Did Australia Attend AARO’s Secret 2025 UAP Workshop?

Sat, 03 Oct 2026 14:58:06 +1000

The Pentagon is no longer just filing away UAP sighting reports, they are building a massive, AI-driven data machine. In August 2025, AARO hosted a tightly controlled invite-only workshop focused on standardising metadata, integrating classified sensor systems, and deploying artificial intelligence to triage anomalous events at scale.

But was Australia in the room?

In this episode of The Unexplained Rundown, we attempt to answer that question by reviewing documents recently secured for release through FOIA by John Greenewald at The Black Vault.

2026 Australian UFO Festival Lecture: Westall - 60 Years of Secrecy

Sat, 03 Oct 2026 14:51:02 +1000

Presented at the 2026 Australian UFO Festival in Cardwell, Queensland by Australian researcher and podcaster Grant Lavac, this lecture delves into the enduring mystery of Australia’s most significant mass UAP/UFO sighting: the Westall incident of 6 April 1966.

Drawing on years of archival research and his documentary, The Westall Witnesses, Grant provides a critical analysis of the disconnect between the vivid testimony of hundreds of students and teachers and the lack of a transparent government record.

The lectures details Grant's extensive search for truth within the National Archives of Australia and his ongoing efforts to secure information through FOIA requests—challenges that led him to launch a government petition asking for a formal, independent inquiry. Having raised significant public awareness through high-profile media appearances, notably on The Today Show, A Current Affair and the ABC's Australian Story, Grant shares the latest findings from his investigations.

Sixty years on from the Westall incident, this presentation argues that the time for secrecy has passed and that the witnesses finally deserve official acknowledgment of the extraordinary events they experienced.

Corrections:
1) The "Clayton Calendar" originated from Browns Road State School in Clayton, not Westall State School.
2) Shane Ryan has not been provided the identifies of any of the five light aircraft pilots who were airborne on 6 April 1966. A man (now deceased) had contacted Shane Ryan and indicated that he knew one or more of the pilots but would not reveal their identities. Aspects of this story were later corroborated by the daughter of a Moorabbin pilot (now deceased), who attended Westall High School in 1967. She commented to Shane Ryan that he also knew the pilots and that they would not speak again about what they saw...but that it shook them up.
3) GTV-9 evening newsreader in 1966 was Sir Eric Pearce (not Sir Eric Prince).

Unpacking the 1971 Australian JIO UFO Document with Bill Chalker

Fri, 19 Jun 2026 09:47:37 +1000

In this episode of The Unexplained Rundown, we talk with veteran Australian UFO researcher Bill Chalker about the 1971 Australian Joint Intelligence Organisation minute paper on UFOs...and its author, Harry Turner. This document has been publicly referenced on numerous occasions by David Grusch, Karl Nell, Jesse Michels, and Eric Weinstein. It was even included in the third tranche of released UFO files by the US Department of Defense.

But the broader context around the genesis of this document - and the hard source material its author, Harry Turner, relied on - has rarely been discussed in public. Bill has comprehensively reported on Harry Turner’s work and interviewed him at length before his passing. If there is anyone better positioned to opine on Turner's minute paper and provide this crucial historical context...it's Bill.

Fri, 20 Feb 2026 09:47:16 +1100

In this episode of The Unexplained Rundown, we interview director and producer, Zev Howley on his new UFO documentary film, THE MAN WHO SAW THEM ARRIVE.

Film Synopsis: January, 1968. The quiet life of Melbourne resident Colin Cameron is shattered following a mysterious encounter on Kew Boulevard. Obsessed with uncovering the truth, Colin documented strange phenomena and shared his experiences with those closest to him as the events grew increasingly intense and dangerous. Told through the eyes of his cousin Andrea, who honours a promise to share his story, THE MAN WHO SAW THEM ARRIVE recounts Colin’s journey, presents first-hand accounts of Australia’s most famous UFO sightings—including Westall 1966—and provides insights from leading UFO researchers. A haunting exploration of mystery, memory, and unanswered questions hidden in Melbourne’s backstreets.

Demand that the Australian Government Investigate Westall

Fri, 29 Aug 2025 13:14:38 +1000

No explanation has ever been offered by the Australian government as to what was observed in the skies above Westall High School on 6 April 1966. In this episode of The Unexplained Rundown, we review a recent petition that was submitted to and accepted by the Australian House of Representatives, calling for an independent inquire into the Westall incident of 6 April 1966.

SIGN & SHARE THE PETITION

If you're an Australian citizen and you want answers on the Westall incident, please sign the petition and share on your social networks. Sign the petition at: https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN7396

We'll also explore the Tully Nest UFO case of 19 January 1966 (following my recent to the site while speaking at the Australian UFO Festival in Cardwell, Queensland) and examine newly uncovered documents, which shed some light on how the incident was reported to the highest levels of the Australian government.

Latest FOIA Document Walkthrough: Chief of Air Force Brief on UAP/UFOs

Thu, 17 Aug 2023 20:00:00 +1000

On 1 July 2022, I utilised the Australian Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to secure the release of the most significant document to come out of the Royal Australia Air Force (RAAF) on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) in more than 25-years - the Chief of Air Force (CAF) Brief on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena. This document highlights the RAAF's strategic narrative and official position on UAP. Fast forward to 9 August 2023, when I secured release of the latest available version of the CAF Brief (also referred to as Senate Estimates Brief) on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena/Unidentified Flying Objects.

Join me for a walkthrough of this document and analysis of the implications for Australia's future involvement (or lack thereof) on the UAP topic.

Ross Coulthart, Bill Chalker & Reddit User: Harry_is_white_hot

Thu, 10 Aug 2023 10:00:00 +1000

Today I have the pleasure and privilege of talking all things UAP and Australia’s involvement (or rather, lack thereof) in the topic, with three gents that I’ve long respected and have had the good fortune of learning from directly:

Ross Coulthart is a multi-award-winning investigative journalist with over three decades experience in newspapers and television, including reporting for The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, ABC TV Four Corners, Nine Network Sunday program and 60 Minutes, Seven Network Sunday Night, and most recently 7NEWS Spotlight He is the author of “In Plain Sight” (essential reading if you’re new to the topic of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAP) and is the co-host of the always informative, “Need to Know” podcast with his podcasting partner in crime, Bryce Zabel.

Bill Chalker is a veteran Australian UFO/UAP researcher and author of “The OZ Files - the Australian UFO Story”, and has a great online blog that goes by the same name. If you haven’t checked out Bill’s The OZ Files blog, I would encourage you to take a look via the link below, as there’s a wealth of information on UAP and UFOs in an Australian context.

Reddit User: Harry_Is_White_Hot (first name, Geoff), who prefers to remain anonymous due to his line work, s my final guest today and has held a lifelong interest in UFOs, as well as EMP nuclear weapons effects and alternate methods of propulsion for spacecraft. He worked in signals intelligence from space-based assets for a number of years before moving into the O&G sector, making rocket fuel.

The Westall Witnesses

Tue, 08 Aug 2023 10:00:00 +1000

Westall High School, Wednesday the 6th of April 1966. What starts out as an ordinary second last day of term quickly transforms into an extra ordinary event...leaving an indelible mark on the lives and young impressionable minds of many forever.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege and pleasure of attending a witness reunion event in recognition of the 57th anniversary of the Westall flying saucer incident. I also had the opportunity to meet a small number of primary witnesses and hear their accounts first-hand. This is their story:

Five Eyes Forum on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP)

Sat, 03 Jun 2023 14:42:47 +1000

Welcome to THE UNEXPLAINED RUNDOWN. If you’ve found this channel intentionally, then like me, you're intrigued by the unexplained mysteries of this mortal coil of ours and crave to know what’s real and what’s not.

On Wednesday 31 May 2023, members of NASA's Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Independent Study Team (UAPIST) held a public meeting and provided an update on their efforts to evaluate data related to UAP.

At that meeting, the Director of the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick delivered a brief presentation on AARO's findings to date and made a stunning revelation...that in the days prior, he had held AARO's first “FIVE EYES FORUM” on UAP, indicating cooperation, collaboration and UAP data sharing across the Five Eyes countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

In this episode of The Unexplained Rundown, we breakdown what this means for Australia''s future involvement in the UAP topic. Links referenced in this episode:

G’day and welcome to THE UNEXPLAINED RUNDOWN. My name is Grant Lavac and I’m just an ordinary guy who believes in extraordinary things...with a healthy degree of skepticism and an open mind thrown in there together for good measure. So, what exactly is THE UNEXPLAINED RUNDOWN? Good question, friend! Allow me to enlighten you with this brief show montage that highlights my love for fun, facts, frankness and fandom on the UAP (UFO) topic.

Australia Day Update: What is Australia doing about UAPs?

Thu, 26 Jan 2023 15:23:27 +1100

Welcome to THE UNEXPLAINED RUNDOWN.

If you’ve found this channel intentionally, then like me, you're intrigued by the unexplained mysteries of this mortal coil of ours and crave to know what’s real and what’s not.

Following Senator Peter Whish-Wilson's questioning of the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Robert Chipman on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) at the senate estimates hearing back on Wednesday 9 November 2022, there's been a quite a lot activity on the UAP topic: ODNI released its long-overdue 2022 Annual Report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena; the US Navy recently released seventy-two heavily redacted "Range Fouler" reports (including the 2004 Nimitz 'Tic Tac' incident) that document incidents defined as "an activity or object that interrupts pre-planned training or other military activity in a military operating area or restricted airspace", and the Parliament of San Marino voted in favour to participate in "Project Titan"...meaning UFOs are set to be discussed at the United Nations for the first time since 1978.

So, with all of this flurry of activity...

Senate Estimates: What is Australia doing about UAPs?

Sat, 12 Nov 2022 12:10:21 +1100

While the world still waits for the impending release of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's updated (and now overdue report) on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), earlier this week, on Wednesday 9 November 2022 at the Senate Estimates hearing in Australian Parliament, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson had the courage and gumption to again - for the second year in a row - raise the issue of UAP in an Australia context and press the new Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Robert Chipman on what Australia is doing about UAPs. This episode is a review and analysis of that exchange.

Brad Voorhees & The Sonic Gravity Theory of Everything

Sun, 06 Nov 2022 08:30:00 +1100

On today's episode of The Unexplained Rundown, I have the privilege and pleasure of talking with BRAD VOORHEES,, host of the Sonic Gravity Podcast - where he offers his listeners the opportunity to view the universe through the eyes of a "madman". As a neurodivergent, Brad is uniquely able to deliver on this perspective because in addition to being autistic and bipolar, he lives with severe ADHD and PTSD from combat service in Afghanistan as an officer in the US Army; which also triggered latent anti-social personality disorder (which means he's what's commonly referred to as a psychopath). In Afghanistan, he invented an algorithm later dubbed pattern of life targeting to kill a terrorist commander who killed his friend Doug, and while working at the US Securities and Exchange commission, he invented an algorithm that peels up insider trading networks in bulk transaction data - like finding a needle in a haystack with a magnet. He holds a bachelors degree and a masters degree in Civil Engineering, and a JD and LLM in Law. He's a father of four, retired military engineer and US Army JAG; he works as a learning officer for the US Securities and Exchange Commission, and in his spare time taught himself just enough theoretical physics so that in 2021, after a 6-month manic episode, triggered by the US Navy's confirmation that UFOs were real, he claims to have discovered Anti-Gravity, UAP propulsion, time travel, why we get tired, why hummingbirds are so fast, the role of consciousness in the universe, the meaning of life, and discovered the Theory of Everything - unifying quantum mechanics and general/special relativity - from first principles in physics. So, whether he's right or wrong, any way you slice it, he's definitely The Madman!

John Rixey Moore

Thu, 04 Aug 2022 08:30:00 +1000

On today's episode of The Unexplained Rundown, I have the privilege and pleasure of talking with JOHN RIXEY MOORE, a highly decorated veteran who served as a Green Beret in the Vietnam war and was involved in a highly secret operation financed and run by the CIA. John is a well-respected author and has published a number of books to date, including his memoir, “Hostage of Paradox”, in which he documents his experiences and first-hand accounts of war in Vietnam. No stranger to television and the silver screen, John proudly holds acting credits on several TV soap operas, including recurring leading roles on “One Life to Live” and “Falcon Crest”, he has appeared as the on-camera announcer in over 460 network commercials and has played roles in a number of memorable Hollywood blockbusters, including Clear and Present Danger with Harrison Ford, and Executive Decision with Kurt Russell. Not one to shy away from sporting achievements, John was a member of the USA Bobsled team and competed internationally in numerous World Cup competitions. He served as boat tune-up crew and sail advisor for the America’s Cup, has driven a home-made car across the United States twice and is an accomplished pilot, having flown his very own single-engine prop plane across the United States some twenty-three times. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Virginia, along with an MBA from the Wharton Graduate Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. He has a keen interest in the crop circle phenomenon and was featured in a 2004 documentary titled, “Unsigned Circles”, in which he interviewed subject matter experts and showcased then newly formed circles in Wiltshire in the UK. Last but not least, and perhaps most interesting, John has long held a fascination for the UFO topic and has a number of intriguing connections to it, which we will explore in today’s conversations.

Kurt Russell & The Phoenix Lights

Sat, 30 Jul 2022 12:12:00 +1000

On this episode of The Unexplained Rundown, I examine one of the most intriguing mass UFO/UAP sightings in modern history, that has more twists & turns than a Hollywood blockbuster!

"The Phoenix Lights" were a series of unidentified flying objects observed in the skies over the southwestern states of Arizona and Nevada on 13 March 1997. More than 10,000 witnesses - of which the actor, Kurt Russell was one - claim to have observed a huge "V" shaped UFO that emitted no sound and no radar signature. To this day, the mystery of The Phoenix Lights remains unsolved.

Join me on The Unexplained Rundown as I reveal EXCLUSIVE NEW INFORMATION on the fascinating case of:

UPDATE: What is Australia doing about UAPs?

Fri, 08 Jul 2022 10:00:00 +1000

On 19 May 2021, the Australian Department of Defence released a press release announcing that Defence would establish a Space Division headquarters within the Royal Australian Air Force in early 2022. Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Mel Hupfeld said assured access to Space was critical to enabling Defence’s multi-domain operations. He also went on to announce the appointment of Air Vice-Marshal Catherine Roberts as Defence Space Commander. “I congratulate Air Vice-Marshal Cath Roberts selected as the inaugural Head of Defence Space Division – there is no person better suited for the job,” Air Marshal Hupfeld said.

On subsequent examination of Catherine Roberts' profile as new Defence Space Commander, I was intrigued to discover that she is "a self-professed science fiction buff" and has always been "fascinated by advanced technology and space". As such, I became very curious to learn her position on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP)...so I decided to find out.

On 15 April 2022, I submitted a FOIA request to the Australian Department of Defence for "all emails, sent to/from | bcc/cc’d Defence Space Commander Air Vice-Marshal Catherine Roberts for the period 25 June 2021 to 15 April 2022 (inclusive), that contain any of the following keywords: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena; UAP; Unidentified Flying Object; UFO; Unidentified Flying Objects; UFOs;, Unauthorised Aircraft Movement; UAM; Unauthorised Aircraft Movements; UAMs; Unusual Aerial Sighting, Unidentified Phenomena.".

Today's livestream is the culmination of that FOIA request.

Join me as I reveal, review and discuss the FOIA response and supporting documents, so we can all better understand...

What is Australia doing about UAPs?

Mon, 14 Mar 2022 10:00:00 +1100

On 25 June 2021, the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence released its preliminary assessment on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP)...yes, that's right...UFOs. Of the 144 case reports they examined between 2004-2021, only one could be identified! The remaining 143 were unexplained and placed into a catchall "other" bin. Fast forward to 27 December 2021, when President Biden signs into law, the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA), mandating the establishment of a new office designed to comprehensively investigate UAPs. Suffice it to say the US is taking the UAP topic very very seriously...but what on earth is Australia doing?

Sit back, relax, pack that virtual bumbag, and join me forthwith as I search for answers to the question:
