We do our best to cover round 1 including a key match up between the Varsity Club vs Ron Simmons and Dr Death. The Prince of Darkness match between Jimmy Garvin and Kevin Sullivan has dire consequences for the event. NWA April 1988 Part 2 and a half - The Fall of the Twin Towers

The final push to the Crockett Cup is heating up. Barry Windham looks for revenge against Tully Blanchard in a one-on-one match. Their friends get involved which leads to a follow up tag match but not with the partner you expect. Everyone wants a piece of the Midnight Rider. The main course for this whole stretch is served up in the form of a tag team title defence. The Twin Towers of Luger & Windham put the titles on the line against the former champs the Horsemen. The result leads to one of the most important moments in late 80's NWA history.

The decision on the suspension of Dusty Rhodes and the future of the US Title are revealed. A new "young" wrestler debuts on his horse with a memorable vignette. The NWA managers and heels are up in arms about this dangerous newcomer. The road to Crockett Cup is clear. Double A - Arn Anderson takes on Dr Death Steve Williams and we have a fun corrections section.

The TV title is defended in a special Amateur Rules match, the US Tag Titles are up for grabs in a wild Memphis Wrestling style brawl & we wrap up part 1 with a blood feud. The Road Warriors and Dusty Rhodes take on the Powers of Pain and Ivan Koloff in a 6-man Barb Wire Match. Pay back for the weightlifting treachery is on tap.

While we were deprived of this channel as kids and forced to wait quite a while to finally see the card it is a pivotal night for the wrestling business. On this episode we focus on the first half of the card. A battle of the Rick's as the Dragon takes on the Ravishing One, Bravo tries to set a World Bench Press record & the Women's Tag Team Titles are up for grabs in a best 2 out of 3 falls match that just might steal the show. We close out this week with a fantasy re-imagining of the first ever house show Royal Rumble in St Louis from October 1987. Since that match was botched in reality we give it a new coat of paint.

To help celebrate the holidays the Legendary Wrestling Obsession Podcast is taking a trip back to the a comfy Christmas night in 1982 at Reunion Arena in Dallas. It's Christmas Star Wars, Texas style! The NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair is in town to defend his crown against Kerry Von Erich as they continue their feud and the long chase for the family to capture the title. Kevin defends his American Heavyweight Championship against Bundy, we see a crazy Battle Royal with a Pole stipulation and the finals of a tournament to crown the first ever 6 Man Tag Champions. We talk a little about the actual Star Wars. It's a great way to close out the first calendar year of our show. It's the start of the long road to Wrestlemania III and a classic SNME from Detroit. Before we can get there we have to follow the critical developments of January and early February 1987. Piper's Pit becomes the focal point of Andre's return and the first hints of the match of the century. The British Bulldogs defend their belts against the Hart Foundation AND Danny Davis and we wrap the show up with an entertaining tag match with Hogan and Steamboat facing Savage and the Honky Tonk Man. It's part 1 of 3 on our way to the Silverdome!

Road to the 1986 Great American Bash

Summer may be over for real but things are just heating up at the Legendary Wrestling Obsession podcast. We track a handful of hot feuds as JCP storms towards their second season of "Bash" cards in arenas and stadiums around the country. Ric Flair and the Horsemen try to eliminate Ricky Morton, Magnum TA and Nikita are on a collision course for the United States title, at the same time the Russians and Road Warriors aren't done with each other, the Midnight Express has a ton of trouble with the James Boys and the Horsemen do the unthinkable... they lay out the Road Warriors. This all culminates with the July 1st main event of Flair vs Hawk! The first of 14 scheduled title defences for the tour.

It's the set up episode to a record setting outdoor show in Canada. Follow the WWF through the summer of 1986 on the way to the largest attendance at a wrestling show in history (to that point). There's so much happening that we can't even mention it all including: Gene on the hunt for the Machines, heel vs heel tag team matches, Savage defends his IC title against Mr Wonderful and Geoff coins the phrase for some new "patented" wrestling terms.

Note: "The Clothesline Heard Around the World" is such a large story line that it deserved it's own episode. We'll be releasing the Hogan/Orndorff saga separately on our Patreon channel!
