The Farseer ability runs strongly in Fitz and his prior training has made him a great student with a determination to learn his magical inheritance. Galen attacks Fitz and leaves him at a very dark and low place, thinking he will never see his hated student alive again. A brave pup enters the story and along with The Fool and Burrich, Fitz is on his way to continue learning.

Patience and Lacey take over his room and his health while also steering Fitz straight about his relationship with Molly. His life is not his own and belongs to King Shrewd. Over the course of the first half of this chapter, that simple fact is hammered into him by Patience and Chade. Join us in our discussion of Patience’s motivations, thoughts, and relationships with Chivalry and Fitz, and the parallels that appear between past events and the present.

Chade knows that misery loves company and offers the fact that a Queen-in-Waiting can be a powerful ally. Discouraged from those talks and angered by the realization that his life isn’t his own to control, he walks down to Buckkeep Town. Anger built upon anger at being caged leads Fitz like a hound to a quarry. He meets a new friend.

Our beloved, if somewhat dense, main character is in a big depressed funk thinking about his inability to see Molly. He can’t keep his mind on any tasks and ends up creeping on Molly’s world, but maintains his word to Patience and Chade. After Burrich snaps him out of it with a night of drinking and conversation, Fitz becomes a better companion and advisor to Queen-in-Waiting Kettricken, regains stamina, and cleans up. Robin Hobb introduces us to more characters and plot lines with future importance like a secret spy and the ruling family of Bearns. Fitz is once again called upon by King Shrew to dole out the King’s Justice in Bearns duchy and finds admirers that send a chill down his spine. This week we discuss Fitz’s stalking habits, his need for a bath, loneliness, and loyalty.

Ep. 033 - Ch. 6 Royal Assassin - Forged Ones

Concerned with his loved ones’ safety, FitzChivalry heads to Patience and Lacey’s room to try and safeguard them from potential attacks. They talk about protection and Fitz embarrasses himself, as usual, before he moves on to find Kettricken. What comes next is a wild goose chase around the keep to find his Queen-in-Waiting. An awkward conversation, a mule ride in a snow storm, a jealous look, and a promise of meat later, and Fitz is walking toward the abandoned house and a wolf cub. He has to confront who he really is and make a decision that affects his future forever.

Ep. 037 - Ch. 10 Royal Assassin - Fool's Errand

In this week of Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings, Fitz is handed the responsibility for a new Queen's Guard and with the mounting frustration of so many relationships pulling him in different directions, it's only a matter of time before he snaps. Pining after Molly and stressing over cheering Kettricken up, he is beset upon by the Fool. We learn the future and get some foreshadowing in a ballad, leaving Fitz embarrassed and frustrated, of course. Zen Kettricken somewhat calms FitzChivalry down until he learns she can use the Wit and others might be able to discover his secret.

Ep. 038 - Ch. 11 Royal Assassin - Lone Wolves

This week we discuss two important scenes. The first is a moment we've been waiting for, FitzChivalry has a confrontation with Nighteyes that ultimately brings them closer together. They talk about another task for Fitz, missing magic users, and the mythical Elderlings.

However, this plan is delayed by a terrible encounter in the woods. This week we talk more about the Skill, the Farseers desire to help their people, and the horrors of the Forged Ones.

Ep. 041 - Ch. 14 Royal Assassin - Winterfest

Fitz has a list of tasks to accomplish this episode but he is interrupted in the night by Molly, in the morning by Burrich, and finally by the Fool. The last visitor uses all of his wiles to convince Fitz to help him out and let him read Verity's scrolls about the Elderlings and the missing Skill users. After Fitz leaves him, he completes his first axe lesson with Verity riding in his head. Fitz and Verity-as-Ridealong Creeper head to wait on King Shrewd. Finding it a mess and Shrewd in a bad state, Fitz decides to clean up a bit. We discuss how Robin Hobb lays out a framework for the rest of the trilogy and the unfortunate situations arising.

Ep. 042 - Ch. 15 Royal Assassin - Secrets

This episode is our first insight into the Fool's origins, even if they're a watered-down version of events. Fitz, of course, is confused and doesn't believe him even when spoken to plainly. He succumbs to his rash decisions from last chapter, and we also see the consequences of messing with drugs. Exhausted, Fitz finally clicks with Verity and gets the war put into a different perspective.

Ep. 043 - Ch. 16 Part 1 Royal Assassin - Verity's Ships

This is part one of our discussion of this chapter. By taking on a lot of new responsibilities, FitzChivalry has to deal with a very busy schedule. He tries to balance all of his tasks and obligations to his loved ones while learning more of the Skill, the ax, his bond with Nighteyes, and eventually how to row. At Verity's behest, Fitz joins the crew of one of the warships and gets even busier, but eventually has the opportunity to ask King Shrewd about a certain marriage proposal.

Ep. 044 - Ch. 16 Part 2 Royal Assassin - Verity’s Ships

We pick up with the crew of the Rurisk sailing to Antler Island. After a bloody victory, Fitz has to deal with the reality of war and his future on the seas. The summer is ultimately fruitless for the Six Duchies and their warships. They have a few more encounters with the Red Ship Raiders, and Fitz comes face to face with Kebel Rawbread and the White Ship. A summer apart also leads to some friction with Molly.

After a few important conversations, Fitz is left with another harsh reality check of who his life belongs to and how his birth affects his future.

Verity learns the depth of Kettricken's feelings for him, Fitz learns more about sacrifices Molly makes for their relationship, and both Regal and the Fool end up very happy.

FitzChivalry passively observes a worsening situation at Buckkeep with an increase in rumors badmouthing Verity, parties wasting money, and a breakdown of the coast defenses. A large raid is heard of days late with no warning from any of their failsafes and it's all being blamed on Verity. With minimal contact through the Skill with Verity, Fitz and Kettricken have to navigate this by themselves.

Duke Brawndy arrives looking for answers that the King cannot provide. Queen-in-Waiting Kettricken seeks to assuage his anger and worry and tries her best to make Brawndy feel heard. She seems to gain an ally, but Brawndy still leaves angry at the crown. When Fitz visits King Shrewd, we learn how bad his disease and awareness really is. Through a haze of pain, and with a Skill connection, Shrewd connects with Verity briefly. However, the effort leaves both Shrewd and Fitz exhausted. While in bed recovering from the pain, FitzChivalry is barged in on and assaulted by the Coterie and protected by his pack.

After some time, Fitz gets an urgent call to go to the stables where Burrich has returned with severe injuries. Fitz gathers Patience and Lacey to help look after Burrich when Kettricken comes in with some happy news.

Fitz uneasily settles into a routine around Buckkeep, avoiding most everyone and falling deeper into paranoia. An unsettling wake-up call has Fitz running to the King’s chambers to warn him of an attack on Neatbay. Although Shrewd is in pain, he grasps the situation and, despite Regal’s insistence otherwise, deploys aid to the attacked Duchy. Kettricken, Burrich, and Fitz ride and pin the OutIslanders against the keep’s walls and clear out the attackers after a sudden battle. After, Fitz seems to be associated more closely with Nighteyes than ever in the eyes of the soldiers. A year of episodes and Fitz is still not happy. Thank you everyone for sticking with us.

The announcement of the abandonment of Buckkeep to Tradeford happens and we start to witness the full rule of King-in-Waiting Regal.

Stopping by Patience and Lacey, Fitz learns about a fall on the stairs and goes to investigate.
