<itunes:summary>You know that feeling the morning after—when the high of achievement wears off and you’re left wondering why it never feels like enough? That’s the perfection hangover.

We’re a community of recovering perfectionists who’ve realized that the pursuit of flawless is a rigged game. The goalposts always move. The to-do list never ends. And somewhere along the way, we forgot that we’re human beings, not human doings.

Perfection Hangover isn’t about lowering your standards or abandoning your ambitions. It’s about redirecting all that energy you’ve been pouring into impossible standards toward something that actually matters: building a life you don’t need to escape from.

We tackle the messy middle ground between ”crushing it” and burnout. Between ambition and anxiety. Between growth and grace. This is for the high-achievers, the overthinkers, the chronic self-improvers who are ready to stop optimizing and start living.

No toxic positivity. No quick fixes. Just honest conversations about what it takes to achieve without destroying yourself in the process.
Melissa shares personal stories, practical tips, and heartfelt encouragement for women juggling the complexities of life, from parenting and relationships to career and self-discovery. Whether you’re battling self-doubt, recovering from trauma, or seeking authentic transformation, Perfection Hangover provides a safe space to surrender perfection and embrace the messy beauty of growth.

Tune in to discover how to reclaim your peace, embrace your God-given purpose, and live a life free from the weight of impossible expectations. Perfect for women of all ages ready to transform their lives, one imperfect step at a time.</itunes:summary>

As high-capacity women, we learn early on to weaponize our drive. We channel that “too muchness” into our careers, our businesses, and our to-do lists. We become the Engine—the one who keeps everyone else’s world turning without dropping a single ball.

On paper, you are crushing it. But when the laptop closes and the performance mask comes off, what is left?

In this episode, we are pulling back the curtain on the silent epidemic facing high-achieving women: the structural exhaustion of the Perfection Hangover. We’re diving deep into the exact moment we trade our authentic power for corporate validation, and the heavy tax our families pay for our burnout.

If you are tired of bringing your "A-Game" to an inbox that will never be empty, and handing the "leftovers" of your time, patience, and energy to your kids and yourself... this conversation is your permission slip to stop performing.

Inside this episode, we discuss:

The Validation Loop: Why it’s easier to chase "claps" from a company that would replace you tomorrow than it is to sit in the quiet spaces of your own home.

The "Ghost Mom" Syndrome: How working from home allows us to be physically present but emotionally a thousand miles away from our kids.

The Energy Audit: How to spot the "energy thieves" in your social circle who require you to defend your values instead of being loved for them.

The 5-Minute Pivot: A tactical, zero-friction strategy to shed the "Work Mask" before you walk through your front door.

Grab a hot drink, lock the bathroom door if you have to, and let’s talk about how to stop giving your prime rib to the world and your scraps to the people who actually matter.

<itunes:summary>How I went from “one step from fired” to promoted in six months—and why it almost cost me everything that mattered.
In this episode of Perfection Hangover, I share the real story of how I went from a performance improvement plan at work to a promotion in just six months—and the brutal price I paid for that quick success.
I’ll take you behind the scenes of my divorce, selling the house I thought I’d keep forever, a failed move into sales, and the moment I was told I had 90 days to “get it together” or lose my job. Then I’ll tell you how I turned things around, got promoted, and quietly burned myself out trying to be the fixer for everyone.
If you’ve ever looked like you were winning on paper while your nervous system, family, and purpose were quietly on fire, this one’s for you.</itunes:summary>

The Cost of Being "So Strong"

You know that moment when someone calls you "so strong"… and instead of feeling proud, you feel a little bit sick? Like, "If you knew what it costs me to hold all of this together, you'd stop complimenting me." If that landed somewhere real for you, this episode is yours.

Because here's the truth nobody talks about: for high-capacity women, strength can become its own kind of trap. We get praised for holding it together, so we hold it tighter. We get called capable, so we take on more. And somewhere along the way, the version of us that everyone admires starts to feel like a performance — exhausting, isolating, and completely unsustainable.

This episode is about naming what that actually costs. Not to shame the strength — but to get honest about when it stops being a gift and starts being a cage.

In this episode:

Why being "the strong one" is one of the least-examined forms of perfectionism

The specific emotional labor that high-capacity women carry — and why it stays invisible

How midlife burnout often looks like competence from the outside

What it means to surrender the identity of strength without losing yourself

The difference between being grounded in your capacity and being enslaved to it

A note from Melissa:
I recorded this one because I needed it. I spent years wearing "strong" like a badge — and underneath it, I was running on empty and completely unseen. If you've ever felt like the compliment "you're so strong" was actually the loneliest thing someone could say to you, you're not broken. You're just finally paying attention.

This is the work. Not falling apart — but getting honest about what it's costing you to hold it all together, and choosing something different.

If this episode resonated, share it with the strong woman in your life who looks like she has it all together — because she probably needs to hear this too. And if you're ready to go deeper, visit perfectionhangover.com to learn more about the work Melissa does with high-capacity women who are done performing and ready to rebuild.

In this episode, I’m sharing some personal reflections on navigating high-conflict situations, especially within a blended family. When unresolved emotions continue to surface, it doesn’t just affect the adults… it affects the kids too.

This isn’t about placing blame or calling anyone out. It’s about protecting peace, setting healthy boundaries, and recognizing the emotional weight children can carry when conflict lingers.

What if the life you grew up in doesn’t have to be the life you end up living?
In this episode, I’m sharing a deeply personal story about growing up in a large blended family shaped by divorce, remarriage, instability, and survival mode — and how seven siblings raised in the same environment ended up with very different outcomes.
This is not an episode about blaming parents or trauma dumping. It’s about choice.
I talk openly about:
Growing up in a blended family with multiple divorces

How family patterns, codependency, and instability get passed down

Watching siblings take different paths — some breaking the cycle, others repeating it

My own journey through divorce, unhealthy relationships, and learning to set boundaries

Starting a career as a bank teller making $7.93/hour with no college degree

How consistency, faith, and uncomfortable choices led to a six-figure career

Why healing looks different for everyone — and why that’s okay

This episode is for women who:
Feel stuck or behind in life

Are afraid they’re repeating generational patterns

Are navigating divorce, single motherhood, or starting over

Struggle with codependency or people-pleasing

Want proof that circumstances don’t define their future

At any point in your story, you can decide to stop surviving and start choosing differently.
Your past doesn’t define you — your next decision does.
If you’re ready to break generational cycles, heal from family patterns, and believe that change is still possible for you, this episode is for you.

In this episode of Perfection Hangover, I’m sharing the raw truth about the moment my life completely fell apart—the breaking point I didn’t see coming, and the painful patterns I kept repeating without even realizing it.

⚠️ CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains discussions of childhood physical abuse, sexual assault of a minor, domestic violence, substance abuse, suicidal ideation, and a suicide attempt. Please prioritize your mental health and listen when you feel emotionally prepared.

I open up about the crisis that pushed me into my first marriage, how my attempt to end my life became the catalyst for a relationship built on survival, and how divorce sent me into a season of chaos I pretended was freedom. From a wild six week rule that caused lots of dating the wrong men to marrying a man who cheated on me, I was chasing the dream of being saved… but I didn’t realize they couldn't save me.

If you’ve ever rushed into a relationship hoping it would fix the pain you didn’t want to face…
If you’ve ever felt empty, unworthy, or desperate for someone to choose you…
If you’ve ever hit rock bottom and wondered how you’d rebuild your life…

This episode is for you.

We’re talking about trauma patterns, codependency, survival mode, and the moment God revealed the real wound beneath it all. This was rock bottom for me—and the beginning of true healing.

Inside this episode:

How crisis led me into marriage before I was ready

Why childhood wounds often shape our adult relationships

The link between validation-seeking and self-worth

Divorce, chaos, and trying to numb pain with “freedom”

Loving someone who cheats and what it forces you to confront

How rock bottom became the catalyst for transformation

Learning to choose yourself when you never felt like enough

If you’re starting over, rebuilding, or trying to break lifelong patterns, you’re not alone. This is where we stop pretending, surrender the perfection, and finally start healing from the inside out.

We're a community of recovering perfectionists who've realized that the pursuit of flawless is a rigged game. The goalposts always move. The to-do list never ends. And somewhere along the way, we forgot that we're human beings, not human doings.

Perfection Hangover isn't about lowering your standards or abandoning your ambitions. It's about redirecting all that energy you've been pouring into impossible standards toward something that actually matters: building a life you don't need to escape from.

We tackle the messy middle ground between "crushing it" and burnout. Between ambition and anxiety. Between growth and grace. This is for the high-achievers, the overthinkers, the chronic self-improvers who are ready to stop optimizing and start living.
