Welcome to you daily examen.

The examen is a spiritual formation tool for self-reflection. It can be used daily, weekly, or even monthly. Like a date night with your significant other, the answer to “how often?” really is: As often as you want. As often as helps. All healthy relationships require intentionality. They never just happen. Why wouldn’t you want to check in with God daily?

Living as a follower of Jesus in today's world is like swimming
against a powerful current. It's a journey that demands constant reminders, instruction, and encouragement. Why? Because as followers of Christ, we are called to embrace and embody a set of principles and values that often stand in stark contrast to those promoted by society. This reality necessitates the support of fellow believers as we navigate this challenging and sometimes
perilous path upstream.

The examen is a spiritual formation tool for self-reflection. It can be used daily, weekly, or even monthly. The frequency is not important. Nurturing one’s relationship with God is. Like date night with your significant other, the answer to “how often?” really is: As often as you want. As often as helps. All healthy relationships require intentionality. They never just happen. Why wouldn’t you want to check in with God daily?

The world is a noisy place, full of activity and it can be hard to notice God throughout our day. My hope is that through these podcast episodes you will practice a preference for God and become more attentive and responsive to his constant invitation.

A five-step routine for our daily Examen to remember the five steps:

Request the Spirit to lead me through my review
of the day.

Relish the moments that went well and all the
gifts I have today.

Review the day.

Repent of any mistakes or failures.

Resolve, in concrete ways, to live tomorrow well.

Additional Questions:

Have I let fear guide my actions?

Where have I experienced the freedom in Christ today?

Did I waste time when I could have been spending more time
reading God's word?

Did I put God first today, make time for prayer, remember to
offer Him my joys and sufferings?

Did I make time to rest, pray, and spend time with my
family?

God, where did I see you in my home? In my daily chores? In
my morning routines?

God, where did I see you on my commute? In the day's comings
and goings?

Where did I encounter you in my meals, shared or alone,
quick or leisurely?

Where was I ungrateful?

Where did I pass by too quickly?

Where did I miss your presence?

When did I fail to love others as you love me?

With regards to social media and the digital life:

How are you called to respond in productive ways to what you
witness?

Do you feel pressured to nonetheless? Feeling driven by the
flesh or led by the Spirit?

With your own media - In your own words and images, do you
share something good and true, or do you tear others down or point only to
yourself?

Are you obsessed over clicks, likes and retweets?

Do you share only to boost your own ego or “Personal Brand” ?

How are you contributing to a culture that refuses to take a
“long, loving look at the real?” What feelings are you trying to stir in
others?

From Goal-Setting to Soul-Posturing: Welcoming the New Year with God's Promises

On today's episode I'm reading an excerpt from my own personal journal from December 31st, 2023.

To ponder and contemplate, my death can open a door to a revolution of my mind, my heart, my soul, and how I treat others. Numbering my days and remembering that my life is short is wisdom. It reveals my weaknesses where my preparation is faulty, and it leaves time to change and participate with God in the world and in my own heart.

The world is a noisy place, full of activity and it can be hard to notice God throughout our day. My hope is that through these podcast episodes you will practice a preference for God and become more attentive and responsive to his constant invitation.

Welcome to Season 2 of The Living Centered Podcast: Beyond Vacation: Finding Genuine Rest in the Midst of Life's Hustle.

I think we in the west have a strange understanding of Rest. When we think about rest it’s generally maybe binging Netflix, drinking too much, eating too much maybe, kicking our feet up. Defending our time or what we think is rest just isn’t. For example, I hear the mantra every summer from friends who come back from vacation and what they say most often is “I need a vacation from my vacation.” If we are apprenticing under Jesus and learning his way can we find and recover our strength and souls?

The world is a noisy place, full of activity and it can be hard to notice God throughout our day. My hope is that through these podcast episodes you will practice a preference for God and become more attentive and responsive to his constant invitation.

You are listening to the Living Centered Podcast. The world is a noisy place, full of activity and it can be hard to notice God throughout our day. My hope is that through these podcast episodes you will practice a preference for God and become more attentive and responsive to his constant invitation.

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?

Spiritual direction is an ancient Christian practice of spiritual companionship. Spiritual directors are trusted companions on your journey to understand yourself and God more fully. They are trained to be compassionate listeners who help you recognize and respond to God’s presence in your life.

What I believe: The supreme standard for faith and practice is the Bible, received as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. As a Reformed Presbyterian I also follow the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. To simply state it I think the Apostles Creed expresses it best.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

ABOUT & CONTACT
Gordon Collier, Spiritual Director

Contact: livingcentered22@gmail.com

What I believe: The supreme standard for faith and practice is the Bible, received as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. As a Reformed Presbyterian I also follow the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. To simply state it I think the Apostles Creed expresses it best.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

ABOUT & CONTACT
Gordon Collier, Spiritual Director
Husband, Father to two grown adults and former corporate professional
Contact: livingcentered22@gmail.com

What I believe: The supreme standard for faith and practice is the Bible, received as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. As a Reformed Presbyterian I also follow the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. To simply state it I think the Apostles Creed expresses it best.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

What I believe:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
