Scott Pilgrim vs. the World follows Toronto slacker Scott, who falls hard for the enigmatic Ramona Flowers and then learns, too late, that dating her comes with a boss-battle gauntlet of seven increasingly unreasonable exes. What unfolds is part romance, part video game, where emotional baggage manifests as literal combat and self-improvement is less a journey than a series of combos you either land or don’t. Scott spends most of the film confusing sincerity with effort and learns in the end that it’s less about winning the girl and more about leveling up into someone who might actually deserve her.

What follows isn’t so much a straight-line plot as a slow unraveling of assumptions about attraction, identity, and emotional honesty, punctuated by awkward encounters and the kind of conversations people only have when they can’t avoid each other. The film sidesteps easy answers, letting its characters fumble toward self-awareness while occasionally making you laugh at how confidently wrong they all are. This one definitely feels like a filler episode in which Bo Katan and Din Djarin are tasked to help a bizzaro Alice in Wonderland-style planet solve a mystery regarding their rogue droids in order to gain permission to meet with the mercenary Mandalorians currently camped out on the planet, led by Axe Woves. There's some good here, a lot of bad and a sweet ass Mandalorian battle at the end.

Ranger pilot Carson Teva can’t get official help, so he runs to the Mandalorians for help, guilt tripping Mando into assisting. Led by Din Djarin and enthusiastically backed by Paz Vizsla, the Mandalorians swoop in, wreck the pirates, and turn the whole thing into a very explosive community service project. In return, Nevarro gives them land to live on and begin rebuilding their community.

We have been talking about C.H.U.D. since the show started, and as we were planning our 200th episode, one of our Patrons, Grayson, suggested this one so we decided it was finally time!

We learn New York’s missing-person problem is actually due to radioactive cannibal mutants living in the sewer system, which was not part of the city planning. As a photographer (John Heard), a soup-kitchen operator (Daniel Stern), and a skeptical cop (Christopher Curry) connect the dots, the film shifts between urban paranoia and creature-feature mayhem. It treats toxic waste, homelessness, and government negligence with surprising earnestness while still delivering glowing-eyed monsters who clearly do not want guests.

In The Mandalorian Chapter 20 : The Foundling, Mandalorian training on the beach is interrupted by yet another giant creature, and Paz Vizsla's kid gets carried off by a flying predator we deemed the Terrordactyl, leading to a jetpack pursuit that doubles as a reminder that Mandalorians plan for everything except fuel efficiency. Grogu quietly gets adopted into the culture while having a very expository flashback to Order 66. By the end, Bo-Katan earns more respect from the Armorer, Paz and the Covert and we get some foreshadowing of her future.

Armed with a badge he didn’t earn and confidence he definitely didn’t earn, he stumbles through cases, annoys actual professionals, and somehow inches closer to solving his brother’s murder. The film can't decide if it's a comedy or a crime thriller and runs on fast-talking charm and a steady stream of bad decisions, turning a murder investigation into a surprisingly breezy coming-of-age story with sirens in the background.

In The Mandalorian Chapter 19, The Convert, the show briefly forgets it’s about a behelmeted space dad and instead follows our old pal from season one Dr. Pershing on Coruscant, where New Republic bureaucracy proves more terrifying than any Imperial remnant. Pershing tries to do good with his science, but gets peer-pressured into breaking rules by a suspiciously friendly ex-Imperial, and is rewarded with a mind-flayer session that’s definitely not part of the wellness program. The episode paints the New Republic as well-meaning but hilariously bogged down in office politics, recycled equipment, and moral gray zones. Meanwhile, Din and Bo-Katan meet up with the Covert and get forgiven for their dirty apostate sins.

Ep 192: The Cowboy Way - Rodeo Month

We typically won't do a movie that isn't available in any form, even physical, but this is one of the movies that Jack pitched the month's theme for, so we're getting into it anyway. Woody Harrelson and Kiefer Sutherland play rodeo roping partners-on-the-outs that get wrapped up in a human trafficking and slavery scandal run by Dylan McDermott while trying to save their old friend Nacho. They have to travel from New Mexico to New York City, and the fish-out-of-water hijinks ensue. We also get graced for the second time in two episodes with the gorgeous visage of one of our favorites, Ernie Hudson! Not to mention, quite possibly the greatest dummy death in show history.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, aside from being a mouthful, tries to raise the stakes on the first entry by sending Lara on a globe-spanning quest to stop a mythic device that could end the world, but mostly settles for repeating the motions of a video game without the player’s sense of control. Angelina Jolie’s effortless confidence does a lot of the heavy lifting as the film hops between exotic locations, elaborate traps, and villains who feel more like obstacles than characters. It’s slick and energetic, yet oddly weightless, an adventure that looks impressive in motion while never quite convincing you there’s anything truly at risk beyond the next action set piece.

After a fierce showdown, Mando defeats Gideon and finally earns his official Mandalorian signet. The episode ends with Gideon slicing his way out of a wrecked TIE fighter, with the help of the Darksaber’s dramatic entrance, because villains in capes never just stay down.

Yes, the same housing project that Candyman is from! What starts as a begrudging paycheck gig turns into an "unlikely" redemption story, as Conor learns about responsibility, friendship, and the fact that kids have no filter whatsoever. Prepare for swearing children, sports movie cliches, white savior complex, and more in this racially-charged film that was definitely written and directed by white guys. Think The Bad News Bears, but with more gambling debt and a late-’90s hip-hop soundtrack and emotional manipulation.

He assembles a ragtag team, including Cara Dune, Kuiil, and IG-11, and brings Baby Yoda along for what is definitely not a 50-year-old baby safe mission. Things quickly spiral when Moff Gideon shows up, dramatically outclassing everyone and turning the trap into a massacre. The episode ends with Kuiil tragically killed and Baby Yoda captured, proving once again that trusting people in Star Wars is a fast track to heartbreak.

We had already planned on covering this one for our Schlock & Load segment, but we bumped it up in light of the Hulkster's passing. And, yes, we know Terry Bollea was a real-life piece of shit. In this schlock-bomb, Suburban Commando, Hogan swaps the wrestling ring for outer space as Shep Ramsey, an intergalactic warrior forced to lie low on Earth after breaking his spaceship in a hissy fit. Unfortunately for him, he crash-lands in the most aggressively normal suburb imaginable, moving in with mild-mannered architect Charlie (Christopher Lloyd) and his family. Cue fish-out-of-water hijinks involving skateboards, car thieves, a very confused mailman, and a terrified mime, all while Shep tries to dodge alien bounty hunters, played by a "welcome back" actor and an early in his career The Undertaker! It’s a bizarre mashup of sci-fi action, slapstick comedy, and early ’90s cheese that’s somehow both ridiculous and oddly charming.

Along the way, there’s bonding, bickering, and just enough heartwarming moments to make you forget he’s technically kidnapping them... almost. It’s part road trip comedy, part family drama, and 100% drunk Swayze charisma.

The plan goes sideways when Toro double-crosses everyone, proving he's more amateur than ambitious. In the end, Mando takes him out, gets his ship fixed, and leaves behind another mess... along with a mysterious figure who arrives at Fennec’s body.

Howard is just your average cigar-chomping, sarcastic duck from Duckworld, a planet where everyone waddles, talks, and apparently wears pants only sometimes. One day, without warning, he's beamed through space and crash lands in the one place stranger than his home: Cleveland, Ohio. After saving a punk rock singer named Beverly, played by the gorgeous Lea Thompson, from some thugs, he somehow becomes her feathery sidekick/boyfriend/maybe-it’s-complicated. She introduces him to Phil, a hyperactive lab assistant played by a manic Tim Robbins, who thinks Howard is the key to science or maybe just his own career advancement. When Dr. Jenning, in the unfortunate return of Jeffrey Jones to the podcast, tries to send Howard back to his duck-shaped galaxy, he instead beams a demonic space villain into his own body. Now, Howard must save Earth from intergalactic doom, prove that ducks can be action heroes, and maybe kiss a human woman without making the audience question everything.

This week, we are joined by our Month of Action compatriot and friend Dustin from Flick & Friends, B-Action and The Barrens Hideout! Directed by Renny Harlin and starring Saffron Burrows, Tom Jane, Sam Jackson, LL Cool J, and Stellan Skarsgard, Deep Blue Sea tells the tale of Dr. Susan McAlester, who is working on a cure for Alzheimer’s. So she starts by juicing up shark brains, obviously. After setting up shop in an isolated ocean lab, because nothing says "safe science" like experimenting on super-intelligent killing machines in the middle of nowhere, the company's corporate watchdog shows up to check if the brain-harvesting science is ethically sound (spoiler: it’s not), and things take a nosedive. A “routine procedure” turns into a full-blown shark uprising, as it turns out, giving sharks giant brains doesn’t make them friendlier; it just makes them better at plotting your demise. Now, a handful of terrified scientists are trapped in an oceanic murder maze, and the sharks are running the show.

Marvel famously buried this Roger Corman-produced B-movie before it could ever be released, but nerds being nerds wouldn't let it die. An almost finished copy of the film has been circulating at comic conventions via bootleg VHS and DVD copies, and it is also available on YouTube. With the MCU's first foray into The Fantastic Four set to release this summer, we decided to check this one out and found that it might be the best adaptation of Marvel's First Family to date. In 1997, Shaquille O' Neill was on top of the world. He was one of the most famous basketball players in the country, he'd won gold at the 1996 Olympics, had 3 rap records, and a film in which he played a genie titled Kazaam. While the albums and film weren't massive successes, it didn't stop him from jumping on another film opportunity, 1997's DC Comics adaptation STEEL! He plays John Henry Irons, a weapons developer for the US military, who retires after an accident and has to don a suit of armor to stop an evil Judd Nelson from selling secretly developed weapons to street gangs. With the help of his friends Shaft and Annabeth Gish, he battles street crime in spectacularly stupid fashion.

Ep 143: The Rock (It’s Gonna Be Bay Annual Episode)

In our first year of the podcast, we did an entire month of Michael Bay films for May and called it "It's Gonna Be Bay". Well, we learned from that experience, which was very trying on our mental health, so we vowed never to do that again. Since then, we have done one Michael Bay movie per year on the last Monday before May, and this year is no exception. We're finally discussing one of Bay's only truly good films, THE ROCK from 1996, starring Sean Connery and a slew of "welcome backs" including Nic Cage, Ed Harris, William Forsythe, and Michael Biehn. Nic Cage is a mild-mannered virologist who is tasked with stopping Ed Harris and his band of disenfranchised Marines from dropping chemical bombs on San Francisco with the help of former SAS agent and 30-year prisoner Sean Connery. Time for badabooms and ratatats.

Sinbad and Phil Hartman star in this "wrong man/mistaken identity" style 90's comedy that also served as Sinbad's first starring film role. Sinbad plays a sad sack conman trying to get rich quick who falls into debt with the mob and has to take over the identity of Phil Hartman's childhood friend to hide with Hartman's family in an affluent Philadelphia suburb. Of course, antics ensue, children are charmed and Sinbad solves everyone's problems but his own. This episode ends with a twist that you'll have to hear to believe!

Gene Hackman plays former president of the United States Monroe "Eagle" Cole, who retires to Mooseport, Maine and is convinced to run for mayor to stop his ex-wife from taking his home in their divorce. Ray Romano plays Harold "Handy" Harrison, a local hardware store owner also running for mayor. What passes for hilarity in a Ray Romano movie ensues.

This was a staple of Derrick's childhood, so this episode will potentially serve as a nostalgia buster of sorts.

A Civil War general is put to death for being a genocidal maniac and is resurrected by a satanic cult in Tucson, Arizona. He quickly sets out to murder the descendants of those responsible for his death. This movie looks like crap and has terrible acting, but it's full of great, bloody special effects and a lot of community theater boobs. We tried to shoot video for you guys, but someone in the neighborhood crashed into a transformer and took out the power and internet, so it didn't happen this time around.

He starts to blow off his old friends, including Children of the Corn's Malachai, turning into a real shitheel, and, of course, hilarity ensues. This is a nostalgic classic for Jack and Whitney but a first-time watch for Derrick. You shit on my house!

It's our 2nd anniversary and just like last year, we're celebrating by revisiting one of our favorite movies from the very early days of the podcast. We didn't know what the hell we were doing back then (let's be honest, we barely know now), so we're going back to Orlando to fight the ninja! There were some technical difficulties, so Whitney bowed out of the episode to let our friend Steve from the Bucket of Chum podcast come back on with us and discuss something with NO SHARKS in it. An 80s pop-rock band made up of orphaned Tae Kwon Do experts have to stop a gang of bikers and ninjas (and ninja bikers) from selling cocaine on their streets, all of this is accompanied by a banger of a soundtrack and some atrocious acting. This is one of the worst movies of all time and we LOVE it!

For the final week of our Tucson Music Scene month, we ventured out of our recording dungeon to Brickbox Brewery to record with the owner of the venue and a world-class hip-hop artist, Runt of the mighty Jivin' Scientists! We talk about the second entry in the Freddy Krueger oeuvre, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE, directed by Jack Sholder and starring Robert Englund, Mark Patton and Kim Myers. Widely considered one of the gayest horror movies ever made for its undertones of homosexuality, this one breaks all of the rules set forth in the original film, with Freddy running slipshod through a bunch of unsuspecting teens in the real world. We've got a great performance from Englund, really starting to find the character's comedic tone, and some gruesome special effects. There's also a gym coach in leather daddy gear, so that's a thing.

The crew of stereotypical Gen X slackers working in a record store discover that their beloved workplace is slated to be consumed by a megastore chain, they fight to save their indy shop. Meanwhile, it's Rex Manning Day, and the whole store is excited... well, Liv Tyler is at least, as she's planning on offering her virginity to the aging pop star. It's very much a post-Clerks type of Gen X comedy that's endlessly quotable and massively charming with an absolute banger of a soundtrack.

For the next entry in our Tucson Music Scene month, we welcome Ty from the ska punk band Swigfoot and he's bringing us 1998's ALMOST HEROES directed by the great Christopher Guest and starring Matthew Perry and Chris Farley, in his final role before his untimely death. Leslie Edwards and Bartholomew Hunt are two explorers in the 1800s, racing their way across the country to chart a path to the Pacific Ocean, trying to beat Lewis and Clark to the punch. Joined by a band of misfits, they get into a bunch of shenanigans and, eventually, find that the real journey was their friendship... or something. This one was a big flop and we're going to have a great time diving into it.

This week we welcome our good friend Patch from Evasion to dive into the 1994 smash hit turd, STREET FIGHTER directed by Steven E. de Souza and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, the incomparable Raul Julia, Ming-Na Wen, Wes Studi and Kylie Minogue. When General Bison, the evil dictator of Shadaloo, takes a busload of relief workers hostage for ransom, Colonel Guile leads the Allied Nation's forces against him along with reporter Chun-Li and a cast of colorful characters. There's almost no street fighting and a lot of silly bullshit, but it was a lot of fun to watch and even more fun to discuss!

Jamie Lee Curtis makes a short appearance in the film she describes as "a joke", but the meat of this turd sandwich takes place back in Haddonfield where a live internet reality show called Dangertainment hosted by Busta Rhymes is being filmed in Michael’s old home. This stupid throwback to the early 2000s is widely considered the worst entry in the Halloween franchise and, in fact, was so bad that the planned sequel was canceled and the next Halloween film ended up being Rob Zombie's 2007 reboot.

For our penultimate entry in the Dirka Classic Movies series and our next episode of Halloween Horrorfest, we discuss this flick, directed by a guy apparently known as Mr. B.I.G., Bert I. Gordon, a monster movie master and schlock king. This one stars Joan Collins of Dynasty fame and follows her and a group of unsuspecting shlubs that she is trying to con into buying fancy houses in a high-class neighborhood that hasn't been built yet. They stumble upon gigantic irradiated ants that can also mind-control humans with pheromones that their Queen squirts into their faces. A bunch of no-names that we give fun nicknames to have to fight their way through the swampland to survive screeching ants, pod people and the wilderness.

Ep 107: The Faculty

The next installment in our Halloween Horrorfest, THE FACULTY is directed by one of Derrick's favorite directors, Robert Rodriguez, and stars a deep cast of future stars including Josh Hartnett, Clea DuVall, Jordanna Brewster, Jon Stewart, Famke Janssen, Elijah Wood and Usher (in his film debut) as well as old favorites like Selma Hayek, Piper Laurie, Bebe Neuwirth, Robert Patrick and Chris McDonald! Basically, this is The Invasion of the Breakfast Club Snatchers, with a high school being infiltrated by alien squids that bind with their hosts and alter their behavior. A ragtag team of kids, including the jock, the cheerleader, the nerd, the burnout and the new girl, are made to join forces to stop the invasion before it can spread outside of their little Ohio town. We revel in the 90s-ness of the soundtrack, the storytelling, the action and the fashion while finding ways to dismiss the sometimes god-awful CG.

A group of troubled and misfit teens go on a camping trip with a youth group to commune with nature and find some peace, but the local pot farmers are using a dangerous chemical on their crops that leads to football-sized flesh eating ticks terrorizing the camp and the entire town! TICKS pays homage to the monster movies of the 1950s while upping the level of goop and bloodshed massively!

Joined by a new, forgettable partner, Ward begins to realize that the graboids have evolved into a slimy version of Nerds candy and has to pull out all the stops to win the day with the help of his old pal Burt and a truckload of explosives.

After being barred from using the internet because of crimes he committed, he turns 18, immediately starts committing cyber crimes again, and hooks up with a group of other cool hackers, including Matthew Lillard and Angelina Jolie, to form Captain Hack the Planet! They end up battling against a ruthless skateboarding hacker named The Virus, played by Fisher Stevens, to stop his nefarious plans, all while cyberbullying a Secret Service agent.

Also known by fans of the franchise as Roy: The Movie. This one is a direct follow-up to Part IV: The Final Chapter in which Jason is defeated by an adolescent Corey Feldman. This one kicks off with Feldman's character, Tommy Jarvis, all grown up and still traumatized by his previous experiences and being shipped off to a group home in the wilderness with a bunch of sociopaths and more than one murderer. We get some cool kills (along with some severely neutered ones), some great boobs and the star of Juwanna Mann dressed up like Michael Jackson and eating enchiladas off the floor of a van. It's a hoot!

JCVD agrees to help a woman who is searching for her missing homeless father in the streets of New Orleans. Henriksen and Vosloo run a service that lets rich assholes hunt the most dangerous game, MAN! They get their men by culling the streets of homeless veterans, but this will be their last hunt if Van Damme has anything to say about it. Terrible Cajun accents, roundhouse kicks, splits, explosions and whiskey that makes a jack rabbit jump up and slap a bear!

The late great Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper star in this one alongside John Leguizamo and Samantha Mathis with Fisher Stevens (not doing brownface this time). Dinosaurs still exist in an alternate dimension created by a crashing meteor and they have evolved into people, people trying to get back to our dimension! The only thing that can stop them is, apparently, a pair of plumbers from Brooklyn.

Brendan Fraser stars in this adaptation of a forgotten cartoon from the 70s about a young boy left in the jungle to be raised by apes only to fall in love with a beautiful woman from a world he doesn't understand. Sounds a lot like Tarzan, right? That's because it is! But "FUNNY"! Brendan Fraser is playing the doofusy but loveable George, known by locals as the Great White Ape, as he saves Leslie Mann from Thomas Haden Church and some goons. It's a silly kids' movie with some fun moments that Jack had the audacity to think belonged on our Patreon feed. He has since recanted his statement. Christopher Lee, playing General Miguel, kidnaps a scientist to force him to make a serum that will cause people to age incredibly rapidly in order to hold the US hostage in exchange for $1,000,000,000! That's over $4 billion today... yikes. Cap fights some thugs, some dogs and hang glides his way into the history books in this flick, the second one produced in the same year!

He uses his mystical powers and extensive network of indentured servants to keep the Mafia and other potential villains at bay. This one also stars Penelope Ann Miller, John Lone, Tim Curry, Peter Boyle and Ian McKellen.

Jack’s love for Tom Hanks is no secret, so he picked this one for us. A feel-good musical biopic of sorts about a fictional band’s rise to stardom thanks to their cool ass drummer and a catchy as hell song. Schaech and Scott have a butting of heads along the way but Embry and Zahn are just in it for the ride. This is a sweet, clean-cut, Hanks-ian comedy featuring some fun music, great jokes and good times. Whitney and Jack know this one pretty well, but it’s Derrick’s first foray, how will that go? Hailed as the British Godzilla, this film was directed by Eugene Lourie and stars William Sylvester (of 2001: A Space Odyssey fame) and Bill Travers, who looks an awful lot like a cross between Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Steven Seagal.
