Paul Janeway is the gospel tinged lead singer of the southern Gothic soul funk band St. Paul & The Broken Bones, stops in for an extended chat about the band's epic fourth album The Alien Coast! It's a fun look into a dark psychedelic direction that sees the band stretching to new, incredible dynamics.

For the second half of the show we talk with Andrew O'Brien from Live For Live Music about the hard work it takes keeping a music site going in the midst of a world wide music shut down and how happy he is that, once again, the music he lives for is playing!

When you factor those skills in with his ability to effortlessly leapfrog from genre to genre Keller Williams is the perfect act to play at any festival. Whether with his funk band More Than A Little, his bluegrass partnership with recent Rex-A-Vision guests Larry & Jenny Keel, his willingness to work with anyone named Andy to occasionally fronting the entirety of the String Cheese Incident Keller Williams is a Swiss Army knife of awesome! On a personal note, Keller is one of the original reasons I fell into the Jam scene and my love for his quirky personality and positive energy knows no bounds! Today we chat with Jessica Kinnick-Wesley from Stable Studios, a recording and concert/festival/multi-purpose venue located just outside of Spencer, Indiana. I've seen every one from Bill Kreutzmann of the Grateful Dead and George Porter Jr from The Meters there to garage bands from the surrounding counties. The one consistent thing was the quality of the music and the friendliness of the folks who run the place! They have been helping produce music events, often focused on giving new bands their first experiences recording and performing on real stages, as well as giving the community a place to gather for a host of other fun and zany events, like the Beerlympics! Jessica and her family were kind to me in my early years and showed me a lot of heart when unforeseen circumstances conspired to make one of their events a rain soaked nightmare. This isn't just a cautionary tale of the pitfalls of festival promotion though...it's a celebration of what can happen when you operate a business with love as the central mandate! Enjoy!

Welcome back to Rex-A-Vision, everybody's 2nd favorite podcast with identity issues. Either we're an interview program or a game show...but either way we're gonna talk to some really cool folks like rock stars, graphic artists, hotel front desk workers who were mad legit...pretty much everyone has a story to tell.

My name is Rex Thomson and I'm a...well...I'm a professional weirdo. Under the catch all name Rex-A-Vision I work as a photographer and videographer I cover the American Music Festival scene from coast to coast, having some fairly idiotic but awesome adventures along the way. Basically I go to festivals, take pictures of bands, film and share them play songs, interview them and the fine folks who make the shows and events happen and the awesome folks who make the up the jam/funk/bluegrass festival scene work. I also do poster designs and logos for bands on the side, make little documentaries and babble on social media. In my headiest moment I think of myself as an artiste with an e and that little inflection thingee...at my worst I just view it as being a media whore.

Anyway, this podcast will feature chats with these awesome folks modeled after a game I play when I am driving from gig to gig. I call it...CROSS COUNTRY QUIZ! As an excuse to bug my literally thousands of friends I think up a few weird questions and call people randomly from my contact list and ask them these random questions and catch up with them as I go. Thie time out we have a pairn of musicians who also teach the art of music. We start out with kids music camp instructress Angela Wynn who shares the joy of running Lala's Sing-A-Long's fun programs to teach lil ones rhythm and basic music skills. Then, on the opposite end of the teaching spectrum we have a legitimate music legend, New Orleans drumming icon Johnny Vidacovich! The illustrious Mr. V has played every type of music with literally every musician on the planet, has a new album out as part of the Nolatet and is the rhythmic center for the weekly Maple Leaf Bar tradition known as "The Trio" among his many, MANY other projects. When I first started covering concerts and music festivals about a decade ago I noticed something weird....wherever I would go in the country I would see some of the same faces in the crowd. I know all about traveling to see bands but when you see the same person in Maryland, Florida, Washington State and California you start to wonder what makes them do it. So I did what I do....I struck up a conversation. Now, ten years later I count hundreds of these loonies as my friends and I plan on sharing them and their passions and stories with you! We're gonna start with Taco Olmstead, editor of the webzine The Jamwich, which focuses on the jam & festival scene and Cheri Barnhart, a Michigan music maven who makes the world a brighter place! I chat with two of my absolute favorite Illinosians....Cody Diekoff (AKA the wryly inspired Chicago Farmer) and Wavy Dave Burlinghame from Cornmeal and like twenty other bands. Chicago Farmer is one of my all time favorite festival discoveries and Wavy Dave and his Cornmeal buddies were amazingly helpful to me when I was starting out in the photo/media whoring business. Finally we talk to Suwannee's live in festival promoter and all around music guru Paul Levine about his history and how he puts together line ups and festival schedules. When he finally makes it home he finds himself living inside America's premiere outdoor music venue, The Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park, where he serves as house photo/video guy. Having survived a ridiculous amount of near fatal illnesses and accidents he has gained a wisdom and positive perspective that informs everything he does. On his podcast, Rex-A-Vision, he works to show the world and the wonderful people in it through his eyes.
