Between slightly premature wedding planning with Christine and David to Meri not taking any shit from Kody, frankly, not a lot happened during this episode. We did get some decent discussion about the history of this family, most of it was just Kody being repetitive and cringy, and the rest actually being retrospective about what has happened over the past decade of their lives.

The besties don’t take too long before diving into another insane episode of Sister Wives. It’s Christmas time again, and where most of the family is learning to deal with the new normal of the holidays, Kody decides to have one final ‘chat’ with Meri about their divorce. It’s probably one of the most disgusting conversations ever to be captured by reality tv show cameras. Like, can Kody never again say the word orgasm? But the besties agreed that Meri held her ground and showed some great positive growth. And news flash Kody, no one would ever intentionally make you love them, you’re gross.

The besties discuss all the jaw-dropping scenes and lines from this week’s episode. From oversharing on medical procedures to unintentionally setting your friends up to fight with their spouses, this episode wasn’t exactly a great example of what female friendships can be. We see more of Dakota and Taylor arguing and continuing their toxic behavior making everyone around them uncomfortable. The wives head to Vegas which brings nothing but trouble for poor Jen.

Mel & Jill dive into the aptly named ‘The Year of Release’ episode and discuss Kody’s inability to have relationships with pretty much anyone. The besties are also grossed out by the picture of the placenta - we did not need that TLC. They empathize with Gabriel trying to navigate the rough waters of a difficult relationship with a parent, but pause briefly to feel happy for Meri getting her release. The ladies end the pod by ranting about just how far Kody has fallen, and the weirdness of wanting to film yourself as you cry in a bathroom.

The besties jump right into the fifth episode of this slightly different Mormon show. From rotting their teeth at a soda shop to planning the death of a marriage, most of the group has come out of the tumultuous girls trip with big plans. Except for Whitney, who has chosen to be a whiny baby about literally everything. Just when you think things might be normal, Taylor tries to make Dakota and Mayci play nice at a work event (not cool bro), and then she and Dakota force Mayci to become the unintentional (and very awkward) therapist.

After the birth of the twins, both Christine and Robyn come together into a cordial partnership to help Mykelti get used to being a mom of 3. What really matters in this episode is a huge fight between Robyn and Kody over his relationships (or lack thereof) with his kids. Robyn actually makes several good points, but by the end, Kody just goes back to the same ol’ bullshit.

This episode of the Mormon Wives left the besties with whiplash. Accusations and hurt feelings were everywhere on what was supposed to be Mayci’s birthday girls trip. Demi gets into it with several of the ladies, but Whitney really takes the cake with the level of drama. Girl refuses to be held accountable.

The crew talks some TikTok drama, the new season of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and sad Danny Riccardo. They did also almost digress but they did eventually get into the latest episode of Sister Wives. Essentially, Kody wanted to dip out of Logan’s wedding because he’s incapable of being around other humans (happens when you’re a robot troll), Robyn doesn’t know how to parent her children, and McKelti finally has the twins (much to Jill’s annoyance and relief).

The besties are still in agreement that Whitney is the worst even though she clearly thinks she’s the queen bee of Mormon MomTok. Who needs enemies when you have friends like these ladies. From tasteless jokes to disrespectful actions, this group seems more divided than together. And Jill’s pretty confident they’re all rotting their teeth out of their mouths with the amount of soda they drink.

The besties then dive into the second episode of Sister Wives. Kody continues to be just the worst husband, father, human in existence. Christine is up to her classic antics of throwing a party for any and all occasions, whereas Janelle begins exploring what her options might be after Flagstaff and Kody. Then the besties dive into the second episode of this Hulu Original. With a major time jump, there’s a lot of catching up to do. From Whitney desperately trying to establish herself as HBIC to Taylor’s messy life, the women in Utah seem to have very few ducks in a row. Oh, and the besties are both anti-Taylor’s mom.

Season 19 of Sister Wives has arrived! Meri, Janelle, and Christine have clearly all moved on and are happier because of it, while Kody and Robyn seem to just want to be miserable together forever. From baby sprinkles to cross-country moves, the rest of the family is working together to support each other. Meri gets a little spicy in her confessionals and discusses the ending of her relationship with Kody with her friend Brandy. Frankly, we’re all Brandy’s ready to shout from the rooftops that Meri is finally free of one of the most dysfunctional relationships to ever grace our televisions.

Needless to say, the actual episode of The Valley was a bit of a snooze fest. All that really happened is the ‘fallout’ from the racist Republican argument from the previous two episodes, and a couple of flashes of family life for Nia & Danny and Jax & Brittany. Both the Besties walked away just hoping for a new storyline in episode 5.

Mel gives us the Film Student run down of the movie while Jill tells us her embarrassing Jaws secret and lectures everyone about having a healthy fear of the ocean. From editing to music, the film doesn’t disappoint. It’s known for the first-ever summer blockbuster for a reason!

We end the episode gushing about the upcoming Olympics!

The major plot points of episode 3 are essentially couples counseling with Michelle & Jesse and the ‘Racist Republican’ accusations against Michelle. The besties were cautious of the ‘life coach’ that Michelle and Jesse brought in, but he actually ended up being a good option for the two of them. The ‘Racist Republican’ fight culminates at a ‘Capri’ themed party where things get extra spicy between Michelle, Janet, Jesse, Kristen, and Luke. There may or may not be an Olympic digress session for your listening pleasure sprinkled in the middle of that episode.

The Sandlot brings out all the nostalgic feels in the besties. We gush over our favorite characters and scenes of this beloved cult classic. This leads into the clearly inevitable digression into our general love of baseball. From iconic lines to an all-star adult cast, The Sandlot is the perfect summertime feel-good movie.

The episode revolved around 3 major plot arcs this episode - The titty twister incident, the pantsing, and the Luke v. Alex situation. All of these are honestly, pretty childish. But are we really surprised given the cast members involved with these incidents? Not in the least. Mel has an insane endgame theory that Jill just cannot get on board with.

The Goonies is definitely a favorite of the Besties, but especially Jill who may or may not watch the movie on a fairly regular basis. We talk about the epic cast & EPs, why we think it has stood the test of time as a cult classic, and how the movie has influenced others. This might have lead to a couple of random digresses about movie popcorn, buying Blu-Rays again, and just our love of 80s movies in general. The trip down Nostalgia lane was well deserved by the Besties, and remember - Goonies never say die!

The besties are kicking off a new re-watch series with… drumroll… the Valley. It’s a great foundation episode where we meet the cast and get a peek into the possible overarching storylines that we’ll see this season. Jax talks about Kristen, her relationship, her ex’s, and her actively trying for a baby with her long-distance boyfriend the ENTIRE episode. We also see more than one of the husbands in this group really fall short of their job as husband/father. And we wrap the episode with an incredibly childish pantsing.

Mel & Jill discuss Dune 2 and all of the intricacies that come with it… well obviously not ALL of them… but some. From the unique cinematic choices to the themes of religion, the second Dune movie has a lot of fascinating things to discuss from this film. With slight changes from page to screen, the Besties discuss some of their favorite elements and moments from the movie.

The Besties kick off this episode with a ‘draft’ of our favorite male celebrities we’d leave our drinks with. Wholesome fun abounds. And we quickly discuss Lewis Hamilton being on Hot Ones (go watch it!), and a couple of other random things.

Then we dive right into Dune, Part 1. This epic sci-fi film has been a challenge to bring to the big screen, but the Besties agree that Denis Villeneuve did a fabulous job. From talking the craziness of Dune lore (giant worms are a big deal), to a minor (okay, pretty major), digress into the Star Wars universe, the Besties discuss all aspects of this 2021 film.

The besties get down to brass tacks with the final part of the reunion for season 11 of VPR. The reunion covers a lot of ground throughout the season. Interesting conversations are had with the cast that include Jax & Brittney, the ‘one who got away’ for Schwartz, and just about every cast member’s relationship with Sandoval. Has he seen the error of his ways? Nope. By far the most emotional aspect of the episode is when Lala doubles down on her rant about Ariana.

The besties discuss the future of VPR and if they would even watch if there was a season 12. Who knows… maybe we’ll get the James & Ally spinoff we’ve all been dreaming of.

Then they dive right into chapter 46 of Iron Flame. The plot finally starts to pick up and a lot of things happen in a short period of time. Cat and Violet get into a fight (this time in the sparring gym), we have a very nice spicy scene in a throne room, and Violet goes back to her roots and starts at the beginning. The war is intensifying and Violet is desperate to get the wards up, but there’s a new cost to that plan - the gryphon riders. We do get a bit closer on the process to actually raise the wards, but they’re all still missing some crucial information that happens to be right in front of their faces (literally).

Part 2 of the reunion covers a lot of ground from the season. The cast examines their friendships, boundaries, and relationships with each other. We learn more about Jo and what the cast really thinks about her and Schwartz’s relationship. Ally & James get a good chunk of the episode, which really highlights their strength as a couple, but also his growth as a person. Who would have thought that back in Season 1 we would be seeing a sober VPR cast and water tastings? Probably for the better… Anne gets a bullet point in the episode, which we love. We end on the Attempted Dog Murder incident and the custody of pets. Per usual, James punctuates the final moments of the episode with his quick wit.

The reunion starts off per usual with a mini update from the cast, but Mel & Jill jump right to the legal stuff. They can’t talk about it, we know they can’t talk about it, so why are we asking them about it? Various topics are covered on the reunion from the typical fluff of ‘your rooms are messy’ to incredibly heavy mental health conversations. The real meat of the reunion comes at the end when Lala and Katie discuss their issues during the season. Mel and Jill break down why they think the cast should drop the 4th wall act and come out and say what they are all dancing around… most of them were jealous and worried for their jobs and were angry when Katie and Ariana refused to jump on the Sandoval train. Bravo already broke the 4th wall, they should just run with it.

Episode 9 is our only real glance and Red Bull, but mostly focusing on Alpha Tauri (today known as RB Cash App). Unfortunately, just a few races after getting the set at Alpha Tauri, Danny’s in a crash, which was not his fault, and breaks his wrist and is out for 6 weeks. Enter Liam Lawson, who honestly does a great job. There’s a ton of rumors that they may not bring Danny back, but ultimately they do. It’s only a matter of time Liam!

Episode 10 is the big conclusion to the season, and ‘big’ is a very generous word. Most of the season is pretty lackluster at best thanks to Max’s dominance, so Netflix focus the episode on the shitshow that was the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Between track issues (poor Carlos), to a generally unexciting race, the third US race left a lot to be desired. But we jump to Abu Dhabi where honestly, nothing really happens. And they give Guenther a terrible send off.

The gang is still in San Francisco and the whisky launch party is just around the corner, but first… Dan’s interrogation with the cast, minus Sandoval. We have another awkward encounter with ‘Joseph’ and ‘T-Money’ aka the most awkward non-couple to ever exist. (Jill gets second-hand cringe its so bad.) James & Ally have the sweetest moment discussing their relationship and the besties reflect on just how much James has really grown. Several fights ensue including Jo & Katie, and rando drunk guy, and more. Scheana shoves her lack of musical abilities down the audience’s throat while Mel takes great issue with her outfit choices.

The real meat of the episode happens at the end where we see Ariana stand up for herself while maintaining her boundaries and Sandoval continues to act like a worm. It feels like a goodbye to VPR… because really… WTF was that shit?

Episode 7 takes us back to Alpine and the many, many issues they were having in 2023. Otmar continues to live in delulu land about the state of the team, and it only lasts so long. They literally fire him mid-race weekend (yikes) after they had two double DNFs in a row. But cue Bruno who comes in and seems to put a few things together, mainly forcing Ocon and Gasley to bury their beef in the past where it belongs. And the first race after bringing in Bruno, Alpine gets double points (too bad it didn’t last).

Episode 8 is all about the intensity that surrounds Ferrari. With bringing in a new team principal, and the car struggle, the fans of Ferrari are skeptical at best about the future of Ferrari. As the oldest team in F1, there’s a lot of reputation to live up to. But the silly little french man might be the best thing that’s ever happened to Ferrari.

Somehow, the entire episode seems to be about Scheana without actually being about Scheana. We spend the better part of the episode getting ready to go to San Francisco for Kyle Chan’s launch and the rest of the episode having forgiveness forced onto our eyeballs. Bravo - please, we would really rather not watch someone turn her back on the person who has actually been a friend to her. We get a much-needed update on Something About Her and FINALLY get to see Dan on camera. Sandoval continues to be Sandoval. Schwartz makes some bold moves while also giving Jo mixed signals.

The besties wrap up the episode with some current VPR news and their thoughts on the future of Season 12, VPR in general, and the fate of the cast after the show ends.

The besties start with chapter 43 where Tairn drops some important knowledge that no one else seems to take seriously while the flyers and riders complete their ascent on the Cliffs of Dralor. Violet tries to help Luella, ultimately causing Ridoc to get shot. Luella loses her grip and the wyverns attach and make a nice little snack of her gryphon. This doesn’t go over well with Cat and her crew who handle death very differently than the riders. Violet has an electrifying hunch which pays off in the end. Professor Trissa gives everyone a lesson on runes, and what they can really do.

This episode was a weird mish-mash of mature relationships and confrontations ending in an epic fight. James and Ally try to find Hippie a dog-sitter James is comfortable with so he can go with Ally to her best friend’s wedding. So far, no one is good enough for James. We see an interesting dynamic between Katie & Schwartz begin to develop. He’s clearly not over her. The real stars of the were Scheana, Brock, and Jax. Brock & Scheana are actually an adorable couple who clearly care about each other. Unfortunately, Sheana can’t let her control issues go and it is causing a strain on their marriage and Brock. Jax comes in guns blazing ready for a fight, but ultimately we see his mommy issues play out with LVP. And of course, the big blow up at the end between Sandoval and Scheana. Too bad we couldn’t have gotten the Spice Girls Edit.

This episode of VPR honestly felt like yet another filler episode. The truth comes out about the Tom/Ariana house situation (spoiler alert - Ariana was right). Lala picks her sperm donor, and Sandoval asks Schwartz to be his roommate, which he promptly declines. The Katie/Lala fight might have found a resolution, and James tells Tom off in a great way but then decides to be a bigger person. James and Ali have a vulnerable moment on camera, and in general, it was a fairly unexciting episode. Hopefully, next week is better.

Let’s be honest, not a ton happens in this episode. The besties are still #TeamAriana and no amount of bad editing will change our minds. However, we jump back into the super fun beach day. The love triangle between Tori, Katie, and Schwartz is finally revealed. Jo & Lala meet up at a hot dog stand where she gives her side of the story on her & Schwartz “relationship.” Singles night leads to the downfall of said relationship.

Somehow the besties then move onto cheese and the regional differences in mexican food. That more understandably moves to weird eating habits. They devolve into tourism and Disney and how much they dislike their respective tourist nonsense.This unfortunately moves to Disney vomit stories and we’re sorry in advance for the yuckiness.

They finally get to what was originally going to be their warm-up topic about how Miriam Margolyes (who played Professor Sprout in Harry Potter) had a very hot take about adults liking Harry Potter.

But we complete the circle with the besties talking about food again by the end.

We begin with chapter 40, and Mel goes into Felix, who he is, where he may have come from, and his opinions on Carr’s teaching abilities. The besties talk through Violet’s absolute lack of knowledge of her own signet and how that differs from the Violet, they knew in Fourth Wing. Violet then makes another dumb decision to do exactly the opposite of what Xaden told her to.

In chapter 41 Jill and Mel talk about how Violet really just ran into this situation completely blind with zero preparation on her part. Xaden beat them there, and the two of them have a whole new reason to argue (about nothing). Violet goes to show off her signet, but is met with a not-so-pleasant surprise. Don’t mind the solid 10 minute tangent about 90’s baseball movies.

In Chapter 42 a little bit of a fight ensues, but they do finally get the deal they need for the luminary. But Brennan maybe makes a huge mistake.

Episode 5 looks at the tension Alpine, mainly between Estie Bestie and Pierre Gasly. They have some bad blood from literally childhood, and the two just straight up don’t get along. Otmar, the Team Principal, really isn’t helping matters either with stupid PR stunts. Things get so bad that the two wreck each other at the third race of the season. There’s pressure from the team CEO about the antics, and frankly, Otmar doesn’t seem to do anything to try and smooth things over between the two drivers. Ultimately, Gasly kinda gets screwed at Monoco.

Episode 6 focuses on Mercedes. After coming off a very challenging season in 2022, Hamilton is starting to show his frustration with the team. When he brings up an issue with the car, he’s pretty much ignored. Toto Wolff and Susie give us a lesson on sportsmanship, while Hamilton continues to get a pretty crummy edit from Netflix. Rumors fly that Hamilton is going to leave Mercedes, but ultimately does resign for 2 more years. We all know how that went.

Needless to say, this was a major filler episode. Essentially, Ariana and Sandoval fought, and everyone else stood back and watched, awkwardly. Oh, and poor Ann got fired. Or did she? At least Katie and Ariana are there with a good job to help a girl out.

Shout out to Lisa and James's mom for being as into all the tea as the rest of us are.

The besties begin Part 2 of Iron Flame and discuss how sibling dynamics, rash teen choices, and early adulthood sex drives can really make for some awkward situations. Andarna finally makes an appearance along with Teine, Mira, and a few other dragons & riders. War college resumes for the cadets, some of whom have a lot of catching up to do. Sibling antics run amok when Mira breaks Brennan’s nose. We see an attempt to raise the wards that ultimately failed, something the Besties think was pretty dang obvious.

Episode 3 focuses on the issues at McLaren, and the introduction of rookie Oscar Piastri. There’s some mixed feelings about Zak Brown, because he can definitely be a jerk, but he has done a few good things. The McLaren’s recognize that their car won’t really be competitive until mid-season. This leads to lots of rumors about if Lando will resign with McLaren, and there’s a lot of interested teams, including Red Bull (sorry Checo). Zak Brown has to do a lot of ass-kissing to get through the rough patch. Once the upgrades are installed, the cars are significantly better.

Episode 4 focuses on Guenther and Haas, and Mel is in her feels. Everything about Haas is bad. The cars are bad, the drivers are good, but they’re struggling this season. Guenther seems pretty over the stress, and Gene Haas. Meanwhile, we’re introduced to the new team principal of Williams, James Vowles. Guenther and Vowles are foils of each other - where Guenther is a classic old-school guy, Vowles is a data guy and more modern. Where Williams also struggles at the beginning of the season, they do improve, whereas Haas doesn’t. Guenther visits Binotto in Italy, and sees what life can look like after Formula One

The episode starts with James dressing Ally and her trying to convince him to curl her hair. (How adorable!) We then hear Tom’s version of the offer he sent Ariana. Meanwhile, Ariana accidentally steals Ann from Sandoval’s employ. Two major secrets are spilled this episode but it’s clear that A LOT of the episode has been orchestrated by production.

The besties return to Iron Flame and pick up at chapter 32 where Violet fills Xaeden on her recruitment of the rest of her friend group and her, the Scoobiest of Scooby Doo plans to steal the journals. They make it out by the skin of their teeth, only for Violet to land herself in an unwinnable situation with Nolan, Varrish, and Nora. She gets a surprise visitor who helps her hold out till Dain & Xaeden show up. We also get a quick backfill of information from Lillith but Jill is still none too pleased with her parenting choices.

The besties dive into some theories right off the bat at the 12 minute mark (spoilers ahead!) about what may be going on beneath the surface with menders. Jack Barlowe is welcomed into Battle Brief with thundering applause, but there’s worse news on the horizon - there’s been an attack at Samara. Violet races to Samara, only to find out that Xaden was wounded, but has been mended. After a spicy conversation, Xaden and Violet end this visit on better terms than they’ve been all book. But upon arriving back in Basgiath, Violet is almost punished (again) by Varrish, but narrowly escapes. She does, however, spill her guts finally to her friends, who end up not being mad and actually helping her. After almost dying again, Violet learns that there are two journals from the original six riders right there in Basgiath, and she knows how to get them.

The besties dive into the first two episodes of season 6 of Drive to Survive! The Stroll’s are trying to make a comeback with the rebranded team of Astin Martin, and might have a good shot with Fernando Alonso behind the wheel. Episode 2 goes into the drama at Alpha Tauri, Nyck de Vries, and Daniel Ricciardo. Nyck has a terrible start to the season, and ultimately looses his seat to Danny.

Jill and Mel discuss the ultimate “Pick Me” girl, Scheana and whether or not she is being a good friend to Ariana. VPR producers continue to shove the Sandoval redemption arc down viewers throats, much to the besties disdain. The besties delve into why Katie and Ally are the audience’s best friends and voice of reason. Lala gives a different, but no less important input on the balance of friendship within the group. The besties wonder if the rest of the season will be able to pass the ‘Sandoval Test.’

The besties dive back into the ever so exciting beginning of Iron Flame, but maybe things are actually starting to get interesting? They dig into chapters 20-24. Xaden and Violet almost have a real conversation about how they feel and what’s going on. We learn a lot more about the alloy and the wards through Mira and Xaden. Mira and Violet have some good sister time, and Violet struggles with keeping secrets from Mira. School almost matters because we learn a lot more about the happenings in the war through mystery missives than actual communication. Violet has her first weird dream - more on that later. The crew has their first interrogation lesson, and it goes off the rails because Varrish is insane, but they end up escaping, earning them a special patch. Mel’s calling out ALL the possible foreshadowing. They go into Battle Brief, and a character from the past comes back, much to the besties’ dismay.

The VPR gang is in Tahoe and… having yoga therapy? Scheana loses her shit and surprise surprise, makes it all about her. Sandoval is continuing to deflect whenever anyone tries to approach him about his behavior. Schwartz is doing his best, but continues to make everything even more awkward. Ariana continues to support Scheana while maintaining her boundaries while working with Katie to get SAH open. Jill and Mel discuss the future of VPR, the ethics of reality TV, holding people accountable while grieving relationships.

VPR is almost trying to redeem Tom Sandoval, and Mel & Jill aren’t having it. The big takeaways - Mel and Jill want more Lala. Scheana actually stands up to Sandoval. Lisa pulls some strings to get Schwartz to invite the crew to Tahoe, and it was a bit of a filler episode getting ready for the big group trip.

Mel & Jill talk some current events, and maybe clown a little bit about a T Swift theory. The talk the new Nickelodeon documentary that looks mildly sad and a lot disturbing. Disney also dropped an enormous amount of updates last week. And then we get into the unintentional silly season with F1 right now. We also get a little update on where Jill is at in reading the Throne of Glass series.

Skip the chit chat and jump ahead to the 14:30 mark.

Upon a truly classic shadow daddy dramatic entrance, Xaden, Violet, and the rest of the crew begin the weaving of truth and lies to explain their absence. Violet has some interesting moments with her mom, and straight up yells in Dain’s face (very satisfying to say the least). Xaden heads off to his first duty station, and Rhiannon is named Squad Leader. Violet is still just made at the world. We learn about the big secret of second year - Rider Survival Course. Mel is not a fan. Violet heads down to the Archives to see if Jesinia will help her learn more about the wards around Basgiath.

The Bog of Oorid is gross as hell, and it’s all around terrible. A fight ensues, but Nesta finds the mask. Nesta continues her training, and more and more priestesses join. Nesta unintentionally imbues some weapons with a little bit of magic (whoops!), and Gwyn teaches them to meditate. For some reason Rhys becomes a big secret keeper and doesn’t want to tell Nesta about the weapons (or the fact that the baby has wings). Cassian takes Nesta for a hike through the mountains, and it truly changes everything. Both Mel and Jill get a little emotional about how much this book means to them.         

Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani star in this fast-paced rom-com about a couple that ends their relationship only to be thrust into a night of high jinx. The couple must work together to clear their names, and they may just fall back in love in the process. Join the besties as they talk about this fun ride of a movie, and a rom-com that Jill didn’t hate!

Jill and Mel explain the reason behind starting with Season 3, their racing background/knowledge, and how Drive To Survive introduced them into the world of Formula 1 racing. They speed head-first into the drama between race teams, team principals, and drivers of one of the world’s most exciting motorsports.

Season 3 of DTS covers the 2020 F1 season. Jill explains some F1 basics and rules and some things to remember about how DTS is edited and how the episodes are presented. Jill and Mel plan to keep this surface-level discussion of F1 because they are both relatively new F1 fans and there are so many things to consider, engineering, tire strategy, etc. that are extremely complicated.

Mel and Jill go through each episode,  discussing the highs and lows. Their favorite drivers are team principles. Who’s the villain? Who’s the hero? Who wins the World Championship and the Constructor’s Cup?
