AUSTRALIA: RACHEL AND ADAM - food - 1 HOUR SPECIAL

We have a chat about "nothing". This where were don't plan subjects, we just grab them from our minds as we go!  This week myself and our Australian correspondents discuss the big supermarkets here and how they have been ripping off both food suppliers (farmers etc) AND customers at the same time. Price gouging. The Aussie Govt has stepped in to legislate against this. 

Processed food, and how the WHO (World Health Organisation) have condoned a report that consuming processed food is actually killing more people (in developed countries) than tobacco. Fast food companies are very powerful, so this topic gets swept under the carpet in the media, which often advertises fast food companies.

We continue with the experience of internet dating and how it can go terribly wrong! Finally, Adam has recently been to Taiwan, and 4 days after he came back, that terrible earthquake happened. He reflects on his experiences there.

HOUR TWO 

USA: DAWN AND THOMAS - eclipse - 1 HOUR SPECIAL

We don't necessarily commiserate with Donald Trump over the dramatic popularity slump of his "Truth Social" network (his weird version of Twitter or X) It has lost 20% of its valuation in 48 hours. That's 58 MILLION dollars. That's just the beginning of his troubles!

A rare total solar eclipse swept across the Pacific Ocean, through Mexico, the United States, and Canada on April 8.

The phenomenon occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. We talked about the almost spiritual nature of how people in The United States reacted and how they gazedup into the sky in awe. We pondered if it somehow, even for a moment, brought a very divided America together.

I talked with North American correspondents Dawn Drost (Orlandi, Florida) and Thomas Booker (San Antonio, Texas) about all manner of things stateside! I tried to talk about American politics but they weren't having any of that! What a fun hour we spent, chatting about everything including how life at school was, here we all went on holidays as younger people, how mumps can affect a man's nether regions. Don't even ask!

Jo Volta and Paul Volta are the band "The Sign" in Tasmania, Australia. They are a very talented duo, and are correspondents for Bonditunes International. I interviewed Paul about a lot of things! His life as a child growing up in Rochester, New York, his interest in playing guitar at the tender age of 14! His life with his wife and musical partner Jo Volta. He came to Australia, went to New Zealand, which he didn't really like, but was drawn back to Australia because he had met Jo there and just wanted to get back to her! We chat about his love of Australia and not having ANY desire to go back to his country of The United States.

I took my life in my hands when I interviewed 12 year old Harriet, who was off to see Taylor Swift in concert the following day here in Sydney. Yes, she's a "Swiftie", and she took no prisoners when talking with me! It was an absolute pleasure to chat with her and I learned all about Swift's place in the world and how very thoughtful she is as a person. I still don't know any of her songs though!

Also, we discuss Trump's ridiculous speech at The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Finally we ponder Tayor Swifts potential influence on the up-coming US Federal election in November of this year!

Maddy is our new Sydney correspondent here on Bonditunes International, and we had a great discussion about several topics, including as colourful Kings Cross (in Sydney, not London!) and how it was a place of playwrights and thespians in the 1960's and how it's become gentrified. We chat about Sydney Gay And Lesbian Mardigras, the biggest of its type in the world, which is on this week. We talked non-stop, about movies we like, and how Aboriginal people are not being treated very badly still in Australia.

Europe correspondent Declan Hughes joins me from Dublin to discuss this: "€20,000 was spent (in Ireland's Republic) on deportation flights for one asylum-seeker as the total for last year reached €269,045". I talk with our Australian Correspondents Adam Devlin (Brisbane, Queensland) and Melissa Grima (Melbourne) about how the two big supermarket chains in Australia are closing their large stores and opening what they call "boutique" shops, which means less choice and more expensive food. They reckon this is a cash-grab and apparently it's about to happen in Britain with the likes of Marks & Sparks, Tesco etc. After all that, we chat about the juggernaut that is Taylor Swift, how she has affected the world with her songs, personality, and her amazing effect on so many people.

And, she became one, despite being obsessed with also being a musical artist. That career won for her, but she was amazing to talk about her other interest: Politics. This is a detailed look at life in the 60's and 70's in Australia.It's important to note, she was a model, a lawyer and a singer/songwriter. How many people can say that?

THOMAS BOOKER - sixties - 1 HOUR SPECIAL

Lovely going down the road that was the 1960's in America. Thomas is our North America Correspondent and grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where he still lives. His insight to those times in a time of North Korea, Vietnam wars, the 1968 uprising in the US and of course, let's not forget the whole hippie movement of the time. Thomas' story of life in Texas from his childhood moves me because he is so "real" about his youth. Had the guts not to follow the trends of the time and I admire him for that, Thomas was not a follower nor a leader. He believed in himself. That's pure class.

As the fires rage across Chile, I contacted two young people there, one Australian, the other Chilean, who were helping firefighters fight an almost unbeatable fight in severe hot and windy conditions (36c). These fires will not end anytime soon as the winds are causing chaos. Over 100 people dead, 300 missing, the death toll is expected to rise dramatically over the next week.
