The Mesa Chamber of Commerce has announced its endorsement of Thomas Galvin for the District 2 seat on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. Galvin was appointed to the seat in December 2021 by a unanimous vote of the Board to fill the seat vacated by Steve Chucri.

Thomas Galvin represents District 2 on the Board of Supervisors. His #1 priority is to be a good steward of the County's fiscal resources by protecting the Maricopa County taxpayer. As a Supervisor, his issues of interest are; fighting inflation, fighting violent crime, economic development, housing, water, and fixing our roads. Galvin was appointed to the Board of Supervisors, to fill a vacancy in District 2, in December 2021.

Scott Somers represented District 6 on the Mesa City Council from 2006 to 2014, including serving two years as Vice Mayor. During his previous time on council, Scott Somers was dedicated to fiscal responsibility, attracting jobs and economic opportunities, enhancing public safety, and improving quality of life. He helped spearhead the efforts to develop the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway area into a high-wage job hub as well as helped to redevelop the former GM Proving Grounds into the award-winning Eastmark community.

Somers has spent a career on the front lines of fire and emergency medical services. He understands firsthand what it takes to ensure our first responders can be there when citizens need them most. During his time on council, Somers chaired the National League of Cities Public Safety and Crime Prevention steering committee and represented cities on the National Homeland Security Consortium, SAFECOM Executive Committee, and the Public Safety Advisory Committee to FirstNet. Somers was twice appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to the National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council.

At 18, Mona was also named one of the "Most Influential Black Women," alongside Oprah and Michelle Obama, by Essence Magazine. This has all led to her being awarded over $100,000 in scholarships, sharing the stage with "A" list celebrities, being featured in the national media, and starring in a national campaign commercial with Mark Wahlberg.

Dr. Wilson has served as EVIT’s interim superintendent since January. He was appointed as Superintendent in July, 2019. He has worked in Arizona public education for 25 years as a middle school history teacher, principal, associate superintendent and superintendent.

Born and raised in Tucson, Dr. Wilson’s doctoral degree from the University of Arizona is in education policy and administration. He also holds a master’s degree from Northern Arizona University and bachelor’s from UofA.

Dr. Wilson and his family reside in Scottsdale.

EVIT is Arizona’s oldest public Career Technical Education District (CTED), providing career training to high school students and adults in 11 East Valley communities. EVIT operates two central campuses in Mesa, branch campuses at Apache Junction High School and in Fountain Hills, and provides funding for satellite CTE programs in East Valley high schools.

She received her Bachelors of Science in Business Education from the University of Illinois and has completed coursework towards her Masters in Organization Development. Jude has over 20 years working in all general areas of human resources which has given her a deep understanding of how organizations can rise or fall based on how well strategic and tactical human resource goals are developed and achieved. As a Human Resource Consultant for various public and private entities she has advised business owners and management on the development of human resource policies and procedures, employee handbook verbiage and appropriate job descriptions and workflow process changes that led to a 30% reduction in turnover.

She has conducted over 50 compensation and classification studies and FLSA audits of exempt and non-exempt positions for the public sector and over 20 for the private sector. She has mentored, taught and coached other Human Resource professionals. Jude recognizes Human Resource needs within all sizes and types of organizations and assists in implementing the appropriate level of human resource functions within growing organizations. She consistently helps business owners find the right balance between employment law compliance and financial and overall business success.

Oceans of Opportunities, a virtual Human Resource Consulting firm was started in Iowa in 2000. In 2004, it relocated to the Phoenix area but was somewhat dormant until 2010 when need for Human Resource services of small and mid-sized businesses increased.
