If you could sit down with your 21-year-old self, what would you say? Would you tell them to worry less, trust themselves more, or stop feeling they have something to prove?

In this episode of Ask John & Gaia Podcast, we explore a listener’s question that takes us back to our younger selves, and into a conversation about self-worth, ambition, perfectionism and finding the confidence to live life your own way.

For Gaia, the message is heartfelt: “You are a good person.” Looking back on leaving Italy for London at 21, she reflects on taking risks while still carrying doubts about her own value. She shares how her later work with childhood trauma helped her understand the difference between feeling bad and believing you are bad, and why she wishes her younger self had felt that reassurance much earlier.

For John, it’s about worrying less and going for it. Remembering himself as shy but ambitious, he considers what it would have meant to hear that he could follow his passions, try things, make mistakes and enjoy the journey without needing to know exactly how everything would turn out.

Along the way, we question the pressure of being “only as good as your last burger,” and explore what changes when you do something because you genuinely want to, rather than to prove your worth to yourself or anyone else.

There’s also chocolate cake, an imaginary judgmental fridge, some highly questionable skincare advice, and plenty of teasing as we discover how closely our two messages connect: “Relax, you’re okay” and “Relax, it’s okay.”

Whatever your age, join us for a warm, playful and personal conversation, and consider what you would tell your younger self, and what you might still need to hear today.
