Preparing With Prayer

We often say, at EE, that witnessing without prayer is presumption. The truth is, we cannot effectively share Jesus with others unless we begin with prayer. Prayer invites the Holy Spirit to go with us and to lead the conversation. He's the One who gives us the words to say. He's the One who speaks to and ultimately changes hearts. Without Him, we go alone. So as we talk about preparing to share the Gospel this week, I want you to know that preparation begins with prayer. The Bible says in first John that "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." Today is the Day of Salvation

Divine Appointments

The Holy Spirit is softening and drawing hearts to Himself each and every day. And we can be a part of His work. One of the very best ways to join the Holy Spirit is by praying for what we like to call "Divine Appointments." I can't tell you how many times He has led me a person who was waiting for someone to share the Gospel with them. In Arizona, I met a twenty-one-year-old named Raymond who was waiting at a bus stop. He told me that he was in a recovery program that talked about God but hadn't shared much about Him. Raymond was sitting there wondering how he could find out more when we walked up. With tears in his eyes, he accepted Christ after hearing the Gospel and said, "Thank you! This is going to change my life." Fulfilling the Great Commission

Did you know that there are Christians all around the world that have been working tirelessly to fulfill Jesus' last command? He gave us the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you..." And there are many that have taken this very seriously. In fact, there are leaders that are saying the Gospel will be finished going forth and the Great Commission will be fulfilled as early as 2033. A few are saying it could be even earlier than that! And if this is true, the question we must ask ourselves is what role will we play? Let me encourage you: don't wait to start sharing your faith. Give Us Your Eyes

Do you want to really be stretched in your faith? Ask God to give you His eyes for other people. And He'll answer that prayer and begin to break your heart for what breaks His. And there is nothing dearer to Christ's heart than people. He created each of us uniquely and for a purpose! Once you start looking, you'll begin to see this for yourself and value others highly. You'll desire for them to have the peace, love, and joy that can only be found in Christ; and then you'll make the effort to start spiritual conversations and look for opportunities to share the Gospel with them. Know the Season

How does a farmer know to harvest? Well, it boils down to a farmer looking at their field and seeing that the crop is ripe! You know, the Bible uses the very same analogy for a spiritual harvest of souls ready to accept the free gift of eternal life. Jesus told the disciples, "I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest." It would be detrimental to a farm if the workers missed out on collecting the crop. There may be bankruptcy or even people who starve from it. But for the us, it would be even more harmful. Not to God-because He can make the rocks cry out His glory. But how unfortunate it would be for us to miss out on the blessing of being a part of the harvest. We have the purpose and the privilege to be Jesus' hands and feet here on earth, and that includes bringing the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Giving What We Are Given

The Bible teaches us that everything we possess has come to us because God gave it to us. First Corinthians 4:7 says, "What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?" Our responsibility with our possessions is to use them as God's stewards - using them, that is, as He would Himself. In Acts chapter two, we see a picture of the early church selling their property and possessions to make sure that any need was met. They had open hands and hearts with all that they owned. This is an expression of Christian fellowship in the church: sharing what we possess. When it comes to worshipping God, our heart matters. Our worship in a community of believers will only be as beneficial as our attitudes are sincere. Scripture gives us numerous "attitude checkpoints" by which we can examine our hearts to make certain that we are ready for worship. John wrote in John 4 "a time [...]has now come when true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks." And if the Spirit is in us, He will convict us and grow us as we worship God through Him. Our humble cry should be, "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Our humble, joyful, attentive attitudes in worship matter to God. Jesus was hungry. He had been in the wilderness for forty days without eating a single thing. At the height of His physical weakness, the enemy crept close to Him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." That was the first of three temptations Jesus fought against that day. But He answered confidently with the Scripture, "It is written: 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.'" Jesus was victorious by knowing the Word of God and hiding it in His heart. So let me encourage you today-make a habit in your life to memorize Scripture and then pray them. Two Changed Lives

"What impact could I possibly make?" Have you ever felt that way before? Well, Isabella certainly did. But she stepped outside her comfort zone and attended an evangelism discipleship training in Arizona. She went out into the community with a team and spoke to a man named Chris. They asked him two great questions: if he knew for sure he'd go to Heaven one day, and if he stood before God and God asked why He should let Chris into Heaven, what would he say? Well, Chris's answer was like so many others - he was trusting in his own good works to get him into Heaven, and he hoped it would be enough. Isabella was able to share that our works will never be enough, but placing our faith in Jesus alone to save us is all we need. I'm happy to tell you that Chris put his faith in Jesus that day! When it comes to sharing your faith, do you let fear hold you back? Now, I know that when I first started telling others about Jesus, fear of judgment often held me back. But as God grew me as a witness, and He helped me lay to rest my fears. The same happened to Noah from India. He came to know Jesus at ten years old when his Sunday School teacher told Noah about the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. But it wasn't until he was an adult that he learned how to share the Gospel at one of our evangelism discipleship trainings. He told us that he trembled with trepidation, but after being trained, he felt inspired and equipped. And ever since, Noah has been sharing his faith wherever he goes and has seen many lives transformed by Jesus in India. The Gospel is powerful and changes hearts and lives. Evangelism Training

Here's an example of intentional witnessing. Nou and two other ladies from her church attended an evangelism training event. This was Nou's text the day after the training. "Our flight was cancelled so that God could lead us to talk to the manager of the hotel and share the Gospel with him. He prayed to receive Christ as his Lord and Savior." And then a few months later, another text from Nou said, "I witnessed to sixteen of my nieces and nephews at my family reunion-ranging from age from nine to twenty-nine. Ten of them prayed to receive Christ." And then there was yet another text: "We attended a soccer tournament and got to witness to ten people. Two people prayed to receive Christ." That's what happens when someone learns how to share their faith. They see opportunities that are all around them and can't help but share their faith! "Trusting in what Jesus has done for me has brought me peace, hope and a future I can feel joyful about." Michele penned these words in her testimony on what's my story dot org. Before she had eternal life, Michele dealt with a lot of guilt and shame that caused her great anxiety and depression. But someone invited her to church where she heard the Gospel; and that day, her life was changed forever as she accepted Jesus as her Savior. And you know what? Today, we're coming to the final day of learning an easy-to-remember, hard-to-forget Gospel presentation. We've been using the five fingers of our hand as our learning aid. Picture the smallest finger on your hand - it's going to represent faith. Grace, Man, God and Christ, Faith. Faith, in a Biblical sense, is the means whereby people make a personal response to the Gospel. Saving faith isn't simply head knowledge about Jesus. Many know about Jesus, but have never experienced saving faith. Saving faith is also not just "temporary faith," trusting in Jesus for health, safety, finances. Saving faith is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life, and it's necessary for salvation. In the book of Acts, the apostle Paul was asked, "What must I do to be saved?" His answer was this: "Believe - have faith - in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved..." Today, we are going to learn an easy-to-remember Gospel presentation. Our pattern to share the Gospel is based on five main words - Grace, Man, God, Christ, and Faith and we are pairing each one with a finger of our hand as a learning aid. Today we'll focus on the fourth word - picture your ring finger and think of the Bridegroom because today's word is CHRIST. Jesus Christ is both God and Man. John's Gospel opens with this emphasis, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God...And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." While Jesus had many great accomplishments, there's no doubt about His most important: He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin...and rose from the dead to prove He has purchased a place in Heaven for us. This week, we're learning an easy-to-remember Gospel presentation. And we're using the five fingers of our hand as a learning aid. Today we'll focus on Word #3 - God, and picture your middle finger - the longest, greatest finger representing the greatest being in all the universe which we know to be God. Of the many aspects of God's character, we'll emphasize two: First, God is MERCIFUL and doesn't want to punish us. The Bible tells us that "God is love." But the same Bible that teaches us that He is love, also teach us that He is JUST and He cannot tolerate our sin. In Exodus 34:7, God says, "By no means will I clear the guilty." This presents a problem. Notice that I did not say God has a problem. The problem is ours. For God's solution to our problem, we'll turn our attention tomorrow to Word #4 - CHRIST. This week we're learning an easy to remember Gospel presentation. We're using the five fingers of our hand to remember five Gospel words - one each day. Yesterday was GRACE - and we used our thumb pointing toward Heaven to remember that Heaven is free...not earned or deserved. Today, we're using our second finger, our pointer finger for the second word - MAN - meaning the entire human race. The Bible clearly states that man is a sinner and cannot save himself. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" are the words of Romans 3:23. Sin is anything that falls short of God's perfect standard. An action, a word, a thought, an attitude... ...and because we are sinners, we cannot save ourselves. But the Gospel is Good News! There is a way to be saved, but it's not man's way...it's God's way. Persecution in Lebanon

As we conclude this week talking about the church globally and how we’re called to go to the nations, I wanted to share a testimony with you from a challenging part of the world. Made up of the former Soviet Union and most of the Middle East, Central Asia is a region where persecution happens almost every day to Christ-followers. And yet, God is moving mightily in these countries. For instance, in a small village in Lebanon, a family heard the Gospel from a team of Christians who knocked on their door. The husband, the wife, and all the children gave their hearts to Christ that day. And the villagers were not pleased and began persecuting them heavily. However, God used these same Christians who led the family to Christ to share with the villagers also, and their minds were changed. In His famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven." You know, persecution can be a difficult topic to talk about; and yet if we are followers of Christ, Jesus Himself said that we will face it. But it will not be in vain. Christ promises that when we share in His sufferings by facing insults and false accusations that there is a reward. When I read this, I am encouraged that firstly, I am not in this alone—Jesus has experienced the very same rejection. A Taste of Heaven

The auditorium was packed. As I stopped and looked around, I heard dozens of languages being spoken at the same time. We all settled into our seats as our time together was called to order. This was Evangelism Explosion's third Congress of Nations, and eighty-three different countries were represented. During that morning, we sang "How Great is Our God" (which is a powerful song in and of itself), but this time the worship leader asked for everyone to sing in their own language. Words cannot describe the beauty of that moment—where Arabic was sung alongside Czech and Fijian. And you know, this is exactly what heaven is going to be like—because every tribe, tongue, and nation will be there. Have you ever heard this famous Biblical passage before? You know, it's called the Great Commission, and it's Christ's final command to us before He returned to Heaven. Unfortunately, it can be something that Christians ignore for a number of reasons. One of them is that we get involved in all kinds of seemingly good things that keep us all too busy. Jim Collins wrote a widely used book in the business world that opens with this statement, “Good is the enemy of great.” And so many times we get involved in all kinds of good things; and yet, they are not the great thing that we could be doing in seeing men and women come to Jesus. You Can Be Certain

It also says to be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect. It is a real problem for us if no one is good, yet we are expected to be perfect. We simply cannot do it! The Truth

He didn’t say you will know “a truth” or “your truth” but He said, you will know “the truth.” Today, people will say that we can’t know anything for certain but, again, the Bible tells us in 1 John 5:13, that “These things have I written that you may know that you have eternal life." Now this is something you can count on to be true: Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and He alone can save you. Saving faith is not temporary faith, either. It is fully trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life. It's not just believing that Jesus could be a way to get into Heaven or that He was a good man, it is a life fully surrendered and trusting Him. So have you put your faith in Jesus alone? Good Isn’t Good Enough

Are you a good person? You know, most people would probably say they are pretty good. Not perfect all the time, but not so bad, either. But by what standard? The Bible actually gives us the standard. Jesus says in Matthew 5:48, "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Now, that creates a problem because the Bible also says 'there is no one who does good. No not one." So if our good isn't good enough, how can we earn our way into Heaven? We can't! Our best efforts could never get us close, but God, rich in mercy made a way for us! While we could never deserve it, Jesus came to earth and took our punishment upon Himself. Now all we have to do is accept God's gift of grace! So, stop trying to work your way into Heaven. As we talk about preparing ourselves to share the Gospel this week, we would be missing an opportunity if we didn't talk about one of the most important tools—the Word of God. In Hebrews, the author writes that "the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." When we do training in evangelism at EE, we always make it a point to memorize Scripture. Because it is powerful! It works in the hearts of those we share it with. So let me encourage you today—start hiding God's Word in your heart and begin to share it with others. Start with John 3:16 or Acts 16:31, which says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved." You’ll see God take it and use it to change lives. Homebuilders follow a pattern. It’s called a blueprint. Chefs follow a pattern. It’s called a recipe. Drivers follow a pattern. It’s called a map. Patterns provide design and order and structure. Even the apostle Paul used a pattern in his spiritual teaching. “Follow the pattern of sound teaching you have heard from me” is the instruction that he gave to one of his students, Timothy. When it comes to explaining the Gospel to another person, a pattern is very important and helps us know what to say. The Gospel is not just our testimony or us talking about our church. The Gospel is a Biblical explanation as to why Jesus, and what He did on the cross, is so very important. We at EE have a pattern that teaches the key components of the Gospel, and I would encourage you to learn it, so you can share it and pass it on. Preparing With Prayer

We often say, at EE, that witnessing without prayer is presumption. The truth is, we cannot effectively share Jesus with others unless we begin with prayer. Prayer invites the Holy Spirit to go with us and to lead the conversation. He’s the One who gives us the words to say. He’s the One who speaks to and ultimately changes hearts. Without Him, we go alone. So as we talk about preparing to share the Gospel this week, I want you to know that preparation begins with prayer. The Bible says in first John that "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." We were gathered together on a Thursday night for evangelism training. This particular night, Dr. D. James Kennedy caught the attention of a young man on the front row and said, “Don’t move—not even a muscle! You have a poisonous snake under you chair. Don’t look! He’s looking right at your leg. When he looks away, I’ll tell you. Be ready to jump out of that chair. Steady...ready...JUMP!” That young man nearly jumped through the roof! The point that Dr. Kennedy made was simple. If that young man really believed him, then his belief would have certainly, logically, radically turned to action. True belief always does. And the truth we believe is that there is a hurting world in need of a Savior. Jesus came and died to forgive us our sins if only we’ll believe. But many don't know because they haven't heard. The Gospel Must Be Spoken

In a recent study done by Barna Research, half of Generation Z Christians that they surveyed said that they believe “letting your actions speak rather than using words to explain your faith” is evangelism. Fifty percent! Now today, we’re going to tackle two important things that we need to know regarding words and actions when it comes to evangelism. First, you cannot share the Gospel with someone by some form of osmosis. Words must be shared. Second, you can’t share the Gospel by a simple act of kindness alone. While that act is wonderful, it points no one to Christ. The Bible is clear that the Gospel must be spoken with love, with grace, with winsomeness. The Gospel is Power

Remember, it is the Gospel itself, not our clever answers or power of persuasion that is the “power of God unto salvation.” When you’re sharing the Gospel, and you encounter an objection, the goal is to deal with the objection as simply and quickly as possible and then continue with the Gospel. Two keys to remember are first, to research their question and return with an answer: If you don’t know the answer to the question, tell them, “That’s a great question. Can I do some research and get back to you on that?” And then, continue with the Gospel before making an appointment for a future visit. If you’re able to respond to the objection on the spot, well, do so quickly and again get back into sharing the Gospel. Do You Know For Sure? Tract

If you’ve seen someone leave a Gospel tract in a restaurant or hand one to a stranger walking by, have you ever thought, “I wonder if they’ll read it?” I’d like to suggest that our first and best response should be to ask the Holy Spirit to compel the person to read it as He did with Philip. Philip was sitting on a park bench talking on his phone when someone walked by and handed him a Gospel tract. The Holy Spirit prompted Philip to open it. So he did, and he read the whole thing. Romans 3:23 jumped off the page, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Philip was convicted, and he repented. Now, it just so happened that he read EE’s Do You Know For Sure? tract. Philip has since ordered them and started a tract ministry. Should we still use tracts for evangelism? As I walked toward the meeting hall at a conference, I saw one of the security guards sitting and reading our “Do You Know For Sure” tract. I went over and asked him, “Do you understand what you’re reading?” And he said, “How can I unless someone explains it to me?” Immediately, I thought of the story of the Ethiopian eunuch when he met Philip on the road to Gaza. And just like the Bible story, this security guard listened carefully to the Gospel and gave his heart to Jesus Christ right there. And recently, we held a workshop to teach Christians how to share their faith, which they went out and did that very day! A few days later, a man called to tell us that he had made a decision to put his trust in Jesus through a tract that a team left with him. Tracts can be a great tool for us use to share our faith. Some people criticize tract evangelism, saying that it’s cold, impersonal, or even outdated. But the truth is, it works. Dale and George worshipped at the same church. George took it home with him, but instead of sharing it with a friend or a family member, he read it intently. It struck him like a lightning bolt; “I’m not saved!” He read it to his wife, and they knelt and made professions of faith in Christ. You know, it’s unthinkable. It’s February 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. You leave a Gospel tract with a young gas station attendant you come across while you’re filling your tank. He takes the tract, shoves you, gives you an earful; and while you’re stammering for words, he walks away. Now, if you’re someone who likes to hand out Gospel tracts, you’ve probably never had an experience quite like that, but I’ll bet you’ve still wondered if the people you give these tracts to actually read them or they toss them. Hey, we all have. In fact, some people will argue that Gospel tracts simply don’t work. But let’s get back to the young gas station attendant. Pile Up The Stones

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Psalm 36:5 tells us, “Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.” And it’s so true—God is faithful. And I love telling other people about how faithful He’s been to me. Now, it reminds me of the passage in Joshua 4, where the Israelites cross over the Jordan River. When God parted the waters, Joshua commanded one man from each one of the twelve tribes to pick up a stone from the bottom of the river. And on the other side, they piled up these stones up as a monument to God’s faithfulness in preparing a way for them through the Jordan. As forgetful people, we need to do the same. We need to inscribe on our hearts the acts of faithfulness that God has done in our lives and boldly share them with others. And you know what? God will use them to open conversation. Make the Contrast

What have you seen God do in your life? Now, the truth is, we all have hundreds of what we like to call “God stories.” These are times you’ve experienced God moving in your life, like a change that He’s brought about, an answered prayer, a restored relationship, or the moment you put your saving faith in Jesus. Now when sharing one of your “God stories” with another person, make the contrast for them. Start with what life was like before the change or before God stepped in. And then, share what God did. End your testimony with something about the confidence that you have concerning Heaven and eternal life. An example would be something like, “The greatest thing of all of this is that I know for sure that if I died today, I’m going to go to Heaven.” This leads very naturally to asking them questions about their own spiritual life and sharing the Gospel with them! God may have you sharing with a Divine Appointment—a person that He has drawn to you to hear your story for a purpose. It could be the very same struggles or hurts that you’ve faced they’re facing now. It could be the very things God has redeemed in your life they’re dealing with in their own life. Can you think of a time when you put your foot in your mouth? I mean, everyone can recall a moment they wanted to blend in with the wall behind them because of something they said. We're all human—it happens! But we don't want that to happen when we share the Gospel. So today, I'd like to share an icebreaker that may be the easiest way to start a spiritual conversation! So one of the easiest ways to start is by bringing up something you've done recently at church. Sharing with somebody how much you love your church and asking them whether or not they go to church is really simple. And it’s an easy follow-up then to say, "Church is important to me because that's where I learned about how I can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Can I tell you about how that’s changed my life?" Now, you’re going be surprised by how many times you will hear "yes!" People genuinely want to know what’s important to us. A lot of us have fears when it comes to sharing our faith. For many, it’s the thought of saying the wrong thing. If we stumble over our words or something doesn't come out exactly the way we want it, we think that God won't use it. Well, not at all! The Bible shows us time and time again that God can use anyone, even someone who stutters, like Moses, or a long-winded preacher, like Paul! And one of the best ways to break the ice into a spiritual conversation is to simply ask. Asking someone if they've given much thought to spiritual matters, or if they're sure they're going to Heaven one day might be bold, but it gives the other person a chance to really consider their heart condition. Be prayerful about witnessing and trust the Lord to give you the words to speak. He will be faithful to do it! Death, Where Is Your Sting?

One of the hardest things that we can ever face in life is a close encounter with death. Whether it is ourself or the loss of a loved one, these are life-changing and difficult times. But God can use these very moments to draw us or others to Himself. This is exactly what happened in Barry's life. In college, he met a girl that he admired very much and always wished to meet. Well one day, she was killed in a car accident. Barry was crushed and went to the school's chapel to pray. In that moment, he knew there was something missing in his life but didn't know what it was. Then soon after, he heard the good news of the Gospel, and he put His trust in Christ. Now, he knows for certain that he has eternal life. And that’s changed everything. On a Scale from 1 to 10

Let me ask you a question...on a scale from one to ten, how fulfilling would you say your life is? What makes it that number? And would having more of a relationship with God make that number go up or down? These are some really impactful questions we can use when talking with our family and friends about God. They’re opportunities for them to share about their lives and their thoughts on having a relationship with Christ. I have to tell you...I've asked these questions a lot. And most of the time, people share with me that they think having more of a relationship with God would actually make their life more fulfilled. And I get to tell them that Jesus Himself said that in John 10:10, "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." The evidence is in my very own life! That certainly happened to me. The Old Rugged Cross

“In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, a wondrous beauty I see, for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, to pardon and sanctify me.” What a beautiful way George Bennard described the cross of Christ in this famous hymn. This, this is the Good News of the Gospel! In the horrible, painful image of our crucified Savior, there is grace and mercy that we don’t deserve—complete forgiveness for all of our wrongs. When we place our trust in Jesus, He takes our sins on Himself and gives us His spotless, perfect life. When God sees us, He sees righteousness. O what a Savior, that while we were yet sinners, Jesus died so that we might be forgiven. His Body Broken for Us

During the very first Easter Week, Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples the night before He was crucified. On this Passover night, He sat with His disciples and gave them a clear picture of what He was about to do through their last meal together. He “took bread, and gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to [His disciples], saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant of my blood, which is poured out for you.’” We take communion as Christians in remembrance of what Jesus has done through His death and resurrection. The bread represents His body broken, and the wine depicts His blood spilled for the forgiveness of sins. He did it out of love for us! The Garden of Gethsemane

As we continue walking through Easter together, today I want to look ahead to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. In the Gospels, we see Jesus pray through the night asking God to take the cup of what was to happen from Him. If you or I stood in His shoes—facing the wrath of Almighty God for the sins of the world—we probably would have refused it. But even though Jesus asked His Father, His will was set. He was committed to the cross. But it wasn’t easy for Jesus. He felt such sorrow and agony that He told James and John, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” Jesus knew He would not only die but take the judgment, anger, wrath, and separation from God that we deserved. But He did it willingly. And He did it for us. He died so that all who put their trust in Him alone would be blameless before Almighty God. Jesus Fulfilled the Passover

When Jesus came to Jerusalem that first Easter week, He didn’t just come to celebrate the Passover…He came to fulfill it! The very first Passover occurred when Moses was trying to free the Israelite slaves from Egypt. Pharaoh had seen God’s might and will through nine plagues that had come upon his nation. But Pharaoh, after making false promises, would go back on his word; and God would warn him again. The tenth plague killed every firstborn son except for the ones that had the blood of a lamb without blemish on their door frame. And that blood was the substitute for their sins. And for hundreds of years before, the blood of a spotless lamb was the only temporary substitution for sins. But Jesus…He came to shed the perfect, final, atoning blood on the cross. The Messiah’s Triumphant Entry

What a meaningful week we’ve just started! And walking through Easter with your family, friends, and even strangers can be a wonderful way to share the Gospel with them. Because truly, the Good News of the Gospel happened that very first Easter week and started with Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey. At first glance, that may not seem like much…but truly, this was an amazing and powerful act. Jesus’ entry on a donkey claimed His rightful place as their Messiah—the One who came to save His people from their sins. Every Jew there would have known Zechariah’s prophecy of the King and the Messiah coming—triumphant and victorious!—on a donkey colt. And that’s why they shouted “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” King Jesus came to be the sacrifice for sinful humans. Strengthened to Serve

Psalm 73 says it well, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Through the deep gratitude that we have for our Savior, we use the strength He gives us to serve others. And it’s a delight to His heart when we do. Jesus said in Matthew twenty-five that if we help the less fortunate…”whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” As children of God, our hearts should be aligned with God’s heart. And God tells us God is patiently waiting so as many as would call on His name would have a chance to do so. Today is the day we should serve others and tell them the Greatest News: that Jesus loves them and has died on the cross to take on the penalty for their sins. Strengthened Against Evil

I don’t know about you; but sometimes it seems like we could use some armor. Between the temperature of our culture and the crazy things that we see on the news, some protection would be welcome! Ephesians 6 tells us that we should “put on the whole armor of God, that [we] may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but…against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” God protects us even against things that our eyes cannot see. He has already defeated the enemy through Jesus’ death and resurrection! We celebrate because Jesus is the victor. He’s crushed the head of the enemy. But while we are here on earth sharing the Good News of what He has done with others, we need to put on the armor of God and stand strong. And we’d love to help! Strengthened by Grace

Paul gives a blessing to Timothy in 2nd Timothy 2:1 that he would “be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” Now, I’d like to pray that same blessing over you today! As you go about your daily tasks, whether good or bad experiences come your way, I pray you’ll be strengthened and held by the grace that is in Christ. You know, grace is one of the utmost attributes of love. It means we receive something that we don’t deserve! And one of the grandest works of God’s grace displayed is that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. When we place our faith in Him, we’re strengthened not in our own might but in His. Ask God today that He would not only strengthen you but also give you the opportunity to share the Good News of His grace with others. How do we live with strength? Do you know that when you become a child of God through placing your faith in Jesus alone, you receive the strength of Almighty God? We see a picture of this in one of my favorite Psalms: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” He is our bulwark—or fortress, in other words—that never fails. And when we place our worries and anxieties in His strong hands, He holds us and gives us peace. Paul tells us in Romans 4 that for Abraham, one of the great fathers of our faith, “no unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith…” And this is what happens when we rely on God—we grow strong.
