Halifax Wanderers FC and Atlético Ottawa jumped into the win column for the first time this season with road wins over York United and Vancouver FC, respectively, while Forge FC stayed perfect with a win away to Pacific.

Atlético Ottawa and Halifax Wanderers FC drew a four-goal thriller in the capital, Forge FC beat Cavalry FC in a CPL Final rematch, Pacific FC started their season with victory over Valour FC, and York United beat Vancouver FC to finish off the opening weekend.

The CPL's Charlie O'Connor-Clarke and Mitchell Tierney were live on YouTube shortly after the draw, as they reacted to the news that Cavalry will take on Pumas UNAM, while Forge play CF Monterrey in a pair of CPL-versus-Liga MX battles.

They were also joined live by Cavalry FC coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. and Forge FC coach Bobby Smyrniotis, who provided their thoughts on the draw, how their squad construction is coming along ahead of the Concacaf campaigns, and what it means to be playing at the highest level. Plus, Wheeldon Jr. provides an update on where Cavalry might be able to host their home leg against Pumas.

On this week's episode of the CPL Newsroom, presented by Volkswagen, Charlie O'Connor-Clarke and Mitchell Tierney break down the 2024 Canadian Premier League Final, which saw Cavalry FC lift the North Star Cup for the first time in front of their home fans at ATCO Field.

Cavalry FC booked their ticket to the CPL Final, and won the right to host it, with a victory over Forge FC in Hamilton. Atlético Ottawa knocked out York United FC in a crazy game that ended in the league's first penalty shootout.

Valour and Halifax currently chase Pacific FC for the final playoff spot after all three teams drew matches over the weekend, while Vancouver's recent slide has them on the outside looking in at their BC rivals.

Forge moved to the top of the table on Sunday with a victory over Vancouver FC for their second win of the week, after beating Halifax on Wednesday as well.

York United moved to the top of the table with their win over Valour and Atlético Ottawa's blowout loss against Forge, Cavalry rejoined the CPL Shield conversation with a win at home against Halifax, and there's frustration at Pacific FC after losing again to rivals Vancouver FC to remain on the outside looking in of the playoff picture.

There were some big wins in Hamilton, Toronto, and Langford this weekend, and Cavalry climbed into a playoff spot with a needed win in Vanvcouver.

Friday night saw a wild back-and-forth match between Valour and Pacific in Winnipeg, York ended Atlético Ottawa's historic unbeaten streak on Saturday afternoon, before Forge rescued a point late against the still-winless Halifax Wanderers on Saturday night.

The weekend ended in Kelowna, British Columbia on Sunday, where the CPL played its first ever On Tour match, featuring Vancouver FC and Cavalry FC, as it looks to expand to new communities across the country.

CPL sides Forge FC and Cavalry FC will compete with some of the region's top sides, from Club América to Lionel Messi's Inter Miami, as they bid for continental glory. Forge will take on Liga MX giants Chivas Guadalajara, while Cavalry head to Florida for a matchup with Orlando City SC.
