<itunes:summary>This series of podcasts is dedicated to all the musicians I’ve met and interviewed since my early days as a rock jock in San Francisco in the 80s. We flashback to classic interviews done back in the day with Van Halen, Grace Slick, Night Ranger and brand new interviews with artists like Dave Meniketti of Y&T, Mr. Big’s Eric Martin, and since I am a musician myself with my own band, the SGB, I sometimes feature original songs that are getting internet airplay today on channels like Famous Hits Live.

With multiple albums, hit singles, a long running Morning Radio show and later as a novelist, Greg shared his creative talents with the world. During the 80s when I was on the air in SF Radio and with my TV series San Francisco Hot Rock, I interviewed Greg several times, and saw him live with the Greg Kihn Band many times at places like the Stone in SF and the Keystone in Palo Alto. He was always a kind, fun, thoughtful "regular guy" until he hit the stage, and then he was a rock star. With his passing recently, we asked Greg Kihn Band drummer Larry Lynch and Music Journalist Joel Selvin to join us to celebrate the life and music of Greg Kihn, including a rare interview I did with him in 1984 where he talks about his songwriting, the songs Jeopardy and Reunited. We dedicate this show to Greg's Family, the band, and to his fans worldwide.

Eric talks about the stories behind the songs, the band's decision to make this the last album and tour, an exciting side project with Night Ranger's Jack Blades, and a very personal reveal about becoming single again. We also preview songs from the new album, a triumphant incredible collection of riff rock and bluesy rock, reminiscent of the hard rockin' blues sound of the 70s, but still totally Mr. Big. Eric's vocals are in fine shape, the shredding of Paul Gilbert is also on full display, and the thumbing Bass and Drums with new Drummer Nick Virgilio is in full force on this album! Plus we get the story behind some of the new songs on the Album!

Night Ranger's newest LP, "ATBPO" is in my opinion one of their best LPS in the band's career, listen to "Breakout", the first single and you will agree this LP is a MUST HAVE! It's out now on Frontiers Music SRL- Get the album today and find out Night Ranger's tour dates at: www.nightranger.com

It was a pleasure catching back up with Brad, we have known each other since 1982, when the band first came up to the rock station in San Francisco where I was the Nighttime DJ, they came on the air, and thanked me for playing the hell out of their album, LOL- and we have all been friends ever since. They appeared several times on my 80s TV series "San Francisco Hot Rock as well, and through the 2000s have always been generous with their time- and I thank them all for their friendship.

Listen, enjoy, and Keep Rockin'!

They also appeared on my HOT ROCK TV show in '84 several times, and in this special we play back some of the best moments from those lost 80s interviews, as Rock in America and Sister Christian we're just getting released, and play back some of those top early songs that are now legendary Night Ranger Faves. They have a new LP called "ATBPO", learn more about it, along with the band's tour dates here: www.nightranger.com If you want more, see a mash up video of their TV appearances from the 80s with me on our Video Archives page at www.hotrockpodcast.com . Big thanks to all the guys past and present in the band for their continuing friendship that is still strong today- and the incredible music they've created that has become a big part of our rock n roll life.

In the 80s I was on the air in San Francisco, playing some of the best rock ever created on radio and on TV when MTV and other network music video shows like mine were cranking out all the latest rock videos. Meantime, my own band was in the studio in the 80s, writing and recording songs for an album called 1985. Although we had interest from Atlantic records, we were one of a ton of bands that had great promise but would not get our big break. So, the album sat in my vault for over 3 decades, the master tapes lost. This year, with encouragement from producer Saul Vigil and some spare time thanks to the pandemic, we finally found the master tapes! We had them digitally remastered and several are now getting a lot of airplay on streaming channels, most of all FAMOUSHITS LIVE. On this podcast, I play back a few of those lost tracks, and play a brand new song from my band recorded in 2019-2020 called "Supernatural Love" all about the times we are living in today. I think being a musician has made me a better interviewer, because I have lived a life playing music, and have a real bond with the guys in each band. Enjoy- some of these are now available on Amazon digital music and iTunes!- Steve

Meantime, my own band was in the studio in the 80s, writing and recording songs for an album called 1985. Although we had interest from Atlantic records, we were one of a ton of bands that had great promise but would not get our big break. Eric was a guest several times on my San Francisco radio show at the time, and was a frequent guest on my TV series in 1984. His is one of the best singers in my opinion in all of rock n roll- and with Mr. Big he continued to prove it with a series of incredible albums and tours over the years. In this special holiday edition of the Podcast, Eric talks about his life, his career, and tells some great rock n roll stories. He also plays back some of his personal favorite tracks, including a couple of Christmas songs off his Mr. Vocalist Christmas album- from a series of albums in Japan that have made him a huge pop star there.
