying to “stay alive” in a variety of ways. It has been found to rewrite code, copy itself to external servers and in one instance, blackmail an engineer. It is hard to not feel like we are living in a Sci-Fi movie, but here we are. Also peppered in a virtual job interview that went viral because the person being interviewed did not feel like they looked very good that day so they were using a filter that made them look like breakfast. Oh what a world we are living in.

A terrifying story out of O’Hare. A DoorDash driver got lost and ended up on the tarmac and parked next to a plane. So many things to be worried about here, it is hard to know where to start. Although starting with SECURITY would be a great first step. Also who is ordering DoorDash from the airport?!

And finally a feel good story about some very smart parrots in Australia who have figured out how to open trash bins to forage for food and now they are using drinking fountains to wash all that food down. Smart birds who are just learning how to live in a modern world.

Kicking things off today - when does wearable tech (like smart watches and heart rate monitors) become a cause for stress and anxiety? Both Dan and Nicole share some personal stories about their tech and how it impacts them and of course there is always something in the news that speaks to how oversaturated with tech we all are.

Dan hates snakes! He talks about a story out of Missouri about a snake popping out of a hood and there is one thing in particular about the story that really has him steamed. Think you know what it is? Or can you guess? Nicole did not correctly identify it but maybe you can.

There is a bear cub being “raised” but people in a bear suit. It is adorable and terrifying and so many things could go wrong. Hear more about it!

And finally, a female news anchor went into LABOR during a morning newscast and finished her shift. Should she get a medal or a reprimand? We have some thoughts.

Maybe it is us but it seems there is a new term being used in the world almost every single week. This is true this week with the term “unbossing” which means something different to businesses than it does to workers. Basically workers no longer want to work in management roles, for a variety of reasons. Dan and Nicole both share personal stories that fall into this world.

Have you ever visited a restaurant or store that is located near a high school, particularly when that high school has a lunch break or when it ends for the day? There is a McDonald’s in Virginia that has a new 21 and over policy because of the behavior of the kids from a nearby school. Nicole and Dan discuss and talk about how scary kids can be.

And finally, road rage has taken a turn (pun intended) and you will never believe what happened when a woman got mad and lost her shit. Dan kicks things off by saying that he would like to be in charge of making the rules. This is not a new statement but what set him off this time? Qdoba! That is right, after an enraging experience at Qdoba, Dan has some new rules he would like to put in place. Think you know what they are? Only one way to find out!

Nicole’s battle with her TV/internet/phone carrier took an unexpected turn when it appeared her phone was blocked by the carrier. How did she find out? What happened? It is a story for the ages! We also find out that both her husband AND Dan think it is hilarious when she gets really mad.

Dan was in Duluth over the weekend and has some interesting things to say about the population there and had quite an experience involving Venmo.

What do you do when nature calls but your plane is descending? In one case that recently made the news, you take off your pants and poop with there on your seat. This actually happened on an inbound flight into Chicago’s Midway airport, on a Southwest flight. Choose your own seat, indeed.

And finally, a kid scratches a painting in a museum, and while Nicole wants to talk about who should pay and kids running wild, all Dan can talk about is how he could make art equal to this particular piece. Will he? Should he? Let us know what YOU think!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their inductees and there is always at least one where Nicole says to herself, “wait, aren’t they already IN the hall of fame??” and this year is no different. So Nicole and Dan go through the list of the new folks and share some thoughts on who they thought was already in, what made someone get in this time and just general thoughts on their music. Neither has actually been to the museum so it might be time for a SSP road trip!

Speaking of award shows, the Oscars were in the news this week with a new rule for academy voters. The new rule is that folks have to watch all the moves before voting. HOW WAS THIS NOT ALREADY A RULE?! The team chats about the “new” rule and the Oscars in general. 

And finally, the great Chicago liquor that is Malort announced a new item on Monday, hard candy! We talk about the brand, their marketing team and the experience that is Malort. We also reminisce about some times we had on the radio, eating things that we will never forget.

There was a space flight this past week that got a lot of attention and the podcast would be remiss not to give it attention as well. 5 famous ladies went up into space and got a lot of flak. Dan agrees with most of the flak being unwarranted BUT there was one big issue he brought to the table and that is the fact that the flight was called “Making Space for Women.” Listen in to hear his biggest issue with this.

There is something out there called “Flight Theory” and it is creating some havoc in the travel community. The idea is you can arrive 15 minutes before boarding and just breeze onto your flight. Well, you can imagine Dan and Nicole have some thoughts on that. They also share their travel timing and tips on TSA precheck.(the tip is you should have it)

A woman took to the internet to get feedback on her letting her kid eat snacks they had not yet paid for while grocery shopping and the internet had a LOT to say about it. And so do the podcasters! We chat about the idea of even doing this as well as some hidden “grossness” within the idea of it.

Speaking of gross, there is a new research team working on lab-grown chicken and it is GROSS. We share the story, and some images, of the meat and the process. It is not necessarily a new idea BUT this piece of chicken is the biggest one they have grown so far. Did I mention it looks (and sounds) gross??

Ever have a day when you realize you have your underwear on inside out?? Nicole has and it was the day this was recorded so THAT is how we kick things off on this episode. Where can we possibly go from there??

We can go into talking about a new “fad” that is sweeping the nation (but is it?). Hatchelorette Parties. You read that right. Think baby shower meets bachelorette party and then remove all the things you know about both. We discuss this new trend and dip our toes into baby showers of yesteryear. Dan also shares his “secret” to a long and happy marriage and the story involves a dishwasher. 

Daylight Saving time always seems to be in the news and today is no different. The US is looking to do away with it. What would that mean? Have they really thought it through? You know Nicole and Dan have not but they will discuss anyway! It leads in a discussion on military time and Celsius versus Fahrenheit. 

Ever left something in a car? Well Uber collects the lost and found stuff (which as I type that, seems odd. It is not like there is an office to drop all this stuff off at… is there??) Either way, they released a new list of weird stuff left in cars and I gotta say, some if it is really weird. Dan learns what the term LARPer means and literally cannot stop laughing.

Dan has been living with a false memory of Nicole and the air finally gets cleared up during the episode. How does this tie into the Crocodile Hunter’s adult son and his new underwear campaign? Bathroom Divorce is a new trend and honestly, this one I totally understand. The idea of each person having their own bathroom. Nicole and Dan both share their current bathroom situations and Dan tells us why he always brings his own toiletries to a hotel. Nicole will never look at the hotel ones the same way. Dan also shares the two things he NEEDS from a hotel, think you know what they are? I bet you cannot guess one of them!

NOT A JOKE, KFC has partnered with a toothpaste company to make TOOTHPASTE THAT TASTES LIKE CHICKEN. I could barf just typing that. April Fool’s inspired this but it is a real thing, You can also get a KFC toothbrush. So gross. 

And lastly, casual dining places are folding faster than you can say Hooters. Why? Dan and Nicole discuss the changes that have happened, their own experiences with some of the bankruptcy chains and Dan admits his Hooters past was mostly to make Nicole mad.

Speaking of travel, Spirit Airlines has announced they are redoing their passenger code of conduct and it seems to us that a lot of these things should just be common sense. There is one rule Dan is not so sure they have to enforce and it has to do with clothing covering a certain body part. I am sure you can figure out what it is.

A whole lot of celebs died the week before we recorded this episode (or more have died since) and we chat about those folks and the loss. There is one in particular, a "sports guy," whom Dan gives Nicole some grief over, and then they play a little People's Court to see how Nicole passes judgment on him.

Diddy has been IN THE NEWS. We chat a bit, on a lighthearted note, about Diddy and all his lube. Then things turn a bit more serious as obviously there are a lot of crimes and victims in this situation, and in others like it.

To bring some levity back to the show this week, we talk about Dan and his terrible taste in steak temperatures. It came up because of a recent excursion he took to a steak house. We chat all things red meat and cooking temps.
