Pain is complex. So are the people who experience it and those who work with it.

The Pain Geeks Podcast is a monthly show hosted by Laura Rathbone and Christine Petrides.

We are two physiotherapists who met at a pain course in Amsterdam and never quite stopped discussing ideas about practice, science and what it means to be human.

Each month we reflect on the evidence, experience and discussions held within our Pain Geeks community. We take a 'thinking out loud' approach to bring you un-edited and real thoughts about what the science actually means, what philosophy has to say about it, and what any of it looks like in a real clinical room with a real person in pain.

Pain Geeks is a journal club for modern clinicians, drawing on pain science, philosophy, rehabilitation and the humanities. The free community gives you access to readings and resources. The Super Geeks membership takes you deeper: live journal club and book club discussions, a video library of recorded sessions and expert interviews, case study support, and workshops to develop your clinical thinking. All within a global community of curious and welcoming clinicians who take pain seriously.

About us

Laura Rathbone is a specialist pain physiotherapist based in Amsterdam, working at OLVG PijnPoli with people living with complex chronic pain. She trains healthcare professionals worldwide to integrate ACT into their practice, holds a deep interest in the philosophy of pain, and is the host of Philosophers Chatting with Clinicians. Her practice is grounded in compassion, social justice, and inclusion. Find her at www.laurarathbone.com and @laura.painspecialist on Instagram.

Christine Petrides is a Canadian physiotherapist and pain coach based in Cyprus, using ACT, mindfulness, and psychologically-informed care to help people untangle the experience of persistent pain. As the community architect behind Pain Geeks, she builds the spaces where clinicians from around the world feel less alone in this work. Find her at www.thoughtfulphysio.com and @thoughtfulphysio on Instagram.
