She is highly skilled in audio post-production and mix engineering for film and television with numerous credits including BAFTA & Palme d’Or nominated films. Ashleigh has previously worked with the Pinewood Studios Creative Audio team and Avid Technology, she is currently working for Solid State Logic as Head of Educational Programmes and Services developing and implementing the SSL Certified Training Partner Program to provide schools with the tools they need to help students build critical skills, expand their networks, and gain a competitive edge in the job market.

Lisa Power: monitor engineer and leading RF coordinator in New Zealand

Lisa is a freelance sound engineer from Germany, now based in Auckland, New Zealand. She started doing sound in 2000 while trying to figure out what to do with her life after school. In 2003 she ditched her social work studies to pursue a career doing sound for live events and has never looked back. Doing monitors has been an early and lasting passion. Preparing the gear and programming a console to suit her workflow, figuring out what each musician wants and needs, and mixing it ties together all the awesome aspects in live events: tech, people, creativity, performance. She is a highly regarded RF coordinator across New Zealand, having done coordination for all major festivals and many large sport events. She tries teaching basic coordination to anyone in the industry and has held workshops. She also runs regular meetups open to all women and queer people in our wider industry, inviting all techs and crew across departments. She also initiated a chatgroup for women and queer people, it‘s a good place to ask tech questions, look for crew or rant.

She's mixed stages in Rock am Ring/Rock im Park, Funkhaus Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Vienna Konzerthaus, Meguro Persimmon Hall, among others. Lora is a prolific musician hailing from Whāingaroa/Raglan, and is currently based in Kirikiriroa. She has worked as an Audio Engineer for the past 20 years, and she currently works as a freelance Audio Engineer/Guitar Tech for local and international acts, while also working as the Head of the Audio Program at the School of Audio Engineering. While based in Melbourne, Lora toured and worked on large scale events alongside global figures such as; Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Attenborough, Nick Cave, Chaka Khan, Jane Goodall, and The Dalai Llama. Lora has also contributed to over 20 recorded works as a Studio Engineer, Producer and Musician. As a producer, she likes to think outside the box, taking influence from Producers such as Sylvia Massey and misusing different items and pieces of technology to get a unique sound. Lora has done significant work in the NZ music/equity space, establishing a social network safespace for women and gender diversity in the NZ Music Industry in 2016.

Brianna Cofield is an audio engineer and pianist from Long Island, New York. While attending Syracuse University, Brianna gained hands-on experience in record production and live sound engineering. After graduating, she began working in a studio as an assistant, and eventually moved on to live sound engineering full-time. Currently, Brianna works as a live sound engineer at Quantum Sound Systems, a sound company in Montauk. Through the company, she has set up stages and has done install work for places like The Surf Lodge, the Montauk Lighthouse, and other venues in the Hamptons. Brianna has worked as a studio engineer at The Bridge Studio, an A2 engineer at The Apollo Theater in Harlem and the Tilles Center theater, and has been the AV tech at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons for live streams. She now joins us as a new co-host of the SoundGirls Podcast!

Lenise Bent is one of the first women audio engineers & honed her skills on many iconic records including “Aja” by Steely Dan and “Breakfast in America” by Supertramp. She is the first woman engineer to receive a platinum album for Blondie’s “AutoAmerican” album which includes “The Tide is High” and the very first hit rap song with music, “Rapture”. Lenise is also a post-production audio professional, specializing in recording and editing foley sound effects for many films and animated series and has traveled the world for Dreamworks supervising the foreign dialogue recording and producing the vocals for such animated features as “Shrek”, “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron” and “Shrek 2”. She also archives and repairs audio, and instructs and consults for singer/songwriters. Lenise is a long-standing member of the Audio Engineering Society, the Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy, and a voting member of NARAS. She is also a proud member SoundGirls, Women’s Audio Mission (WAM), Women in Music, the prestigious Hollywood Sapphire Group, The Blues Foundation, IASA (International Association of Sound Archivists), and ARSC (Assoc. of Recorded Sound Collectors). Though primarily working in digital recording formats, Lenise recently produced and engineered an all-analog recording with blues/rock/Indy band Primal Kings, recording to 2” tape, mixing to 1⁄2” and cut to vinyl from tape, all analog and entirely out of the box. Tana Douglas is known as the first woman roadie and got her start working in Production in 1973 when Philippe Petit rigged a steel cable between the towers at the northern entrance to the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Without realizing it she had just done her first gig. This was followed by a meeting with a well-known Australian Tour manager Wane “Swampy” Jarvis, who piqued her interest in the production side of the Music Industry. This led to her first paying gig with a band called Fox, setting up and looking after their stage equipment known as the backline. After taking that job and relocating to Melbourne, an offer to work for a different band came along in the middle of 1974. This band was AC/DC. Throughout Tana’s four-decade career she has worked in backline, sound, lights, logistics, production, and tour management.

She was recently named a SheSaid.So ALT list 2020 Honorée, is a board member for Moving The Needle, an MPG Diversity Taskforce Representative, and an innovator on Keychange 2022 program. Suzanne Ciani is a five-time Grammy award-nominated composer, electronic music pioneer, and neo-classical recording artist who has released over 20 solo albums including "Seven Waves," and "The Velocity of Love," along with a landmark quad LP “LIVE Quadraphonic,” which restarted her Buchla modular performances. Her work has been featured in films, games, and countless commercials as well. She was inducted into the first class of Keyboard Magazine's Hall of Fame alongside other synth luminaries, including Bob Moog, Don Buchla, and Dave Smith, and received the Moog Innovation Award. Jazmín Giolito is an audio professional specializing in video games and interactive experiences. Zoe Thrall: Director of Operations at Hideout Recording Studios

Zoe Thrall is a music industry professional with decades of experience in recording studio management. Her career started at the famed Power Station Studios in New York City where she learned both sides of studio operations as both an assistant engineer and in studio management. There she met producer/musician/actor Little Steven Van Zandt who hired her to work for him as an engineer and as a musician in his band Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul. She later returned to Power Station to become their studio manager and eventually President of the company. Her career continued on to become manager of Hit Factory Studios in New York City, overseeing 9 studios and 75 employees. In 2005 the Palms Casino Resort courted her to Las Vegas to build and operate the Studio at the Palms where she worked for 15 years. She is now the Director of Studio Operations of The Hideout Recording Studios in Henderson, Nevada.

Greg Simon is a member of Sennheiser’s Technical Applications Engineering team and Heads training for the Americas region. Greg has a degree in Music Production and Engineering from Berklee College of Music. He has been designing audio and wireless microphone systems in the Pro Audio industry for over 15 years. Projects include full A/V system design and project management for large-scale clubs, recording studios, houses of worship, and corporate environments. Greg has also completed training in Sennheiser’s global RF expert program which specializes in wireless microphone technologies and applications.

Lotje Horvers is a tour manager from Amsterdam. She has been active in the music industry for 20 years. She started out booking local bands when she was a teenager, and since then has covered a great variety of jobs in the live music industry: stagehand, production runner, merch vendor, agent assistant, stage manager & backstage hospitality. But mostly she has been tour managing, traveling the world working with artists playing anywhere from squats to stadiums. In recent years she has worked with M83, Robyn, Royksopp, The Knife, Fever Ray, Susanne Sundfør, Mø and ionnalee.

She’s passionate about opening doors to live music careers for women and gender minorities. Last year she co-founded the non-profit Backstage Pass, aimed at improving diversity and inclusion in the live music industry in the Netherlands. Backstage Pass organizes career days at pop venues for teenage girls, where women technicians explain the variety of career options in live music. She also mentors several young aspiring tour managers and hosts online workshops on how to break into the industry.

Salim Akram: Monitor engineer for Billie Eilish and Finneas

Salim Akram is a live sound engineer specializing in mixing monitors. He currently works as the Monitor Engineer for seven-time Grammy Award-winning artist Billie Eilish and eight-time Grammy Award-winning producer and artist Finneas. In 2019, he was featured in FOH Magazine and was a Parnelli nominee for the Monitor Engineer of the Year.

After attending Art Institute of New England, Salim began to synthesize his technical skills in engineering with his life-long passion for playing music. He and his closest friends co-founded the band Bad Rabbits, where Salim would go on to not only tour with major artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Steve Aoki, Allen Stone, and Taking Back Sunday – but he would have the opportunity to work with producers Teddy Riley, Michael Elizondo, James Fauntleroy, et. al. in the studio. Bad Rabbits has won numerous Boston Music Awards, including Artist of the Year, perform as guests on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Arsenio Hall, and Craig Ferguson, and perform at huge festivals such as Vans Warped Tour, Reading and Leeds, and SXSW.

While Bad Rabbits was writing music and taking an interlude on touring, Salim dove head-first into regular house engineering roles with local venues owned and operated by Bowery/AEG and City Winery, while simultaneously expanding his freelancing repertoire to include contract work for corporate juggernauts such as Dell, Apple, and Google, as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Chanel, Puma, Sephora, and the Simmons Leadership Conference. However, when he was asked to build the touring monitor rig for Glassjaw, he realized it was just the catalyst he needed to get back on the road.

Salim was introduced to Ms. Eilish in 2018 and continues to work as her Monitor Engineer through today. When he isn’t on tour, he resides in Boston, Massachusetts, and enjoys photography, cooking, and traveling.

SHERRY KLEIN CAS – Re-Recording Mixer Sherry Klein is a Post Production Re-Recording Mixer for Television and Film. She is currently living in Los Angeles, Ca. working with Smart Post Sound. Some of her credits include New Amsterdam, Queen of the South, Burn Notice, Sons of Anarchy, and The Shield. Sherry started her career as a musician, her dream was always to study music and have a successful career in the music industry. She attended Webster College in St. Louis, Missouri studying classical music composition and then Jazz Arranging and Composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her early years were spent “on the other side of the glass” as a musician, but the realization of how recording could manipulate sound slowly took over her passions and she soon began exploring her fascination with all things audio. She left the east coast for Los Angeles and spent 10 years with Larrabee Studios as a Recording Engineer until 1983 when she moved into the field of Post Production Mixing. Throughout her career, she has worked with an array of outstanding talent in both music, television and film. Her passions for music and sound have only grown throughout the years and she enjoys mentoring and giving back to the industry whenever possible. Michelle Sabolchick Pettinato is a professional concert sound engineer who has worked for some of the most recognizable names in music for almost three decades. Starting with her first tour with the band Spin Doctors in 1992, Michelle has been touring the world as an independent engineer, mixing for a diverse slate of artists and musicians including Janet Jackson, Indigo Girls, Jewel, Gwen Stefani, Ke$ha, Mr. Big, Adam Lambert, Melissa Etheridge, Goo Goo Dolls, Styx, Elvis Costello and more. SoundGirls Living History Project - Dr. Rebecca Mercuri

The SoundGirls Living History project is a collection of interviews with audio industry veterans. The project seeks to highlight the careers and achievements of women and underrepresented groups in audio. Interviews are conducted by SoundGirls members, with guidance from experienced interviewers in the audio industry.

Interviews will be available publicly in our Living History Project and for educational use and research and through our social media, YouTube channel, and The SoundGirls Podcast.

The oral history interviews are typically unedited and will be archived in their original form.

Dr. Rebecca Mercuri's life and career have been an eclectic mix of music and technology, with Bachelor's degrees in Classical Guitar (University of the Arts), and Computer Science (Penn State), Masters degrees in Science (Drexel) and Engineering (UPenn), and a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Systems (UPenn). She also holds honorary alumna status from Harvard in recognition of her fellowship year at Radcliffe Institute. In the 1980s, following her undergraduate education, she became an Associate Member of Technical Staff at RCA's David Sarnoff Research Center. Projects there included the development of music software for a personal computer project and the design of the first computer-controlled interactive software and hardware for the RCA VideoDisc player. While in graduate school, during the 1990s, Rebecca was employed at AT&T Bell Laboratories where she pioneered the integration of a holophonic audio system into a collaborative and interactive virtual videoconferencing system. Later, at the University of Pennsylvania, her dissertation, "Electronic Vote Tabulation: Checks & Balances" received immediate attention, as it had been defended 11 days before the 2000 Bush v. Gore election. Dr. Mercuri continues to provide expert testimony on election controversies, and her recommendations about better ways to ensure accuracy, integrity, and believability in election results have been sought and adopted internationally. Chrissy has achieved a well-rounded understanding of the five key aspects of the AV industry (audio, video, control, networking, and project management) through her experience teaching AVIXA’s CTS and CTS-I ANSI certified certification programs. Sara achieved the Educator of the Year award in 2021 from AVIXA's InfoComm 2021 in Orlando, FL.

Robyn Raymond is the owner of Red Spade Records, a super boutique specialty record production firm. Joanna Fang is an Emmy award winning Foley artist and sound editor. An alumna of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Joanna fell in love with sound design and Foley during her studies at Tisch and after graduating with honors in 2014, she started apprenticing and performing with Foley artist Leslie Bloome at Alchemy Post Sound in Peekskill, NY. Seven years and hundreds of credits later, Joanna transitioned into game development and has since been hired by Sony Playstation where she co-leads their new Foley department and is their first in-house Foley Artist in over 15 years.

Through her Foley sounds, she has had the privilege of slinging webs as Spider-Man, fighting misogynists in Promising Young Woman, and even crashing a bus for Ira Glass on This American Life. Her Foley art spans across several media from traditional narrative films, documentaries, and television series to triple A games, virtual reality and experimental pieces. In 2016, she was recognized by the Television Academy as the first openly transgender woman of color to win a Primetime Emmy for her Foley and sound editorial work on A&E's Cartel Land.

Elyssa Kohen grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. She graduated from the prestigious Las Vegas Academy for Performing Arts before attending the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where she received her BFA in Theatre Design and Production-Sound Design. She quickly put her degree to use by going to work for the MUNY in St. Louis, starting as an intern in 2013 and returning as the Assistant Sound Designer in 2015. When the season ended, she collaborated as a Sound/Mixing Engineer with several organizations including the Alliance Theater, Merry-Go-Round Playhouse (now The REV), and Ogunquit Playhouse.

In late December of 2016, Elyssa began her touring career, joining Motown the Musical 2nd National Tour as Assistant Audio. Shortly thereafter she jumped onboard with the School of Rock 1st National Tour. In 2017/2018 she was fortunate to tour both nationally and internationally with the Rent 20th Anniversary Tour, traveling to China and Japan.

In the summer of 2019, she was chosen to be the Assistant Audio for Frozen the Broadway Musical 1st National Tour. The pandemic caused Frozen to be shut down in March of 2020 in Portland, Oregon and Elyssa found herself back in Las Vegas. After 15 months of inactivity behind a soundboard, she got the chance to mix shows again as she went to work for The Glimmerglass Festival in June of 2021.

As of August 2021, Elyssa is back to work on Frozen, the Broadway Musical.

Ebonie Smith is an award-winning music producer, audio engineer and singer-songwriter based in New York City. Ebonie is also the founder and president of Gender Amplified, Inc., an organization that celebrates and supports women and girls in music production and audio engineering. Ebonie received her first Grammy Certificate and RIAA-certified platinum plaque for work as an assistant engineer on Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording). Olga FitzRoy is a recording engineer and mixer. After a decade working her way up the ranks at AIR Studios, from tea-girl to mixing the music for the 2012 Olympics, she is now freelance, working on projects for Coldplay and mixing the music for The Crown. She was named Recording Engineer of the Year at the MPG awards 2016 and received an Ivors Academy Gold Badge Award in 2019. She was elected to the board of the UK Music Producers Guild (MPG) in 2019. After having her son, she founded the #SelfieLeave campaign, which aims to support freelance women when they have children, by campaigning for self-employed families to get shared parental leave. As a result of her lobbying, a bill was read in parliament and the government began a consultation on a change in the law. She was named no.11 in the BBC Woman’s Hour Powerlist 2018 and won the Women In Music Campaigner of the Year award in 2019. She ran for parliament for the Labour Party in 2019 and has spent much of the pandemic campaigning for better support for those affected by the crisis, particularly engineers, producers, and recording studios. As a volunteer for the charity Pregnant Then Screwed, she led their campaign against mothers who have previously taken maternity leave receiving reduced COVID-support from the government. The result of this work is currently awaiting judgment in the Court of Appeal. She lives in London with her husband and 5-year-old son.

With a background in music composition, engineering, and events production, Juno’s curiosity has led her to venture into new and advanced audiovisual technologies. With consistent experience in managing entertainment and creative projects, Juno can organize, budget, staff, coordinate, and deliver projects in a timely fashion.

Pioneering digital mixing in Live events made her engineering and system design skills to be in high demand. After moving to the U.S. in 2000, she produced, engineered, and coordinated events for clients like MJ Audio, WGBH, Harvard University, Mass concerts, and The Cambridge Multicultural art Center, among many others.

As a co-founder of Moana productions, she managed and produced commercial, industrial, and film projects, with an emphasis on live multi-cam, multi-track music concert production with clients like Univision, Tribeca film festival, Greenwich Village Entertainment, MTV, and Fuse. Since 2005 She worked in production coordination and sound engineering in venues like the Highline Ballroom, Webster Hall, and the Manhattan center.

She currently runs Juno Black Music, a consulting/integration practice. One of the highlights in her work in this area was managing the iconic One World Theatre refurbishing. She spends her spare time composing original music, recording, and managing multimedia projects. Petra Randewijk is an independent sound engineer from the Netherlands. She has been working in sound for over 20 years, mostly in live sound. Last year she toured in Europe, the UK and North America with Imogen Heap as FOH engineer and PM. When she is home she works at shows in Doornroosje in Nijmegen, and at some of the many Dutch festivals with awesome artists. Or for any other show that consists of good music, nice people, a technical challenge, or, even better, all three.

Recording has always been quite a passion project for Petra, which she does mostly at her own studio. After taking a week-long seminar with Sylvia Massy, she got inspired to make her recording sessions more adventurous which resulted in a lot of exciting recording sessions, and still more to come.

She is the first female engineer to receive a platinum album for Blondie’s “AutoAmerican” album which includes the very first hit rap song with music, “Rapture”. Lenise is also a post-production audio professional, specializing in recording and editing foley sound effects for many films and animated series and has traveled the world for Dreamworks supervising the foreign dialogue recording and producing the vocals for such animated features as “Shrek”, “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron” and “Shrek 2”. After a successful and award winning 40 year career as a Supervising Sound Editor with over 200 feature film credits, Vickie Sampson retired six years ago to devote her time and energy to directing. She continues to work on sound projects for developing filmmakers as her time permits.

She has directed 7 award-winning short films, over 15 commercials and PSAs. She has an Emmy, 4 Golden Reel Awards and has worked on Oscar winning films for sound. She was one of twelve women (out of 600) selected to the Directing Workshop for Women from AFI.

Los Angeles-based mastering engineer and vinyl cutter, Jett Galindo of The Bakery, has worked on albums spanning a wide array of genres and artists--Jamila Woods, the La La Land OST, Barbra Streisand, Weezer, to name a few. Graduating with summa cum laude honors from Berklee College of Music, Jett joined the famed Mastering Lab in 2013 as the sole right-hand woman to pioneer mastering engineer Doug Sax. She worked on various notable vinyl releases including Pink Floyd’s final album “Endless River”. Claire Murphy is a backline tech and tour manager. Prior to the pandemic she just finished up a support tour with P!nk in stadiums across Europe. Clair has worked most recently with Vance Joy, she has done backline and tour management for the likes of Tegan & Sara, Elle King, Ravonettes, Babes in Toyland, and the Dum Dum Girls to name a few.

Claire has worked with the Soundgirls to promote and encourage women as a SG mentor. She also runs a business providing storage to the music industry in London.

Outside of touring she enjoys living at the beach with her partner and 12 year old rescue dog. She’s also been known to compete in triathlons including Ironman's. Whilst on tour, she frequents coffee shops!

Hailing from Los Angeles, Karrie has spent the last 30 years as the monitor engineer for Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder. Karrie started out doing sound for punk bands in Los Angeles in 1986 under the tutelage of Dave Rat of Rat Sound, where she spent twenty years helping to establish the company. She was able to gain an immense amount of hands-on experience and technical knowledge at Rat, which eventually led to her becoming the monitor engineer for The Red Hot Chili Peppers from 1990-2000. She first met and started working with Pearl Jam who opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers on their 1991-1992 Blood Sugar Sex Magic Tour. She has worked with Sonic Youth, Fugazi, and Neil Young.
