Not the theory. The 13-year journey.

Sambasivan shares how Tata Play spent 7-8 years building the foundation (systems, processes, data integrity, automation) before implementing AI projects that delivered measurable results.

That groundwork paid off. Once the foundation was in place, they deployed seven meaningful AI initiatives in three years. An ML fraud detection project achieved 60% cost savings. Finance employee engagement jumped from 52% to 91%. The CFO role shifted from 70% operations to 50% strategic partnership.

What does it take to build AI into an enterprise supply chain that spans oncology, generics and global markets? In the latest episode of Bottom Line on AI, host Srividya Kannan discusses the strategic role of AI across banking, consumer goods and pharmaceuticals with Meenakshi Chhajer, Global Digital Supply Chain Head at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories.

This conversation was so comprehensive that we have divided it into two parts. Part 1 is available now.

Drawing on 18 years across BFSI, CPG and pharma, Meenakshi unpacks the 25 to 30 year AI maturity gap between banking and pharma, why Indian generic pharma is set to catch up with FMCG in the next 4 to 5 years, and how Dr. Reddy's is applying a three-layered approach to AI — starting with process digitalisation, then data strategy, then intelligent systems on top. She shares real examples from demand forecasting, quality management on the shop floor, logistics and PAL, an agentic AI assistant being piloted to take the drudgery out of procurement contracts.

This episode explores why the discipline of getting the basics right — digitalised processes, reliable data — is what actually separates AI hype from enterprise outcomes.

Watch now to understand what AI adoption looks like inside one of India's largest pharmaceutical companies. Subscribe to our channel for Part 2 and more discussions with business leaders turning AI concepts into measurable impact.

In the latest episode of Bottom Line on AI, host Srividya Kannan discusses the strategic role of AI across banking, consumer goods and pharmaceuticals with Meenakshi Chhajer, Global Digital Supply Chain Head at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories.

In Part 2 of this Bottom Line on AI conversation, host Srividya Kannan continues her discussion with Meenakshi Chhajer, Global Digital Supply Chain Head at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, on what it actually takes to make AI deliver inside large enterprises.

This episode goes deeper into the harder, less glamorous parts of enterprise AI. Meenakshi unpacks why DQ scores have become as critical as business KPIs, how unstructured data hidden in contracts, supplier AGMs and meeting recordings is opening up new value, and where AI is beginning to take over the manual effort of building common data models. She also shares Unilever's celebrated Sky and Shikhar programmes as examples of how customer centricity is being re-engineered with AI in the loop.

The conversation turns to people next. Drawing on the ADKAR framework, Meenakshi talks about why digital teams have to lead by example, how to identify champions of change inside business functions, and why customers and suppliers must be brought into the transformation story for it to stick. She closes with a five-year view: a 50% productivity lift in pharma R&D and manufacturing, hyper-personalisation deepening in CPG, AI-driven M&A reshaping the industry, and blockchain getting a second life in banking on the back of stronger compute.

Watch Part 2 now for a grounded look at the operating model, data and talent shifts that decide whether enterprise AI scales or stalls.
