What happens when two guys from tough backgrounds grow up, fail at relationships, raise adult children, and finally go to therapy? You get The Unfiltered Mental Health Podcast. Hosted by two mid-forties comedians, John Armstrong and Chris Paugh, this show is a raw, hilarious, and deeply honest look at childhood trauma, coping mechanisms, and the madness of middle-aged mental health. This week, Chris Paugh and John Armstrong dive deep into the exhausting reality of navigating Complex PTSD (CPTSD). We discuss why researching the effects of your own trauma can feel like you're re-breaking bones so they can heal correctly, and how to find healthy distractions when your brain desperately needs a break from new information.Plus, we tackle the ultimate dating nightmare: realizing you are repeating history and making the exact same relationship mistakes as your parents. We discuss setting new boundaries based on your history—slowly, painfully, and just a little bit at a time. Grab your coffee (or your coping mechanism of choice) and let's get into it.

Ever look at your dating history and realize you don’t have a type, you just have a favorite flavor of mismatched triggers and validation loops? This week, Chris and John dive headfirst into the exhausting, chaotic loop of relationship cycles and why our brains keep dragging us back to specific kinds of people. We’re breaking down the science of why stable people feel "boring" and why high-drama red flags feel like undeniable chemistry. Look, we are way too old to still be learning these basic life lessons, but here we are. It’s time to stop blaming our exes, look in the mirror, and finally take responsibility for our part in these cycles. From trauma bonding to the classic anxious-avoidant trap, we look at why we keep trying to "fix" ourselves through other people who are just as broken. It’s an unfiltered, hilariously honest look at why we torture ourselves in the name of love—and how to finally snap out of it.

In this weeks episode we discuss having different sides to yourself that come out around the different people that make up the supporting cast of your life and when these different versions can become an issue. You're one person with family, one with friends, your father side, the person you are romantically, at work or alone. For me the goal is to be the best version all the time. We accivently stumbled on the theory of self unififcation in this discussion and made some revelations for ourselves in real time while we recording.

When you get to a point when all of your different sides are too compartmentalized you start to run into all kinds of problems. I think this can be where imposter syndrome comes into the mix. All of these sides can be authentic but when they contradict each other is when you have some work to do. Does it make you a phoney to have multiple sides or is it sometihng deeper? Authenticty is key but when you hold authentic views of yourself that contradict each other which one is the aunthentic?

We don't answer all of these questions. We are not psychologyt experts. We're just two comedians trying to be better men. Join us on this mentla health journey as we ask these questions and do our best to become the best versions of ourselves all the time.
