When we unravel the knot, the healing will begin, says my next guest, Dr. Rachel Farber Acupuncturist, from Santa Cruz, CA.

That may sound to some a bit woo woo but really it is philosophical statement rooted in anatomy and physiology, based on thousands of years of experience.

Today I want to explore if Is it necessary to check in with your inner self to really figure out why you have any certain conditions or ailments? For instance, if you are running around, staying out late, not eating well, and then pull your back out… are these incidents links or are they random?

What about being in a toxic work or relationship, for decades, and you develop anxiety and seek medication, valid, but is it also necessary to take a look at what are the foundational drivers of any imbalances?

Here to discuss this and more is Dr. Rachel Farber!!

Dr. Rachel Farber, DAOM, LAc, is a licensed acupuncturist with over 25 years of clinical practice. She has also served on the faculty Five Branches University and Yo San University teaching Ob/Gyn, Clinical Nutrition and Management of Autoimmune Disease.

She uses a natural approach to help people feel (and look!) their best with an emphasis on pain relief, autoimmune disease management and holistic facial renewal. She practices Integrative Chinese Medicine including acupuncture, herbs, dietary therapy, cupping, gua sha, heat therapy, deep tissue massage and micro-needling.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Farber leads online groups in her 21-Day Seasonal Reset Programs designed to help participants practice gentle nourishment for optimal health. She is also a certified yoga teacher, loves reading and baking, and hanging out with her kids, husband and dog outdoors.

You know the famous Chinese proverb, "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now."?

Well, the same goes for dealing with health and prevention of disease. Of course, preventing illness is always a great goal but sometimes even those who are healthy, will get sick. Think of a time of illness as a time to reset, cleanse and restore.

To continue with the planting a tree analogy, the best time to prepare for illness, is, yesterday!

My guest and co-host today is Abby Klein, medical expert and pharmacist from the San Francisco Bay Area.

We talk about the latest health news, USDA new inverted food pyramid, SNAP restrictions in certain states, plus California Gov. bans UPF’s in schools. It is a start. Let’s see how things go.

Please support my work, buy me a coffee, and like and subscribe to your favorite streaming services! Thanks everyone for listening in!! I am so grateful. 😊

Peace and love,

Jill

Anxiety, depression, mood-swings, irritability? These are common symptoms of hormone imbalances that many women experience especially as they transition into menopause. If you can identify, no, you are not going crazy but it may feel like you are and your loved ones may agree!!

Some women slide right through into menopause with mild to no significant discomfort or symptoms. However, the other unfortunate women suffer hormonal imbalance predominately estrogen dominance caused by poor diet, lack of exercise, a high stress lifestyle, and exposure to xenoestrogens just to name a few.

<itunes:summary>Going Crazy or is it Just Peri-menopause?
Anxiety, depression, mood-swings, irritability? These are common symptoms of hormone imbalances that many women experience especially as they transition into menopause. If you can identify, no, you are not going crazy but it may feel like you are and your loved ones may agree!!
These changes affect women physically, mentally, and emotionally.

The gross imbalance manifests as a spectrum presenting over 150 different aliments and symptoms.

If hormone change in the climacteric woman is natural and normal why do so many millions of women suffer? Some women slide right through into menopause with mild to no significant discomfort or symptoms. However, the other unfortunate women suffer hormonal imbalance predominately estrogen dominance caused by poor diet, lack of exercise, a high stress lifestyle, and exposure to xenoestrogens just to name a few.

These groups help set the poor food standards for our schools, hospitals, and medical facilities throughout the nation.

A few days ago I went to drop off some postcards at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation's Pediatric Dept. for an upcoming class I will be hosting, The Food Tree 101 6-Week Series for Parents, and seriously, sitting right next to the receptionist was a bottle of Coca Cola.

Ms. Lu breaks the mold on how scholars and practitioners can embrace the link to how we think, feel and experience food in relation to human development.

Jill and Ephi discuss the role of how our emotions, our desires and our quest for feeling better impact our dietary habits, how simple food availability is a major influence in your eating choices and so much more exciting content in today's episode!

In a new study, they show that children who eat healthier diets have better emotional state of mind, with calm, and confidence than their peers who perceive their diets as not being as healthy.

Ephi Morphew-Lu has spent the last 17 years supporting the systematic development of a new field of study connecting the psychological and nutritional sciences, referred to as Nutritional Psychology. Her journey began in 2008, when she developed and taught the first university-level course in Nutritional Psychology at JFK University. These courses grew into a 7-course certificate program training mental health and allied health professionals in until early 2020.

In 2015, she co-founded The Center for Nutritional Psychology, a non-profit educational organization that houses the world’s research exploring the connection between nutrition and psychological health. Today, CNP houses thousands of studies informing our understanding of the connection between nutrition and psychology, provides continuing education for mental health and nutrition professionals approved by the American Psychological Association, the Commission on Dietetic Registration and other large credentialing organizations, and is developing interdisciplinary language connecting the psychological and nutritional sciences. CNP's bold mission is to ensure that by 2030, nutrition becomes a systematically recognized and integrated component of mental healthcare worldwide.

During her personal time, Ephi is a wife, mom to two teenagers and a fabulous poodle named General Patton, finds peace in her garden with the General, and spends much of her internal free time daydreaming about a day when mental health professionals can hold the space to formally support their clients’ diet-mental health relationship.

What is the state of your pantry?

Jill Troderman is joined by guest Mira Dessy, The Ingredient Guru, and they get into a fascinating conversation about how to transform your pantry to improve diets and provide healthy options for kid’s snacks by making “lateral changes”!

Mira and I talk about the hidden toxic ingredients lurking in your home cupboards and fridge. We dive into understanding food labels, what is the NOVA Food Classification Scale, and why should you care.

Like are the additives guar gum and carrageen safe to eat? They are in tons of UPF’s!

We discuss ways food and emergency preparedness addresses the concept of self-reliance, creating confidence and resilience in your family in case of an unforeseen situation.

You will learn how to gather food and water for the unexpected emergency and how to store provisions for at least for one month’s survival per person in your family including pets. You need to know this!

Mira Dessy is the Ingredient Guru, an author, speaker, holistic nutritionist, and real food advocate. She emphasizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle through eating a whole foods diet.

Mira and Jill have a fun fast paced talk that everyone will benefit from!

Where does true health begin? Does it begin in the person, in our foods, in the seed or does true health begin in the soil?

The concept of regenerative farming supports all 4 of these needs for optimal human and planetary health, highlighting the importance of soil biology renewed and continuing life.

But healthy soil just doesn’t just happen overnight. To create one inch of topsoil takes nature 100 years. Today, our current agro-farming techniques, deplete and ravish our soils and nutrients. What can we do as homeowners, as a community and how can we support our local farmers and even those on a large scale in creating healthier soil ecosystems?

Skin Deep. Soul Soothing.

My next guest, Donna Cherie, says “Your skin tells a story—of resilience, of memory, of healing. “

So what does your skin tell about you, your history, and your lifestyle?

From scars, to wrinkles, to bumps and bruises, from rough skin to silky smooth skin, our outer layer tells a lot about who we are and where we have been.

But at different stages and phases of life, we need to tend to our skin in different ways so we can create the most healthiest skin, from the inside-out and the outside-in.

Today we are diving deep into redefining how and why to take care of our skin.

Do conventional treatments work or are we better off using natural products.

What about children and babies? We know they need sunlight to grow, but how much sun is good for their skin, what kinds of sunscreen if any should we use and how can we protect them from the harsh elements?

Today we have a very inspirational and dynamic guest who is passionate about all things skin, Donna’s Cherie!

Donna is a Holistic Aesthetician and devoted advocate for skin health. Her practice is rooted in care—care for your skin, your nervous system, and your sense of peace.

She believes that when we slow down, listen, and nurture with intention, true beauty begins to emerge.

Donna creates skincare experiences that are simple, soothing, and grounded in both nature and science—inviting your skin to heal, and your whole self to glow.

Colin and his wife, Shalray, love the idea of helping to create their own food locally and enjoy bringing their bounty to local markets.
They have acquired 20 bee hives, fruit trees, chickens and quail and together run the operation collecting honey, eggs and making vinegars.
It turns out they love it and look forward to interacting with the community!
Honey Do Gardens was created to help encourage local food production and they are pretty inspiring at at!!
Listen in today! Please do like, subscribe to my channel and share!!

Today we are talking about rewriting past trauma and unlocking your true potential to become free, empowered, confident and abundant. Who doesn’t want that?

This show is about the clear importance of fostering and maintaining good mental health and being aware of how we use language to get our needs met and to meet those of others in a loving way.

Carly Wise is a Santa Cruz-based Authentic and Creative Expression Coach who helps women creatives, entrepreneurs, leaders, and sensitive souls process stored trauma, regulate their nervous systems, and reconnect with their creative life force. The US has lost 160,000 farmers and ranchers between 2017 and 2024 according to USDA.

Vegetable production is down 6.3%, according to USDA.

Food nutrient density, soil quality, and human health are all in a scary decline.

What, why and how is this all happening? And what are farmers and growers are doing about it.

The perfect person to talk to about this pressing issue is Michael Olson.

Michael Olson is the host of The Food Chain, a syndicated news talk radio program and podcast broadcasting weekly on radio stations and streaming on demand on the internet.
