That idea sits at the heart of the inaugural Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemen's Association (KPCA) Head Stockpersons Leadership Forum. As Lux Lethbridge reflects during this conversation, we can all do the blisters-on-our-hands work. The harder part is stepping forward, asking for guidance and learning how to lead people.

In the first episode of this four-part series, Holly Ludeman speaks with KPCA CEO Bron Christensen and KPCA Executive Committee member Lux Lethbridge to unpack the vision behind the forum, why it was needed, how it came together, and what they hope it means for the future of northern Australia's cattle industry.

Bron brings more than 25 years' experience across the beef industry and a passion for turning ideas into action through practical industry development. As CEO of the KPCA, she's leading initiatives that invest in people as much as production.

Camren Maierle, PhD, is the Sustainability Director for the American Lamb Board and producer from Jacksontown, Ohio. He has a bachelor’s in animal science from The Ohio State University, and both master’s and doctoral degrees in animal and food science from West Virginia University. Camren has been a livestock extension educator with Penn State University Extension, where he led schools for sheep producers. Annabelle talks candidly about the 2011 cattle live export crisis, shines a light on Australian privileges and highlights why the live export trade exists with a particular focus on people and markets.

Annabelle says, "That's the beauty of being an Australian; we have the choice and position to have such opinions. But I can't help but assume the priorities of society change with the comfort of a full stomach and a wet throat. My experience of 16 countries, more than 100 flights and 12 months of diverse travel has given me the opportunity to build a very solid foundation of knowledge."

A dedicated and proud advocate for all things Ag related, Jess devotes her time to agricultural policy formation, representing farmers and industry issues through strategic policy formation beginning from the grassroots, and liaising across all levels of government. Starting with WAFarmers in 2018, she is the Executive Manager for WAFarmers’ Grains and Livestock Commodity Councils, and manages media, communications and events for the organisation.

The Livestock Collective is so excited to introduce you all to the Livestock Leaders podcast. Our first star guest is #LivestockLeader Patrick Coole. He is a passionate advocate for live export and chats about his role in the supply chain and YLEN.

Patrick has ten years of experience working throughout the live export supply chain and comes from a cattle producer background. He currently holds the Vice Chair position for the Young Livestock Exporters Network, an association dedicated to developing cohort of young people involved in live export in to responsible, innovative and forward thinking professionals. Patrick is interested in the ethics of animal production and enjoys overseeing ESCAS operations for Halleen Australasian Livestock Traders where he is able to implement effective animal welfare programs for the cattle they export.
