For this year's WonderCon show I decided to bring not only my dear friend and director of Demonetize, Alex Watson, but a few of our cast members as well! We were thrilled to have Matty Cardarople and Janine Hogan join us for this year's episode. 

Our film Demonetize is about to have it's World Premiere at Panic Fest in Kansas City on April 12th, and we thought it would be great to showcase a little more of the film.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Sean over the past year as he is one of the stars of our latest film, "Demonetize"! I have always been so intrigued by Sean's backstory of a professional boxer turned actor and invited him to join me for the live show to tell that story.

On January 1, 2024 the beloved Steamboat Willie became public domain, and Steven and Amy knew exactly what they were going to do when the clock struck midnight, turn it into a horror film! I was shocked at just how fast this was announced after the property became public, but Steve and Amy already had a plan in the works! After watching the movie this past week, I can say firsthand, it paid off. 

I talked with Steven and Amy about how they managed to turn the film around so quickly, finding the balance between being true to the Willie character while also making him a killing maniac, bringing Amy's character in the film to life, the hidden Disney homages, favorite scenes to film, and so much more!

SHORTS is celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year, and prior to SHORTS presenting the Oscar nominated short film screenings, there was no way for the general public to view the nominated short films. Since the series was launched, it has become a massive hit, selling out theaters across the country before the nominees are even announced. 

On top of celebrating 20 years of SHORTS, I also had Carter on the show to talk about an issue at hand as two of the nominated filmmakers are currently not allowed to travel to the US for the ceremony due to the fact that they are from Iran. Hossein Molayemi and Shirin Sohani, the filmmakers behind "In the Shadow of the Cypress" have struggled to obtain Visas from the State Department. 

I talked with Carter about how SHORTS came about, the demand around the world for the program, the impact short films have on the viewing communities, and how all of us can try and help make it possible for Hossein and Shirin from "In the Shadow of the Cypress" to attend the Oscars and celebrate their incredible achievement.

Loïc's animated short film "YUCK!" is nominated in this years Academy Awards. This is such a sweet film following a group of kids on vacation seeing all of the adults around them showing affection and kissing. Of course kissing is gross to kids, so they all squirm and of course exclaim, "YUCK!".

I talked with Peter Paul about how he got his start in animation, losing a graphic design job at an engineering & oil company and stumbling into animation from there. Finding his first animation job as an inbetween artist on Space Jam, working on Clerks: The Animated Series and having no idea who Kevin Smith was, working on Mission Hill, finding his next job on The Tigger Movie, staring to work on movies and shows with Bento Box, such as the Bob's Burgers Movie and Krapopolis, and so much more!

Nick's new comedy special "Wolf Pup" is out now! I absolutely loved this special and can't wait for all of you to see it as well. His new film, "Chronicles of a Wandering Saint" opens in theaters in New York this Friday, June 28th, and Los Angeles, and other cities July 5th. I was so intrigued by the story and the trailer to the film (see below) was so captivating that I had to learn more about this film and more about Tomas ever growing career in film making. "Chronicles of a Wandering Saint" initially premiered at SXSW last year, winning the Adam Yauch Hornbolower Awards, as well as earning itself 3 Film Independent Spirit Awards Nominations! 

I talked with Tomas about growing up in Argentina and moving around the world, his early film influences, studying politics, the art of filmmaking, moving to Los Angeles to attend AFI (American Film Institute), creating the story of "Chronicles of a Wandering Saint", and so much more.

It's crazy that I have been a fan of Alex Pardee's work for over 20 years now. I first came across Alex's work for the cover art for the band The Used on their album "In Love and Death". Pablo's animated feature length film, "Robot Dreams" was nominated for Best Animated film earlier this year at the 96th Academy Awards and will hit theaters Friday, May 31, 2024, after being picked up for American distribution by NEON. I loved this film when I watched it ahead of the Oscars and re-watching it to prepare to talk to Pablo brought that same joy. 

I talked with Pablo about growing up in Spain and finding filmmaking and a love for film, making the move to animation where all of his past films have been live action films, what inspires him about telling a story through animation, staying true to the fans of the "Robot Dreams" graphic novel, getting his Oscar nomination, how Robot Dreams was created, and so much more.

Brad's newest film "ATLAS", starring Jennifer Lopez, Simu Liu, and Sterling K. Brown hits Netflix this Friday, May 24th. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and was thrilled to have Brad join me on the show to talk about it. You may also be familiar with some of Brad's other incredible blockbuster films such as "San Andreas", "Rampage", and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island". 

I initially discovered This Means Podcast through Instagram, and quickly became a fan of the show. Many of you know my love for the Looney Tunes and animation, and "This Means Podcast" has become my go-to place for everything Looney Tunes and Warner Brothers animation. 

Daina and I first crossed paths a few years ago through the Sundance Film Festival with her film, "Run Rabbit Run". My Sundance 2023 coverage was limited given my own filming schedule, but Daina was somebody I had really wanted to talk to about this film and I am so glad we were finally able to make this happen. The day we recorded this the new Elizabeth Moss led Hulu show "The Veil" premiered their first two episodes which Daina directed!

On the episode we talked about how Daina got her start, acting on the hit Austrailan sketch show "Full Frontal", getting back to directing, working with comedy heroes like Greg Daniels and Steve Carrell on "Space Force", getting her Emmy nomination for "The Handmaid's Tale", directing for TV vs. directing for film, working with Sarah Snook and Lily LaTorre on "Run Rabbit Run", how the film came together, and so much more!

I was so thrilled to finally get Joshua on the show. Danny is a unique guest to the show as he's not only an incredible Broadway performing musician, but he's also my cousin. Now, I may not completely understand the genealogical math behind it, but he's either my third cousin, or my second cousin once removed. If you understand it, feel free to explain it me, but know I probably still won't get it. Danny and had never met each other until a few years ago, and much to our family's chagrin, this was a crime that needed to be rectified. We finally met in the most cliche, Hollywood way possible, on the Warner Brothers lot at the Eastwood Scoring Stage. 

I talked to Danny about growing up playing the drums and learning his technique, learning the dynamics of playing in a band, putting in the work to prepare for the future, getting his first Broadway show, playing in studio sessions for movies, playing in the "In the Heights" orchestra, softball with Lin-Manuel Miranda, touring with "Aladdin", becoming a conductor on Broadway, and so much more.

Andrew's film Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year and was one of my favorite films. I had only recently become familiar with Andrew's character Onyx but absolutely had to know more. I have been following Luke on social media for several years and have been a huge fan of his art. When I knew I was doing a live show at WonderCon, Luke was one of the first people I thought of and I was so excited to have him join me on the show.  

On the episode I talked with Luke about living in the UK, finding his artistic influence, growing up surrounded by animators and cartoonists, his band Pop Noir, working for MAD Magazine, KROQ designs, working with Tenacious D, Sad Chewie and so much more!

This episode was recorded over Thanksgiving Weekend 2021 as Comic-Con International returned for their first in-person event since the pandemic began. This year was extra special to me since we were not only doing a live show again, but we were also debuting the trailer for "Bundy Manor", the horror film I spent the past year producing. 

Since we had the entire cast of Bundy Manor in town for the panel and trailer debut, I invited my good friend, Writer/Director Alex Watson and Actress Emily Perry to join me on the podcast!

Alex was previously on the podcast years ago and I was so excited to have him back on the show to talk about the film we've been working on and what inspires him as a filmmaker and took him down the horror path. This was my first time meeting Emily in person after working with her for months on the film. Emily has such an intriguing, fun story, and a very unique collection she told us about on the show.

Hugo and Tevo's film "Bestia" is nominated for Best Animated Short Film in the 94th Oscars. I first watched "Bestia" at the Sundance Film Festival this year and was absolutely blown away by it. I knew immediately that it would be nominated for an Oscar and it was no surprise when the nominations were announced that "Bestia" was among them. 

Hugo and Tevo discussed the process of getting "Bestia" off the ground, the immense research that went into creating the character and story, the production design (which is incredible), filming during the pandemic, and so much more. 

It was a great time talking with Hugo and Tevo over Zoom. There were a few technical issues, but they worked themselves out as the episode rolled on. "Bestia" is a film that will stick with me forever. I can't wait to see what is next for them and wish them the best at the Oscar's this Sunday.

As many of you may know, WonderCon 2020 was supposed to be this weekend down in Anaheim, but due to the current lockdowns from COVID-19, the event has been postponed. Kerry and her team at the blog immediately jumped into action and compiled a list of all of the artists and vendors from WonderCon and how you can still shop and support them. With so many of these conventions being cancelled, this is the primary means of income for these artists and vendors and we wanted to help spread the word of how you can still support them. As you may have noticed my Oscar coverage was cut short this year and there hasn't been a new episode since. Unfortunately as my Oscar coverage was under way, I ended up getting sick and had to cancel the remaining interviews. This led to canceling the remainder of February episodes as well. By the time I was ready to get back into the swing of things, we were locked down. 

On this episode I talked about the past two crazy months, the wild ride of losing hearing in my left ear for almost a month, accidentally hanging up on an Oscar nominee while in a drugged up state, getting through quarantine, Simpsons binging, and more. 

I hope that all of you are staying safe and healthy. Please stay home if you don't have to go out, and if you do have to go out, make sure to practice social distancing. Wash your hands, don't touch your face, and support local businesses. THANK YOU, I can't say it enough, but THANK YOU to all of the people on the front lines of this. This week I have four-time Oscar nominee Marshall Curry and Siqi Song! Marshall was on the show last year for his documentary short "A Night at the Garden" that was nominated for an Oscar and it was great to have him back on the show. While this is Siqi Song's first Oscar nomination, she was also part of the art department for the Oscar nominated animated film "Missing Link". 

It was great to talk with Marshall about the new venture into Live Action Shorts instead of the Documentaries that he's best known for, and hear about how his film "The Neighbors Window" came together. Siqi's film "Sister" was her final student film project that tells such a unique story of the One Child Law in China. She used an incredible form of stop motion animation using yarn to build all of her characters.

This episode is Part 1 of the coverage featuring Daria Kashcheeva from "Daughter", Rosana Sullivan & Kathryn Hendrickson from "Kitbull", & Everett Downing Jr. from "Hair Love".  All three films are part of my favorite of categories, the Animated Shorts. 

This first group of filmmakers had such great stories about how their films came to be. Rosana and Kathryn both have a long history in animation. Rosana was one of the Producers on Toy Story 4, and they have both worked on films like The Incredibles, Finding Dory and The Good Dinosaur. Everett Downing Jr. is another animation juggernaut animating films like WALL-E, Up, Brave, Ratatouille, and Ice Age. Which brings us to Daria Kashcheeva. Daria's film is only the second short film she's made. It was her student film final, and it's absolutely breathtaking. I have never seen anything like "Daughter". Daria literally created parts of her animation style to make this film. It's only a matter of time before she joins the ranks of the other three animation titans. 

It was so much fun talking to the four of them! Next week I will have two more episodes as part of my Oscar coverage. Our annual Christmas and New Year episodes were unfortunately not able to be recorded this year. A lot of changes have happend over the past few years and this year we sadly couldn't put it together. But that doesn't mean I don't have plenty to talk about. 

At the end of November I spent the weekend in Anahiem at DesignerCon 2019. This was our first time visiting DesignerCon and it quickly became one of our favorite conventions and will be one that we will definitely return to. Make sure to visit our Instagram for all of the pictures and coverage from the convention. 

During the episode I cover my time at DesignerCon, as well as talk about my plans during the holiday break as my wife and I stayed at home in Los Angeles for the holidays, new projects slated for 2020, as well as the upcoming hiatus. It feels funny to announce a hiatus when I have kind of been on one not having an episode in a month, but I wanted to make sure that all of you understood the break I'm talking to recharge and prep for the podcast and new productions in the new year. 

The hiatus is planned to end at the end of January when I will return with new episodes going into the Oscars and the Sundance Film Festival. Stay tuned for those announcements.

Samba is best known for his current work on NBC's new show "Sunnyside", as well as the newly released video game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. I had never met Samba going into this episode, but I was really enjoying his work on "Sunnyside" and invited him on the show. It was such a delight getting to know Samba and hearing his incredible story. 

On the episode we talked about growing up in Ehtiopia, moving to the Netherlands and starting his comedy career, being a corespondant on the Dutch version The Daily Show, moving to Los Angeles and the struggles he faced as an immigrant, trying to build his career while getting his green card, palm reading, the "Sunnyside" audition process, and so much more.

There was so many incredible locations on this year's 31 Days of Horror. Some of my favorites this year were: The Queen Mary, Rockhaven Sanitarium, The Oman House, The Harris House, and Brand Park, just to name a few. LA Comic Con was also an incredible time this year. There were so many great panels with the cast of The Office, Elijah Wood's Spectrevision, Rhett and Link, and a special Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Panel. There was also an awesome Jay and Silent Bob & Clerks pop up that Kevin Smith and Jay Mewes stopped by in costume to chat and take pictures. It was such a great time with them! 

The Jay and Silent Bob Reboot love continued through the weekend as well as I had the opportunity to attend Kevin Smith and Jay Mewes handprint ceremony at the Chinese Theater. This was the first ceremony I've had the opportunity to attend and I was thrilled that it was for two people that have had a huge influence on me.

Normally I wouldn't be a fan of re-releasing an old episode. But with some of the new changes going on with the podcast, going forward I am only going to be keeping the most recent 50 episodes available for download. This chat with Pete was a great talk and he gave some great advice in the episode that I didn't want new listeners to miss out on. I clearly had no idea what I was doing on this episode and the podcast has come a long way, but Pete's advice, lessons learned in comedy, and chat about Late Night TV is worth the listen. 

Pete originally came on the podcast in 2014 as Episode 15 to promote his TBS late night show, "The Pete Holmes Show".  Of course since this episode Pete has gone on to make the incredible HBO series "Crashing", and recently released his book, "Comedy Sex God". Pete is also the host of the long running comedy podcast, "You Made It Weird", and has several comedy specials available through HBO and Comedy Central. Hopefully we will have Pete back on the podcast in a future episode. 

Before we get to Pete, I also talked about 31 Days of Horror that started TODAY and some of the locations I'll be going to this month. I'm excited to be doing 31 Days of Horror again and I can't wait for you guys to see the new 1 minute videos.

Back when I was trying to decide if I should start a podcast, I knew Dave would be the perfect person to talk to as he had been touring with Neon Trees as their tour guitarist and we had a history in music together. All these years later Dave is finally back on the show. Even though we just live a few streets away from each other, we rarely get to catch up and usually only run into each other at comedy shows or when I see Dave waiting to cross the street (listen to the episode for context). 

Dave and I talked about what we've been up to, the awkward social pressure of having adult friends, the people we see around our neighborhood, The Simpsons, Norm MacDonald impressions, and a lot of other nonsense.

As I mentioned in the first solo episode, one of my biggest issues when I started the podcast years ago was a lack of consistency. This was something I wanted to change and vowed I would. So in the wake of my frustration of not having a guest, I decided to take a deep breath and not let it ruin my week. 

If you listen to The Good Place: The Podcast, at the end of every episode Mark Evan Jackson asks each guest "What's Good?". The guest can answer anything here that brings them joy. It could be a charity, their family, ice cream, really anything that brings them joy. As I sat here frustrated I found me asking myself, "What's Good?". This inspired me to record an episode to talk about how all of us can try and do better and do good. 

There's so many terrible things going on the world. While putting our head in the sand and pretending like they don't exist isn't the answer, what we can do is try and do good for ourselves, for our neighbors, and for our community. 

I talked about my own personal goals to get better and evolve as a human, some of the charities that I support and love, methods I use to put my head in a better place, self care, great pages I follow, and just how to be a better person. 

This feels like some crazy Tony Robbins bullshit, but it's not. This was just what was on my mind this week was how we can get over the let downs life hands us and to just get better and do good. 

I hope this episode is something that can make you simple and inspire you to do some good. 

Let's all keep getting better.

There's no guest on this episode as I wanted to take the time to share some of the big news from D23 and talk about our experiences at Long Beach Comic Con. We recieved so much news at D23, primarily focused on a lot of the Disney+ programming. There was a lot of news from Star Wars, Marvel, The Muppets, and of course The Simpsons. 

It was great to return to Long Beach Comic Con this year. It seemed to be a little quieter this year with the lack of some past vendors and guests, but I attributed that to the stiff competition in the convention circuit this past weekend. Nonetheless, we still have a great time. One of the stand out vendors that we've looked at before was Unwrapped Art. We've had some of their work on the instagram and you'll hear all about them in this episode. 

There's a lot of great things happening in entertainment right now. So many great new shows in the works, great comics, new films, and great art! Thank you for having us back Long Beach! And don't forget to get signed up for Disney+ as it launches November 12th.

Luke is best known for his work on Saturday Night Live as he was part of the Season 43 cast. Luke also just released his first comedy album called, "Guitar Comic", which I cannot suggest enough. Luke and I had never met before, but was somebody I was a fan of that I wanted to learn more about it. I decided to reach out to him and was thrilled that he was willing to come on the show.

Matt and I have been Facebook friends for a few years, but it took us a bit of talking to actually remember how we met. Matt is an incredible actor and comedian who has been seen on CONAN, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Kominksy Method, and The Big Bang Theory, just to name a few.

Leading up to the San Diego Comic-Con episode, I didn't release an episode for 2 months. I wasn't taking an hiatus or anything of that nature, episodes just simply didn't happen. I went through a lot during those two months. A lot of self discovery, and a lot of loss in someways. During that time I found my way to Ron Funches new podcast "Gettin' Better", which ultimately inspired to record this particular episode. 

I decided to take the time in this episode to talk about changes coming to the podcast, as well as a lot of personal changes. I've always lacked consistency with this podcast, which is critical to a podcasts success. While I restructure some of the show, I will now be releasing episodes EVERY FRIDAY. I also talk about my battle with depression, understanding how to get through it, weight loss and weight gain, battling food addiction and understanding addiction, Little One's health scare, how I'm getting better, and so much more. 

I was honestly scared to record this episode alone. I didn't know if I would be able to have a conversation essentially with myself and the sound foam and microphone in front of me. It proved to be very cathartic. I hope this is something that all of you can enjoy as I strive to bring you the best episodes and content that I can. This is our fifth year returning to SDCC to do a live show, and this years show did not disappoint! A few days leading up to Comic-Con, I actually didn't know if this panel/show was even going to happen. Guests continued to fall through, and a few days before the convention my co-host also dropped out. Luckily though with moments notice, Todd Masters and Stacie Carver from Toddland quickly jumped on as guests. I knew my friend James Simenc would also be in town taping with Conan, and he joined the show last minute as my co-host. With our largest crowd to date, we had possibly my favorite shows we've done here. 

On the episode I talked with James about prepping for the Conan Comic-Con sketches and some of his moments with Conan, as well as a little bit of our Nerdmelt history for the audience. We also talked with Todd and Stacie about their creative process for their Comic-Con exclusives for Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, and American Dad, as well as what it was like to grow up with Todd and so much more. 

I can't begin to thank James, Todd, and Stacie enough for being so willing to join me last minute. I had such an incredible time with them and it made this year's SDCC absolutely incredible for me. As I mention in the intro, I apologize for the audio issues on the episode. Some mics are louder then others. While I tried to do my best to balance them in editing, the damage was done to some sections. Our mic check before the show was good, so I don't know why we had an issue. I first met Eddie and Ryan very briefly in passing during my time at Meltdown when Historical Roasts and Fictional Roasts were regular shows at NerdMelt. However, this was the first time we've actually sat down and talked and it was such a great time!

I talked with Eddie and Ryan about their time as interns at NerdMelt and how they created the show during one of their shifts, how the concept for the show evolved, bringing our mutual friend Samee Junio on as a Producer, selling the show to Netflix, working with Jeff Ross, seeing it on The Tonight Show, and so much more!

I was so incredibly excited to talk with Guinevere and Mary as "American Psycho" is one of my favorite films. I actually didn't know I would be talking to Mary on this episode. As soon as I hung up with Guinevere, their publicist let me know they actually had Mary for me as well an hour later.

Nathan's first feature film, "Impossible Monsters", premiers this Satuday, March 9th at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose. I rarely go back and watch a film twice when prepping to record shows, but "Impossible Monsters" is such a fun, twisted thriller that I wanted to make sure that I didn't miss anything. "Impossible Monsters" follows an ambitious professor who gets caught up in the murder of a participant in his sleep study, as the line between dreams and reality blur. 

On the episode I talked with Nathan about about the idea for "Impossible Monsters" came about, dealing with his own sleep paralysis, the intense paitings in the film, how the production design fit in with the story, casting, and so much more.

Today's films come to us from the Live Action and Documentary Short categories. I talked with 3 of the Oscar nominated filmmakers, starting with Guy Nattiv from "Skin", Jeremy Comte from "Fauve", and Marshall Curry from "A Night at the Garden". 

Today's collection of films are all incredibly intense films with powerful themes and messages. I talked with each of the filmmakers about how their films stories came about, how Marshall learned about the Night at the Garden, the acting choices made in the films, the messages they hope are taken away from their films and so much more! Marshall Curry recently made the news with "A Night at the Garden" when Fox News refused to play his 30 second trailer. 

The Oscar Shorts are still playing in theaters around the country, as well as on the Oscar Shorts TV. All 15 films nomianted in the short film categories are absolutely incredible and I've had a wonderful time talking to all of these great filmmakers. This is the final part of our 3 part Oscar Shorts coverage and we can't begin to thank all of these Oscar Nominated Directors enough for their time.

I talked with all of these filmmakers about finding out their films were nominated for an Oscar, as well as all of the individual aspects of each of their films, how they developed their story, what inspired them in the filmmaking process, troubles they encountered, and so much more. 

The Oscar Shorts are still playing in theaters around the country, as well on the Oscar Shorts TV. All 15 films nominated in the short film categories are absoultely incredible and are having a wonderful time talking to all of these filmmakers. Austin and I sat down and reflected on the whirlwind of a year that 2018 has been. With our first full year living in Los Angeles under our belts, we have a lot to look forward to in 2019. 

So often we see the circular post of "this past year was horrible, here's to next year" only to be repeated time and time again on New Years Eve. We've instead decided to look at how things may have beaten us up this year, and what we've learned and taken away from those experiences to make 2019 even better. 

We reflected on the some of the great times we've had, the awesome events we got to attend, and some of the new changes in our lives. We don't know what 2019 has instore for us, but we're ready for it. 

Thank you to everybody who has continued to support us this year! We hope everybody has a safe and Happy New Year. We look forward to sharing 2019 with you.

We've had such a great time filming at all of these haunted locations and telling their history and their stories. We of course are skeptical on these kind of stories, but we love telling them. While filming, we definitely had some weird experiences that we talked about on the episode.

Reinaldo's debut feature film, "Monsters and Men" hits theaters this weekend! After winning the Special Jury Price at this year's Sundance Film Festival, "Monsters and Men" and continued to receive great praise from movie goers and critics alike. The film offers a unique take on the sensitive topic of police brutality and is a film we feel everybody should see.

Austin Grant and I took a short drive down from Los Angeles to check out the 10th Annual Long Beach Comic Con. While we love the big conventions like SDCC and NYCC, smaller conventions like Long Beach offer us far more opportunies to meet and see so many great artists and comic book vendors. 

On the episode we talk about all of the great cosplay that we've seen, some of our favorite artists at LBCC, Austin forgetting to register his badge, foggy Long Beach mornings, and so much more.
