2. Puck Movement: A skilled skater on defense can start breakouts, make precise passes, and contribute to offensive players by carrying the puck up the ice. This enhances the team's ability to control the game.

3. Versatility: Players who can excel in different positions add versatility to the team. Injuries or specific game situations may require players to adapt to different roles.

4. Defensive Responsibility: Being a better skater doesn't mean sacrificing defensive responsibility. A strong defensive player can also help protect the teams goal while contributing offensively.

5. Coach's strategy: The decision might align with the coach's overall strategy or the team's specific needs, which can change from game to game.

Ultimately, moving a top offensive player to defense can enhance the overall team dynamics and improve their chances of success, especially if the player can effectively balance offensive and defensive duties from the blue line.
