We then pivot to the sharp, glitch-art commentary of St. Vincent, transition into the chaotic, stadium-sized rave energy of The KLF, and surge into the heavily distorted electro-grooves of Justice. We close out our runtime by letting The Prodigy detonate high-voltage punk-electronica straight through the motherboard. Episode 072: We are pulling back the curtain on the grand illusions of life this week, delivering a heavy dose of reality to all those polished, idealized dreams we hold onto. We begin with the shimmering, melancholic haze of Beach House, before facing the sobering resignation of Jim Lindberg. We then pivot to the gritty frustration of Middle Class Rut, transition into the poignant social commentary of Stevie Wonder, and drift into the deceptively serene, bittersweet piano balladry of Lou Reed. We close out our set by letting Crowded House remind us exactly why even our most beautiful dreams are eventually forced to reconcile with the stark, unvarnished truth. It’s a six-track exploration of disillusionment, the sobering light of day, and the messy reality of what happens when the fantasy fades.

We kick things off with Bryan Adams’ nostalgia-soaked anthem before diving headfirst into the industrial, apocalyptic crunch of Ministry. We then take a turn for the sultry with the iconic Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, pivot to the sharp, modern wit of Self Esteem, and drift into the haunting, electronic nostalgia of Boards of Canada. We close out the set by letting The Stooges raw-dog the airwaves with a track that reminds us exactly why 69 has always been a number worth getting dirty for. For the Ladies | feat. Bikini Kill, The SoapGirls, Cibo Matto + more

Wed, 06 May 2026 05:09:41 -0500

Episode 068: We’re finally handing the aux cord over to the women who actually know how to use it—no dudes, no filler, just pure energy. This episode, we’re tracing the lineage of noise from the riot grrrl foundations of Bikini Kill to the unapologetic, loud-as-hell provocations of The SoapGirls, stopping along the way for the viral punk energy of The Linda Lindas and the bratty, technical precision of VIAL. We even take a detour into the cinematic trip-hop weirdness of Cibo Matto before letting Mitski deliver a masterclass in controlled songwriting chaos. It’s a six-track deep dive into the distortion, grit, and melody that prove "playing like a girl" is a threat, not a descriptor.

No News is Good News | feat. Public Enemy, Bad Religion, Gorillaz + more

Wed, 22 Apr 2026 05:00:00 -0500

Episode 067: The 24-hour news cycle is spinning faster than a scratched 45, and this week on Six Picks Music Club, Geoff, Russ, and Dave are feeling the vertigo. We’re putting down the remote and picking up the needle to discuss how the media is failing us—turning information into infotainment and reality into a ratings game. From the "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality to the era of alternative facts, the guys look for the truth hidden between the headlines. The playlist is a front-page spread of sonic skepticism, kicking off with the legendary Gil Scott-Heron reminding us that the real movement happens in the streets, not on the screen. Hüsker Dü provides the frantic energy of a world obsessed with the broadcast, while Public Enemy delivers a scathing "letter" to the tabloids and Bad Religion offers battle-weary reflections from the front lines. Between the cynical satire of Gorillaz and the surreal parody of "Weird Al" Yankovic, it’s an episode for the skeptics, the truth-seekers, and anyone who’s ever wanted to throw their television out the window—just make sure you keep your speakers on.

On My Knees | feat. Madonna, Jeff Buckley, Collective Soul + more

Wed, 08 Apr 2026 05:00:00 -0500

Episode 066: Easter has come and gone, leaving nothing but half-eaten chocolate bunnies and some lingering questions about the Great Beyond. In this episode, Geoff, Russ, and Dave dive into the world of Faith—but don’t worry, they aren't passing a collection plate. Whether it’s a search for meaning or just a really catchy chorus about a higher power, the guys navigate the fine line between the divine and the distorted. While nibbling on leftover candy, the trio breaks down a tracklist that spans the jangly heights of The Byrds, the fuzzy intensity of The Thermals, and the ethereal beauty of Jeff Buckley, alongside 90s anthems from Collective Soul, pop provocations by Madonna, and a healthy dose of punk-rock skepticism from NOFX. It’s a Sunday morning session that feels much more like a Saturday night at the pub.

Hangovers | feat. The Who, ZZ Top, Otis Redding + more

Wed, 25 Mar 2026 05:00:00 -0500

Episode 065: The morning-after haze has officially settled over Six Picks Music Club, and we are definitely feeling the weight of last night’s decisions. We’re attempting to hair-of-the-dog our way back to consciousness, starting with a loud, caffeinated jolt from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes to shake off the brain fog. Once the initial tremors subside, we’re reaching for the dark-shades cool of ZZ Top and letting the smooth, soul-soothing medicine of Otis Redding coat our frayed nerves like a greasy diner breakfast. To keep the nausea at bay, we’ve got a pint of Jaya The Cat for those reggae-punk electrolytes, followed by a massive, stadium-sized headache courtesy of The Who. We’re finally closing our eyes and leaning into the dreamy, fuzz-drenched lethargy of Dum Dum Girls until the room stops spinning. It’s a dry-mouthed, shaky-handed tribute to the regrets we’d probably repeat next weekend—just keep the volume low and the lights off.

Doin’ Drugs | feat. The Beatles, Amy Winehouse, Highly Suspect, 311 + more

Wed, 11 Mar 2026 05:00:00 -0500

Episode 064: This week on Six Picks Music Club, we’re skipping the rehab and going straight for the stash with a setlist that’ll leave you absolutely cooked. We’re kicking things off with a gateway hit from The Uninvited before the mood gets thick and smoky with a heavy dose of Amy Winehouse. To keep the heart rate from flatlining, we’re passing the 311 for those herbal, sun-drenched vibrations, then mainline some gritty, high-octane energy from Highly Suspect. Just as the walls start to melt, we’re micro-dosing a little psych-rock magic with The Beatles and finally crashing out into the beautifully jagged, pill-pressed blues of Placebo. It’s a pure, uncut trip through our favorite musical dependencies—guaranteed to give you a contact high without the comedown.

Favorites Songs of 2025 | feat. Wet Leg, Laura Jane Grace, Die Spitz + more

Wed, 25 Feb 2026 05:00:00 -0600

Episode 063: Look, we know it’s already 2026. But at Six Picks, we’ve never been much for those rushed December rankings, so we’re sticking to the tradition of letting the music actually breathe before we judge it. Join Geoff, Russ, and Dave as they look back at the 2025 tracks that haven’t left their heads yet, featuring a deep dive into the raw energy of Die Spitz, the bizarro folk-metal collision of AVVT PTTN, and the ever-reliable Laura Jane Grace. The conversation also meanders through the recent output of Big Thief, Wet Leg, and Nerdlinger, before the guys shift gears to figure out exactly what is going on with a strange new breed of veterinarian working up in Canada. This is the definitive 2025 post-mortem you didn't know you needed, delivered with the usual chaos and a blatant disregard for the calendar.

Threesomes | feat. Beck, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Joyce Manor + more

Wed, 11 Feb 2026 05:00:00 -0600

Episode 062: We’re kicking off Season Three with a "triple-shot" treat that’s bound to leave you satisfied! This week, the guys are exploring the tightest chemistry in music by diving deep into ménage à trois anthems and the hardest-working three-piece bands in the business. We’re digging into the sheets of the tracklist to see who’s really getting down together, featuring enough members to keep everyone happy from Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Joyce Manor, Rick James, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beck, and The Lonely Island. Between the climaxes, the guys take a heavy detour into the "Objectivist" bedroom to look into the unpublished books of Ayn Rand, proving that the Fountainhead isn’t the only thing getting a rise out of us this week. Grab a partner (or two) and dig in—it’s a season opener you won't want to finish alone.

Americana | feat. Tyler Childers, Steve Earle, The Highwomen, Steve Earle + more

Wed, 19 Nov 2025 05:00:00 -0600

Episode 056: "What in the Wide World of Sports is Americana?" Join Geoff, Russ, and Dave for a special episode of the Six Picks Music Club as they welcome a guest Jeff to the conversation about the most deliciously undefinable of genres. Americana is like that perfect roadside diner: you know the vibe when you walk in, even if you can't quite articulate the decor. It has the twang of classic country, the soul of folk music, and a lyrical sincerity that just feels like home, even if "home" means a broken-down Ford pickup on a backroad somewhere. The guys attempt to pin down this elusive sound by spinning a killer playlist that jumps from the legendary Texas troubadour Willis Alan Ramsey to the raw, hard-edged storytelling of Tyler Childers. They also dive into the powerhouse harmonies of The Highwomen, look at a possible evolution of the genre from Halsey, and explore the enduring grit of Steve Earle and the lush, layered folk of Fleet Foxes. But be warned: the conversation takes a hard left turn, veering off the musical highway to tackle the pressing matter of escaped cats and, well, prolapsed anuses. It’s a true Americana experience—unpredictable, a little messy, and entirely heartfelt. Tune in for the music, stay for the feline emergency room stories!

Episode 052: It’s almost fall, and that means football. In this episode, Geoff, Russ, and Dave dig into the pigskin with six songs that hit like a linebacker and dance like a wide receiver in the end zone. They blend beats with blitzes with a full lineup including Queen, whose stadium-sized swagger sets the tone for a season of high drama and big plays. The Spencer Davis Group brings the fun from the stands, all pep and groove, while Atom and His Package throws a prophetic flag on the field with a sharp critique of the sport’s darker undercurrents. The guys go deep into the world of professional theme songs with the Ying Yang Twins, whose track feels tailor-made for a rowdy dome crowd, and Joan Jett, whose anthem screams prime-time energy. Then AFI takes it further, peeling back the layers of football’s cultural weight with a sarcastic and snotty look. Somewhere between the touchdowns and the tackles, they also learn about clotted cream and its mysterious unclotting powers. And because no work episode would be complete without a totally random tangent, the guys are also diving into the wild world of kid's shoe sizes - because why not turn workplace boredom into musical entertainment? Whether you're grinding 9-to-5 or living that side hustle life, this episode is your workplace soundtrack, complete with workplace wisdom and absolutely zero actual productivity.
