The only Bald Knobgbers Chester knew were the famously silly country music and comedy entertainers from Branson. But behind that name is a much darker history.

In the 1880s, the real Bald Knobbers were masked vigilantes who held secret meetings in remote areas of the Missouri Ozarks. Some became associated with intimidation, beatings and murder. Members of the notorious Christian County faction wore bizarre black masks with horns and grotesque features that look like something straight out of a horror movie.

But could someone still be borrowing that imagery today?
