The Somalian community childcare, health care/transportation and other government services fraud is a story that just won’t go away. It is percolating under the surface like a ticking time bomb.

After the independent journalists’ reports on the Minneapolis massive fraud in the Somalian community of Greater Minneapolis by Nick Shirley, attention quickly turned to the second-largest Somalian community in America, Columbus, Ohio.

Quickly, independent investigative journalists began knocking on doors and doing a search of addresses where money from state government was sent for the purposes of childcare, health care, and transportation services. The shocking reports revealed that these were empty offices. The childcare facilities had few or no children coming or going, and yet these entities received hundreds of thousands, and in some cases, millions of dollars from state and federal government.

This did not escape the attention of some state officials who began doing their own investigations into the allegations and whistleblower reports. State Auditor Keith Faber and his staff are working to secure more records for review. State Attorney General Dave Yost stood in a press conference with State Rep. Josh Williams, supporting legislation that would grant more overseeing authority of these programs by the state legislature and State Auditor’s office. Forty-two House members co-signed the legislation. 

One has to wonder, where is this all going? It is obviously a story that is not going away, as more information comes to light. A word of warning to those in government who are hiding the truth and that are culpable – to hide a crime is a crime. Thank you for listening to News in Focus.

A grand jury has indicted former CNN host Don Lemon in the Cities Church St. Paul protest attack. Federal authorities arrested Don Lemon last night at his hotel in Los Angeles. The Justice Department had been turned down by a federal judge for additional arrests in the Cities Church protest attack, but a grand jury has issued indictments for Mr. Don Lemon and three other co-defendants, bringing the total number of arrests of participants in the Cities Church protest attack to seven. Joining me to discuss the charges through the FACE Act is pro-life activist Mark Harrington, President of Created Equal. We discuss the climate on college campuses and universities in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's assassination. Conservative student groups are repositioning themselves to engage on the issues with their fellow students as they are confronted with a new climate of fear and potential violence. 

On Sunday, January 18th, at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, a large group of protesters barged into the sanctuary during the Sunday morning worship service, yelling and screaming at the congregants. The small congregation was terrified by the large group of protesters that overcame their church flock. The pastor tried to reason with the protestors, to no avail. They continued shouting and screaming. The protest rioters were led by disgraced CNN journalist Don Lemmon, who took the opportunity to live-stream the event on social media. Reports from the church show that children, youth, and older congregants were terrified. The radical agitators that barged into the church, disrupting the Christian worship service, were obviously violating the First Amendment rights of these Minnesotans.

President Trump announced last May during the National Day of Prayer observance that he was opening a Faith Office in the Whitehouse to address religious freedom.

That is why today, we are calling on the federal authorities to swiftly move and arrest those who violated the rights of these Christian believers. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stated, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”   It is imperative that state and federal public officials act swiftly to bring these violators to justice. Today, we are calling on Governor DeWine, our U.S. Senators, and members of Congress to make statements condemning the actions of those militant protestors that violated the First Amendment rights of our fellow Christians. The Ohio Christian Alliance will be monitoring the statements from public officials and reporting back to our church network statewide.

Ohio Christian Alliance, in 2021, spoke out against a similar church attack in downtown Columbus at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral, when a group of leftist radicals entered the church and disrupted the Mass, terrorizing congregants. On the following Sunday, OCA President Chris Long with Attorney General Dave Yost attended morning services at St. Joseph’s Cathedral to show solidarity and support for the congregation and to urge the city officials to take action against the criminal violators. Law enforcement did respond, tracked down and arrested those responsible for the attack on St. Joseph’s Cathedral.  Joining me on the broadcast is Pastor Bob Hess of Fresh Faith Community Church. 

Somali Fraud Update: We now know that part of the $700M in cash came directly from Ohio. Columbus Ohio Somali fraudsters transported $130 million in Tax-Payer Dollars to Minnesota.”

Two powerful committee chairmen in Congress are moving quickly to investigate why Somali immigrant couriers were moving hundreds of millions of dollars out of U.S. airports in their luggage to overseas destinations the last few years, and whether there is any connection to a massive fraud scheme in Minnesota or terror groups in their native country in Africa. 

“We're going to do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of this […] and it will mean subpoenaing these things,” Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Just the News in an interview Thursday. He also revealed that federal agents are probing the massive cash transfers that move through a network centered in the Minneapolis airport.

Ohio Reps. Josh Williams, R-Sylvania Township, and D.J. Swearingen, R-Huron, introduced new child safety and anti-fraud legislation related to publicly funded childcare centers at a Jan. 15 press conference, alongside Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. 

Williams said that he believes that there are millions of dollars in childcare fraud in the state and the proposed law creates a "simple rule." "If you are using taxpayer money, you will provide attendance, prove services and prove compliance — or you will lose funding and face potential prosecution if we find waste, fraud or abuse" Williams said. To increase fraud enforcement, Williams said that publicly-funded day cares would be required to install internal and external cameras in public areas that can be accessed at any time by the Ohio Department of Children and Youth to conduct visual audits of how many children are in a day care at a given time. He said the bill would also improve the reliability of the attendance-checking ability of the state and prevent providers from signing children in themselves.

The state would also be required to immediately suspend public funding from any day care suspected of fraud, and to create a "mandatory enforcement escalation," requiring the state to report any instances of suspected fraud to the Ohio auditor, who can refer cases to the Ohio attorney general if there is prosecutable fraud. "This ensures fraud is not handled internally, like we've seen, and swept under the rug because the department or the administration does not want to have a black eye or appear to demonize a particular community or group," Williams said. Yost said he supports the legislation and that it will provide his office a tool to fight fraud in Ohio and create independence in investigations.

State Auditor Keith Faber launches special webpage to receive citizen reports of fraud and abuse of Ohio taxpayer dollars. Auditor Faber also released a statement addressing the increased reports of widespread childcare/home healthcare/eldercare fraud. In response to a request by the Ohio Legislature signed by forty-one State Representatives, Auditor Faber's office will be conducting additional investigations and audits of state agencies, asking them to verify their audits of facilities that are receiving state and federal funding. Auditor Faber made the following statement, "My team has completed more than 50 compliance examinations of providers, including those receiving Medicaid funding to provide home health care to Ohioans in need. In the process, we have identified $4.5 million in improper payments to those providers." Auditor Faber went on to say, "Let me be clear: Allegations of fraud involving public dollars should never be brushed aside or dismissed with a hand wave. Ohioans expect and deserve accountability from those in charge of protecting their tax dollars. In reading and listening to many of the responses to statements from public officials, I understand that many Ohioans don’t believe bad actors are being held accountable. We review every credible allegation, but bear in mind, not every allegation results in a finding of fraud, but it is always our duty as public officials to find the truth. We forward all evidence-based claims for prosecution as appropriate..."

Nick Shirley, the 23-year-old investigative reporter, has uncovered massive healthcare and childcare fraud in the State of Minnesota, largely focused around the Somalian community. The Trump Administration, in response to the videos that have gone viral on social media, has dispatched multi levels of federal government, including the Justice Department, to investigate the claims of massive fraud. The second-largest Somalian population resides in Columbus, Ohio. Urgent calls have gone out, calling for state officials and the DeWine Administration to investigate the same type of facilities, as fraud is suspected in Ohio. State Rep. Josh Williams sent a letter, cosigned by forty-one State Representatives, urging Kara Wente, Director of the Department of Child and Youth, to launch unannounced inspections of child care and health care facilities, specifically in the Columbus area, to ensure accountability. This move comes as a result of public reports, alleging that certain child care facilities participating in publicly-funded childcare/healthcare programs, are fraudulently billing the State of Ohio for children who are not in attendance. The Auditor of State Keith Faber has launched his own investigation into the home health care programs, as there is suspected fraud, largely focusing on the Franklin County area. DELIVERING A WIN FOR AMERICAN FAMILIES AND AUTOMAKERS: President Donald J. Trump is delivering major relief to American families by resetting the Biden Administration’s costly and unlawful Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards.

• President Trump is returning CAFE standards to levels that can actually be met with conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles. The Biden Administration standards imposed unrealistic fuel economy targets that effectively resulted in an electric vehicle (EV) mandate.
• The Trump Administration’s reset of the CAFE standards ensures the program’s fidelity to the legal restrictions set forth by Congress.
• The Biden standards broke the law by going far beyond the requirements that were mandated by Congress when it created the CAFE program.  Senator Bernie Moreno worked on this for months with the Administration. He discusses how this will lower the price of cars for lower and middle class families. 
• The tax cuts that begin in January will put more money in people's pockets as deductions from their paychecks will decrease. Greg Lawson of the Buckeye Institute explains the four real estate tax reform measures that passed both the Ohio House and Senate on Wednesday of this week. Greg breaks down how H.B. 186, H.B. 129, H.B. 335, and H.B. 309 will bring meaningful relief to homeowners who have been suffering with high real estate taxes over the past few years. Many homeowners will actually see a modest credit next year of taxes that were  paid over the last few years, as a result of this legislation. Also passed on the overnight in a late session were meaningful restrictions on intoxicating hemp products. After forty days of government shutdown, enough Democrats joined the Republicans to pass the continuing resolution spending bill that funds government agencies, the U.S. military, farms, and the food stamp program. What was also in the bill was a correction of the 2018 Farm Bill, closing the loophole that was exploited by the intoxicating hemp industry over the past five years. The bill was signed by President Trump. The ban goes into effect in 365 days. Now that there is a federal ban on intoxicating hemp, what will the Ohio Legislature do? Here to discuss it is the Chairman of the Keep Ohio Safe Committee, Bishop John T. Coats. 

Today we’re joined by Chris Lindsey, An Expert on the 2018 Farm Bill that has a terrible loophole that is being exploited by the unregulated intoxicating hemp industry.  Chris leads national and state-level efforts to modernize cannabis and hemp policy, with a particular focus on regulating intoxicating hemp-derived products and building consistent, science-based standards across jurisdictions. A former trial attorney and longtime advocate for responsible reform, he’s been at the center of the debate over how Congress and the states should define, regulate, and enforce laws governing cannabinoids in the post–Farm Bill era. Call your State Senator and State House member and urge them to take a stand to strongly restrict with tough regulations intoxicating hemp products, keeping them away from children and off the corner store shelves. 

When the Ohio House gutted and hijacked S.B. 56, it was with the intent of legalizing intoxicating hemp products in Ohio. Intoxicating hemp products have been showing up on the shelves in Ohio stores since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill which authorized the farm and industrial use of hemp products. Exploiting a loophole in the federal law, manufacturers of intoxicating hemp products began selling them in Ohio and other states. So as to not be confused, this has nothing to do with the passage of Issue 2 - the legalization of marijuana in 2023.

These products that Governor DeWine highlighted in his press release on banning the products from the shelves in his Executive Order three weeks ago, are being sold in your corner store and small grocers around the State of Ohio. Many people are shocked to learn about the accessibility of these products outside of the 400 marijuana dispensaries. These products are a danger to children. The poison hotline has had a 500% increase since 2023. Shockingly, the bill passed the Ohio House by a large margin. The Ohio Senate, furious with the action of the House, soundly voted it down. It now heads to conference committee. To learn more, here is an interview with Trent Woloveck, who discusses intoxicating hemp and soon will be filing a lawsuit in the State of Ohio. 

LEGISLATIVE ALERT - H.B. 455 Seeks to Eliminate American Government and American History in the Ohio Classroom by eliminating the end of course exam requirement. ALERT: The bill received sponsor testimony on Tuesday in the Ohio House Education Committee. It is already up for a proponent testimony on Tuesday. They are fast-tracking this bill. This is the liberal teachers union's fourth attempt over the past seven years to eliminate the Founding of America Documents Curriculum that was passed into law in 2012 and is now in its thirteenth year of implementation in Ohio schools from the 8th - 12th grade. Our students are required to learn one-half credit hour of American Government and one-half credit hour of American History with an end of course exam. The exam requirement is the guarantee that it will be taught in all of Ohio's 88 school districts. We are watchmen on the wall. Let's safeguard the teaching of American Government and American History in Ohio's schools. WE NEED YOU TO TAKE ACTION. Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose released the following statement in response to an activist lawsuit, orchestrated by the law firm of national partisan operative Marc Elias, attempting to strip important protections that prevent noncitizens from registering to vote in Ohio: “Both federal law and the Ohio Constitution prohibit noncitizens from voting. But now dark money groups represented by D.C. operatives are challenging a law that prevents noncitizens from registering to vote at the BMV. It’s common sense that only U.S. citizens should be on our voter rolls.

Marc Elias’ law firm orchestrated a baseless lawsuit challenging Ohio’s ability to verify citizenship before offering individuals voter registration at the BMV. • This same law firm filed a similar lawsuit against Wyoming just a few months ago. They already lost that case, which was dismissed by a federal court. • This is just the latest attempt by activists to cause chaos in Ohio’s election system. SOS Frank LaRose is defending Ohio's election laws in court against these radical leftist lawsuits, safeguarding Ohio's election integrity. 

In this special report, Senator Husted explains how the Democrats have forced the government shutdown. Chuck Schumer and minority leader Jeffries are playing politics and forcing the government to shutdown. This time the stakes are different, as the Associated Press has reported that the Democrats have forced the shutdown. Sixty votes are needed to pass the spending bill. 

The liberal teachers union is at it again. They have convinced Republicans to do their bidding. They are out to do away with American Government and History curriculum in the Ohio classroom. The Founding of America Documents curriculum, currently required in all of Ohio's 88 school districts, is again being challenged, this time by H.B. 455, sponsored by Rep. Gail Manning and Rep. Adam Byrd. The effort is to do away with the end of course exam requirement, which is the guarantee that the curriculum will be taught. This is their fourth attempt over the last ten years. We need Ohioans to call their state representatives and urge them to stop this ridiculous effort. Larry Obhof, who is the current Chief Legal Counsel for the Secretary of State and former State Senate President, was the sponsor of the Founding of America Documents Curriculum, S.B. 165, in 2012, that strengthened Ohio's American Government and American History standards in the 8th - 12th grades. This week, in a shocking act of violence, a shooter at Utah State University silenced one of America's great youthful voices. Charlie Kirk stood for his faith, his country, and the American way of life, engaging with young people across the country on the issues of the day. We are deeply saddened by his death. Our prayers go out to his wife Erika, his children, extended family, and the Turning Point USA organization that he led so well.

Charlie was the voice for millions of young conservatives, and his death is a tremendous loss felt by many. Matt Walsh put out a powerful statement, calling out the hateful dangerous rhetoric of the political left that has led to the violent actions of many of their followers. He says this is not a time to hold hands, this is a time for justice. President Trump has assured the American people there will be changes. Charlie Kirk stood for freedom of speech and freedom of religion. He was gunned down by an assassin's bullet while engaging with the youth of America on a college campus. 

Mission America, an Ohio-based Christian organization, is leading a coalition asking parents, students and teachers as well as churches to commit to a month of prayer during October as reckless, deceptive events roll out in many schools featuring rainbow radicalism,  obscene library selections,  “drag” queens as special speakers/assemblies, in-class lessons, and more.

“We implore Almighty God to intervene and protect children at school from systematic sexual corruption they’re often forced to endure during October,” said Linda Harvey, president of Mission America. “Students may be taught that ‘queer’ behaviors and identities have been an admirable part of human history; that they are inborn and unchangeable; and that all objections are hateful bigotry akin to racism. Drug overdoses are down, according to Woodhaven Recovery director Greg Delaney, in his home county. One factor is the increased enforcement at our southern border, stopping the flow of human trafficking and drug trafficking. The work of addiction recovery continues throughout Ohio's communities, as many are still suffering with drug and alcohol addiction. Fentanyl that is cheap and readily available, along with crystal meth, is the problem among our youth. The help line for those suffering from addiction is 988.

State Rep. Dave Thomas of District 65 explains what the four provisions of real estate tax reform are and why they are an important first step to restructure Ohio's real estate tax.  Rep. Thomas discusses in detail these four provisions and emphasizes there is still much work to do to fix the problem. He also sounds an alarm that next year's assessments will be even higher. That's why there is no time to waste. We are urging the General Assembly to override Governor DeWine's vetoes on all four provisions, and when they come back in the fall, to get busy on more legislation that will restructure the current real estate tax to finally bring Ohioans relief.

Ohio has higher median real estate taxes than the border states of Michigan ($1,670), Indiana ($995), Kentucky ($1,551), and West Virginia ($728). Ohio’s median real estate tax is $2,823. Only New York and Pennsylvania are higher. Even Virginia, with its high priced northern Virginia properties, has lower real estate tax than Ohio. It is time to stop the talking and get to work on lowering real estate taxes for Ohio working men and women and their families.

Ohio has a new flat tax. State Senator George Lang of Ohio's 4th District explains how this new flat tax will help grow Ohio's economy by encouraging businesses to move to Ohio and hire new workers. Ohio's new flat income tax will go into effect in 2026.  Ohio has new energy policy and is poised for growth. Senator Lang explains Ohio's history with the income tax and how it has been a detriment to Ohio. His desire is to eliminate the income tax, but the flat tax is a move in the right direction.

The Project: Mobilizing a network of volunteers helping Ohio read, tackling Ohio’s literacy challenge for students and adults.

The Need is to help Ohio school children who have fallen behind in reading comprehension due to the COVID shutdown. Overall, national scores are below pre-pandemic 2019 levels in all grades and subjects. According to the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University, the lockdown produced long-term consequences for K-12 education.

The Solution - The key to tutoring success is to give the student small successes along the way that they can build upon that will encourage them in their progress. Our volunteers are encouraging people and look forward to the challenge.

Each LifeRead volunteer tutor brings with them their own experience, knowledge, ingenuity, and desire to help others. They incorporate practices such as echo reading, paired reading, and duet reading, which have been proven to improve reading comprehension for both children and adults.

Discussion with State Senator Andy Brenner, Chairman of the Education Committee

The National Report Card which came out in February has stirred discussion about the graveness of the national education crisis. Only 30 percent of fourth graders and 29 percent of eight grade students are reading-proficient nationally.  In Ohio, only 32 percent of both fourth and eighth graders are reading- proficient. Assessments conducted earlier this year also indicate that some students are two and three years behind in their grade reading levels.

Real Estate Tax Reform will be an issue that OCA will work on in 2025 with citizens groups across Ohio. Inflation and the cost of living are bearing down on our seniors, those on fixed incomes, and young families as they struggle to pay for the essentials. The increased real estate tax assessments of the last year have grown between 20% and 30% for most Ohioans. This not only affects homeowners, but rents increase when real estate taxes go up; everyone is affected. And the caps on increases that we seek will benefit everyone.

We will have a 3-pronged approach to the issue: Urging the General Assembly to act to put meaningful real estate tax reform in the budget, working with local officials to enact a self-imposed cap- giving relief to residents, and organizing for a ballot issue if local officials and legislators fail to act. In this episode, Maurice Thompson discusses a 3% annual cap on real estate tax as an amendment to the Constitution. This is a long-term solution to Ohio's over-tax problem

Greg Lawson of the Buckeye Institute discusses the complex challenges facing legislators as they wrestle with how to bring relief to Ohio homeowners on the real estate tax increase issue. Most residents have seen  dramatic increases in their real estate taxes, between 20 and 30 percent increase across Ohio. Members of the General Assembly are hearing complaints from their constituents that they need financial relief in regard to this dramatic increase on real estate taxes. Citizens groups have been coming to the Statehouse to press the issue with members of the General Assembly. A Select Committee on Real Estate Tax and Reform is finalizing their findings and presenting them to both the Ohio Senate and Ohio House for possible legislative resolutions to bring homeowners relief. But, with so many competing interests, the questions remains, will anything substantive get done this December? Greg Lawson explains.

The political left is pushing a radical redistricting plan for the November ballot. This convoluted, complicated redistricting plan, if passed by Ohio voters in November, will take the redraw of the district lines away from the people and their representatives and put it in the hands of the political left with retired judges and academic elites. They claim this will stop gerrymandering, but in reality, Issue One will be gerrymandering on steroids, and not representative of the people of the state of Ohio 

The Ohio Department of Education released its State Report Card for 2023-2024.

In his 2023 State of the State Address, Governor DeWine highlighted the need to focus on Ohio schoolchildren’s reading proficiency. Due to the COVID shutdown, Ohio students were at least one grade level behind in their reading proficiency. He stated that 40% of Ohio third grade students were not proficient in reading. He said, “Reading unlocks the door for all future learning and truly provides a lifetime of opportunity.” 

Ohio’s 2023 assessments indicated 38% of students were not proficient in reading. Among economically disadvantaged students, 55% were not proficient in English language arts. The 2024 Ohio school report card for third grade reading proficiency has improved slightly. In the words of the State Superintendent, "The situation remains urgent." A 2022 Gallup Poll of faith in America found that for the first time since 1928, under 50% of Americans hold any faith tradition or association whatsoever. Many church denominations report drastic decreasing numbers of general church attendance. Generation Z is the most unchurched generation in American history, according to the Gallup poll.

Among young people in their 30’s and 40’s is a movement of deconstructing their faith.  In Ohio, leading up to the 2020 pandemic, church attendance was on the decline and church closures were steadily increasing.

Post-pandemic, it has accelerated to where thousands of churches in Ohio have closed, and some have merged to stay viable and to survive, including Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox churches.

Christian Universities and Seminaries are also on the decline.  Many have closed. Others are reporting lower enrollments.

Atheism, the occult, and satanism, are on the rise.

We are living in unprecedented times when Christian leaders are renouncing their faith and large numbers of believers are falling away. Is this the final apostasy prophesied by Jesus and Paul? Is there hope for the younger generation to experience a move of God in their time?

Ohio SOS Frank LaRose has turned over to the Ohio Attorney General for prosecution 666 files of non-U.S. citizens registering and some voting in Ohio's election. Secretary LaRose also purged 156,000 inactive voters from the voting rolls in the last month, heading into the November election. The Secretary's office also issued a statement that they have received information from the Boards of Election of false voter registrations and falsification of petitions, and will be sending the findings over to Attorney General Dave Yost to pursue for prosecution. The Secretary of State has been busy cleaning up Ohio's voter rolls in advance of the November 5th election. Tune in and hear the details. 

The political left, with help from big donors, has secured enough signatures to place their convoluted redistricting plan on the November ballot as a constitutional amendment.  Because we were unsuccessful in raising the threshold last year in the August special election, a simple majority vote is all that is needed to radically change the way Ohio's representative districts are drawn - not by the people's elected representatives, but rather by appointed judges and academics. That alone should cause you to have a cold chill run down your spine. They're out to draw Ohio blue with the backing of Barack Obama and Eric Holder who have been doing this in other states, making sure there are less Republican Congressional districts. Here to discuss the details is Jonathan Broadbent. He emphasizes that it is going to take the conservative grassroots to rally themselves and defeat Issue 1 on the November 5th ballot.

But as Marjorie Taylor Greene stated, "Her resignation isn't the end of this failure. Chaetle and Mayorkas will face accountability for actions, including possible criminal investigations. I won't let this go unanswered."

OCA/CAA Statement -

On Saturday at a rally in Pennsylvania, President Trump miraculously survived an assassination attempt by a long-rifle shooter on a roof near the event. So close was the bullet that it pierced the President's ear. Secret Service converged on the President, protecting him from any additional rounds that were being shot. Tragically, three spectators at the rally were struck by some of the bullets. Two are in critical condition, and one is confirmed deceased. FOX News, along with some of the national media are covering the tragic event. Thankfully, President Trump has survived the shooting and is in good spirits. He expresses his appreciation to the security detail and his condolences to those who were tragically affected by today's shooting. The FBI has announced that they will take the lead on the investigation. Members of Congress are calling for hearings and for members of the Secret Service agency to appear before Congress to explain the security breach. Republicans from across the country are travelling to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the National Republican Convention where President Trump is expected to accept his party's nomination for President and to announce his Vice-Presidential running mate. We urge all our our member contacts throughout Ohio to pray fervently for our nation. Pray for President Trump and all candidates running for office. Senator J.D. Vance made the following statement concerning the vitriol reckless political speech that is fomenting hostilities against President Trump and his supporters.

On this weekend special edition of News in Focus, we cover the growing pressure on Joe Biden to drop out of the race and possibly to resign due to health reasons. The pressure is coming from the Democrats. Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch has a report. Ohio was facing two ballot issues this fall. With the failure of the minimum wage increase effort, it will now be one issue, a monster new redistricting plan from the political left. They are out to turn Ohio blue. Finally, we cover the RNC platform committee attempt to change the pro-life language in the platform. Pressure is coming from pro-life groups across America for them not to do that. Earlier this month, Governor DeWine took the unusual step of calling for a special session of the Ohio General Assembly. Frustrated by the inactivity of the current House and Senate, the Governor called for the two houses to come together in a special session. The last special session was called in 2004 by Governor Taft twenty years ago. The Ohio Christian Alliance also had made a public statement about the inactivity of the General Assembly. In the past few weeks, committees in both the Ohio House and Ohio Senate have been on the move. And now, before the June 30th deadline, both houses are prepared for a flurry of bills to pass tomorrow, including the Capital Budget.  It remains to be seen what other bills will pass. Here to discuss it is Greg Lawson, Research Fellow at the Buckeye Institute. 

There continues to be a stalemate at the Ohio Statehouse. Legislation is bottled up in committee and not coming to the floor for a vote. Ohioans voted for a majority of Republicans In both the Ohio House and the Ohio Senate. Ohio is a conservative state, and people are frustrated as to why we do not see the same type of conservative legislation passing in Ohio that is passing in other conservative states. The problem continues to be Speaker Stephens, who was elected Speaker with a majority of Democrats, not Republicans.  This continues to be a point of frustration for conservatives in both the House and Senate. This stalemate is now at historic levels, as this General Assembly has passed less legislation than any other Oho legislature going back 70 years. Frustrated by the standoff, Governor DeWine himself called for a special session. The last time a Governor had to call for a special session was in 2004. The Ohio House and the Ohio Senate did come together this week to pass a bill that would ban foreign money from interfering in Ohio’s elections. They also voted to put Joe Biden on the Ohio ballot. The question remains, will the Ohio House and Senate come together to pass meaningful conservative legislation, or will the stalemate continue the rest of this session? State Rep. Scott Wiggam of the 77th Ohio House District in Wayne County discusses legislation that he has introduced to address the illegal immigration problem in Ohio.  H.B. 327, E-Verify, will penalize employers who hire illegal immigrants. H.B. 451, The Wire Act, will track American funds being wired out of the State of Ohio. Drug cartels and human traffickers are wiring money out of the state that they acquire by selling drugs and sex trafficking in the state. Rep. Wiggam's bill will finally track this money.  The third piece of legislation is a Texas-style illegal immigration law. Illegal immigration is illegal, in Ohio and we should treat it as such. Ohio as a border state should have the  authority for its law enforcement to arrest and deport illegals from the State of Ohio. Tune in and tell a friend. 

Protests are breaking out on college campuses across the country. Intertwined among them is a rise in anti-Semitism. Congressional members in a press conference today, called on the administration and state officials to act, protecting Jewish students attending their colleges and universities. Speaker Johnson called for the NYPD to act at Columbia and if need be, the National Guard. Speaker Johnson said in today's press conference that the nation is beset with problems and the world is on fire right now; it's imperative for people of strong moral courage and resolve to act. 

Thursday is the National Day of Prayer. OCA/CAA President Chris Long will be speaking in Marietta, Ohio at the National Day of Prayer event in Ohio's charter city. 

The Ohio legislature continues to hold hearings on numerous pieces of legislation to address the housing crisis. Many young families are priced out of the market and there is a scarcity of affordable homes. OCA will hold an educational forum on Monday, May 13th at the Wadsworth Nazarene Church on the history of home mortgage lending and the current housing crisis. Jack Boyle, a 35-year veteran of home mortgage lending will be presenting. Also joining the Q&A panel will be Greg Lawson, Research Fellow with the Buckeye Institute.

Greg Lawson, Research Fellow at the Buckeye Institute, Ohio's conservative think tank, joins News in Focus to discuss with Chris Long Ohio's housing crisis and what legislators are doing about it. Rising costs due to inflation, high interest rates, and the lack of available single family homes, as well as rising rents, are driving the crisis. Ohio can't build for the future if it can't house the new workers coming in for the Intel project in central Ohio. Costs are high, builders aren't building, banks aren't lending, and younger adults are losing hope of ever realizing the American dream of owning their own home.

The Ohio Senate convened a select committee on housing earlier this year. They heard from mortgage lenders,  home builders, and other interested parties. They have taken those findings from the committee hearings and have drafted  legislation to address the problem. Senate President Matt Huffman stated in a press conference last week that there was not enough time this year to have a comprehensive plan in place, but that this will be a priority of the legislature and that it will take multiple years to turn the situation around in Ohio to address Ohio's housing crisis. 

The world breathes a sigh of relief as missile attack on Israel is thwarted by the Iron Dome. Inflation and the economic outlook is not good for the Biden Administration. Christian leaders and political leaders rebuke the Biden Administration for its disregard of Christianity's holiest day on the calendar. Easter Sunday is the celebration of Christ's resurrection in the Christian church worldwide. From our beginning as a nation, Presidents have acknowledged the Christian calendar and offered proclamations of peace and blessing. The Biden Administration broke from this tradition and instead announced a "Transgender Day of Visibility." Leaders from across the Christian community decried the White House's disregard for the Christian holiday.  Pastor Al Davis and I discuss this news event and how Christians should respond.

The Attorney General of Alabama declared it a success and stated that he would be available for other states' attorneys to contact his office for details.

Phil Plummer. “There must be accountability for offenders convicted of the most heinous crimes and prisoners who continue to flout the law behind bars,” Yost said. “The pursuit of justice is a journey, and closure remains elusive for victims’ families until a sentence is fully executed. Ensuring that the consequences align with the severity of an offense is essential to providing solace to grieving relatives.” “Capital punishment has been recognized by the state of Ohio since 1803. It is now time for the authorization of other methods for carrying out capital punishment in addition to lethal injections,” Plummer stated. “By using nitrogen hypoxia, we are giving the system an additional resource for holding accountable those who have committed heinous crimes. Claims of a lack of access to lethal injections by Ohio’s executive branch will no longer be the case. It is time that we stop postponing executions and give the families of victims the closure that they deserve.”

In the aftermath of the effort to defeat the passage of Issue 1, the abortion rights amendment, the pro-life movement is re-engaging to educate a younger voter and to start the discussion to advance a pro-life culture among 18-35 year-olds. Exit polls indicated that the pro-life community fared poorly with this age demographic. We must change that trajectory if we are going to build a culture of life with the current generation. Peter shares that he attended the March for Life for many years and participated with the marchers. But this year, he wanted to watch them walk by and witness who had come from across the country to make a stand for life. He was moved to tears watching the tens of thousands of young people who had come to march for life in our nation's capitol. President Trump wins the Iowa Caucuses in a resounding landslide. The Primaries now move on the New Hampshire and South Carolina. Former Speaker Newt Gingrich stated that President Trump is the nominee and the other candidates are also-rans at this point. Greg Lawson of the Buckeye Institute gives us a Statehouse update. H.B. 68, the Save Women's Sports and the Ohio SAFE Act is scheduled for a veto-override vote in the Ohio Senate Wednesday, January 24th. Other reports: Ohio's Bathroom Bill, H.B. 183, is still in committee. The Republican-led legislature is determined to pass this bill so that Ohio schoolchildren do not have to face the embarrassment of a member of the opposite sex using their bathroom. Ohio parents are opting for educational choice, as one of the major legislative successes of last year was the historic expansion of school choice. Tune in to learn the details. 

Candidate spotlight with Charles Tassell, a candidate for the Ohio 2nd Congressional District. 

Congressman Brad Wenstrup has announced his retirement, which has caused a flurry of interest in the Republicans' Congressional seat. District 2 has sixteen counties over Southern Ohio, and eleven candidates have filed for the Republican Primary. Charles Tassell explains why he is a Republican candidate for the Primary in the 2nd Congressional District. 

Speaker Stephens has called for the General Assembly to reconvene Wednesday January 10th at the Ohio Statehouse - first session of the new year. The main agenda item is the veto override vote on H.B. 68, the Ohio SAFE Act. Sixty votes are needed. The issue has become a national one, as Republicans in Ohio are in an uproar over Governor DeWine's veto of common sense legislation that protects girls' and women's sports by banning male athletes from competing in girl's and women's sports and bans hormone-blocking drugs for minors and bans life-altering sexual mutilation surgeries of minors at Ohio's hospitals.

Governor DeWine shocked members of his own party when he vetoed the common sense legislation of H.B. 68 the Ohio SAFE Act, legislation that protects women's sports for girls and women in the State of Ohio. It also bans the transgender indoctrination that is going on in public schools and in certain health clinics in Ohio and that is being pushed by children's hospitals. It bans hormone blocking drugs and gender mutilating surgeries on minors. Governor DeWine's veto angered conservatives throughout the state. A cascade of statements was launched by all statewide officeholders, the Chairman of the Ohio Republican Party, a number of Ohio House and Senate members, and even President Trump who weighed in and said the following, "DeWine has fallen to the Radical Left. No wonder he gets loudly booed in Ohio every time I introduce him at Rallies, but I won't be introducing him any more, I'm finished with this "stiff." What was he thinking. The bill would have stopped child mutilation, and prevented men from playing in women's sports. Legislature will hopefully overturn. Do it FAST!!!"

Rep. Reggie Stoltzfus of Ohio's 50th District discusses with OCA President Chris Long the importance of protecting girls' and women's sports in H.B. 68. The bill also bans hormone blocking drugs and life-altering surgeries for minors in Ohio. The gender dysphoria psychosis being pushed by public school counselors and some health clinics is pushing adolescents into life-altering decisions that many regret just a few years later. During the COVID shutdown, hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living centers forced the elderly, infirmed, and those hospitalized into isolation without the support of family, loved ones, or clergy. At the time of the COVID shutdown, the Ohio Christian Alliance received numerous reports of medical neglect and isolation of those who were in hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living centers due to the state government mandate (under the health emergency). The effects of the shutdown were much greater than was the spread of COVID-19 itself. We received heart-wrenching stories of individuals whose family members died in hospitals and nursing facilities without anyone present with them to hold their hand or to give them comfort. Rep. Melanie Miller of the 67th  House District and Rep. Beth Lear of the 61st House District are co-sponsors of H. B. 236, the Never Alone Act. Ohio SAFE Act H.B. 68 with Rep. Gary Click Protecting Ohio's Children from Transitioning Drugs and Surgery

State Rep. Gary Click of Ohio's 88th District has re-introduced Ohio's SAFE Act, H.B. 68. the legislation passed the Ohio House and is currently in the Ohio Senate. This legislation protects minors from life-altering surgeries and hormonal treatments that are being pushed by sociologists in the public schools and in certain health clinics. H.B. 68, the Ohio SAFE Act, has received testimony from young people who have gone through the horrible experience of transitioning from their birth gender by hormonal treatment and in some cases irreversible surgeries. For Their Honor - How the D-Day Prayer was added to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.

This book was written to tell the eleven-year story of how one of the largest mass prayers in history was added to the World War II Memorial. The D-Day Prayer was one of FDR's fireside chats, but it stands alone as an incredible moment in American history. The date was June 6th, 1944. Operation Overlord, the D-Day invasion of western France, was already underway by the Allied nations. News reports throughout the day were released from General Eisenhower 's headquarters with short statements, but with few details of what was happening with the landings and on the beaches of France. The American public anxiously awaited throughout the day to hear from President Roosevelt for more details on the historic invasion. What they heard that evening was a president inviting them to join him in prayer. This book tells the story of how this wonderful historic presidential prayer was added to the National Mall in Washington as a permanent addition to an already magnificent monument that was dedicated in the honor and for the memory of the Greatest Generation, the 16 million Americans who served us in World War II.

It increases the likelihood that users will endanger others by driving while under the influence. It heightens the risk of workplace injuries and employer liability. Vote NO on Issue 2. Let's not let Ohio go to pot. 

Corinne LaMarca shares the tragic story of her daughter's death by a driver impaired by marijuana. Her daughter was tragically taken by a driver in Cleveland who was severely impaired by marijuana. He was traveling at a high rate of speed and collided with Corrine's daughter's car. Her daughter passed away at the scene while the impaired driver had no injuries. Corrine tells her story to warn others of what the marijuana industry has planned for Ohio if Issue 2 passes.

A recent study finds marijuana use can lead to widespread health issues, including high rates of depression, poor sleep quality, addiction, and for pregnant women it can cause harm to their babies in the womb. The Daily Mail recently examined several medical studies into marijuana use. In Denmark, researchers found someone with cannabis use disorder was 4 times more likely to be diagnosed as bi-polar. Elsewhere, there have been many anecdotal reports of high-potency marijuana vapes causing psychotic breaks and suicidal thoughts. Marijuana is legal for recreational use in 21 US states and Washington DC. Vice President of Community Engagement and Global Goodwill at Evoke Wellness Drug and Alcohol Rehab, Jim Wahlberg, joins to share what he is seeing on the front lines regarding marijuana use and what sorts of health and mental problems he is seeing. Wahlberg discusses what it signals for marijuana use in the US that it is legal for recreational use in 21 states and for medicinal use in 40 states and whether there is any way to reverse some of these laws. They expose the wicked agenda of the left and what we must do to counter their efforts." 

An illegal immigrant who did not have a valid driver license was the cause of an accident with a school bus in Springfield, Ohio, that resulted in the fatality of an 11-year-old student and many injuries for other students when the bus overturned. State Rep. Scott Wiggam sounds the alarm and is drafting legislation to address the problems with illegal immigrants pouring into Ohio. 

Part 2  Seth Drayer of Created Equal describes the grassroots door-to-door and phone bank effort to defeat the November radical abortion ballot issue. The November Issue 1 ballot issue would legalize abortion to the 9th month of pregnancy and strike from the books all of Ohio's reasonable pro-life laws, including parental rights. In recent weeks, churches in multiple counties across Ohio have been victimized by disturbing vandalism and church property destruction. OCA has received reports from our contacts across the state on these disturbing attacks on churches. The vandalism has been documented by police reports and local news media. Major Ohio media has not covered the story. But the attacks have happened in multiple counties: Lake County (Willoughby), Cuyahoga (Parma), Richland (Shelby), and Washington (Churchtown). In this interview with Attorney General Dave Yost, we include news coverage from Channel 19 Cleveland and WTAP Parkersburg which covers southeast Ohio news.  AG Yost weighs in and shares his frustration with Merrick Garland's Justice Department, and encourages clergy to contact local law enforcement for aid and assistance. 

Part 2 - Ohio churches attacked by vandals- The increase in vandalism is concerning public officials

Church vandalism attacks again are on the increase here in the State of Ohio. A man from Painesville vandalized and attempted to set on fire a church in Willoughby earlier this month.  In Southeast Ohio, in Washington County, four adults were arrested who broke into, vandalized, and ransacked a church. The four have been arrested on charges of breaking and entering, desecration, and child endangerment, as a six-year-old child was with them during the incident. Church vandalism attacks again are on the increase here in the State of Ohio. A man from Painesville vandalized and attempted to set on fire a church in Willoughby earlier this month.  In Southeast Ohio, in Washington County, four adults were arrested who broke into, vandalized, and ransacked a church. The four have been arrested on charges of breaking and entering, desecration, and child endangerment, as a six-year-old child was with them during the incident. Part 2  Interview with Lizzy Marbach, former communications director of Ohio Right to Life

Lizzie and I discuss the recent August election on Issue 1's defeat. What can we learn from it and what must Christians and pro-life leaders do to defeat the radical abortion ballot issue in November? 1.3 million Ohioans voted for Issue One.  1.7 million Ohioans voted against it. As one analyst said in a recent report, these numbers do not portend a guarantee for the abortion ballot measure. Some Ohioans who voted no in August will also vote no in November. But, because Issue 1 failed, it will be a simple majority vote of 51% for passage. The Ballot Board meets this week and will assign issue numbers to both the abortion ballot issue and to the marijuana legalization issue. It's imperative for Ohioans to come out in big numbers and vote no in November.
