About Lorraine

Lorraine Pennyman has spent more than 20 years in higher education at The Ohio State University's Max M. Fisher College of Business, where she currently serves as Director of Experiential Learning and Engagement in Undergraduate Programs. In this role, she provides strategic leadership for experiential learning, student engagement, and co-curricular initiatives serving more than 9,000 undergraduate business students. Across progressive leadership roles, Lorraine has designed and led high-impact programs centered on active engagement, intentional community building, and supporting students from their first year through graduation. She holds a Master's in Educational Foundations from the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from Miami University (Ohio).

Lorraine's commitment to student development extends beyond her formal role through university-wide committee service and community leadership, including her lifelong membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Her contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the Inclusive Excellence Award from Fisher College of Business and recognition in Who's Who In Black Columbus 2024. A self-described servant leader, Lorraine has been married to her college sweetheart for more than twenty years, and they have three children.

Dr. Harris is in private practice in White Plains, NY where she specializes in the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression. She is board certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine (BSM) by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and treats a wide variety of sleep disorders (insomnia, nightmares, circadian rhythm disorders, narcolepsy, apnea treatment noncompliance) using evidence-based non-pharmacological treatments. Before going into private practice, Dr. Harris was the longstanding director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program at the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center at Montefiore Medical Center.
Dr. Harris currently holds a dual academic senior-level appointment as Clinical Associate Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in both the Neurology and Psychiatry Departments. Dr. Harris has published and presented research on the neuropsychological effects of insomnia in older adults as well as behavioral treatments for insomnia, parasomnias, narcolepsy, and excessive daytime sleepiness. She is frequently invited by hospitals and organizations to give grand rounds lectures and workshops.
She obtained her undergraduate degree with honors from Brown University and graduated with her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University. Dr. Harris completed her predoctoral internship at Montefiore Medical Center where she trained in the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center and received advanced postdoctoral training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for anxiety and depression.

The Grade Round Up Experiment with David Loudermilk - The Harlan Cohen Podcast

Months ago, I posted a reel encouraging students to try and ask their teachers to round up their grades if they were close to the next letter grade. High school teacher David Loudermilk saw an opportunity to use this idea to teach self-advocacy. In this conversation, Mr. Loudermilk and I discuss how he turned my controversial concept into a reality, requiring students to use argumentative writing skills (claim, evidence, reasoning) to make their case. We dive into why communication is such a critical skill students need, and how creating safe spaces for self-advocacy prepares young people for life's inevitable rejections and opportunities. About Patrick

Dr. Patrick Hickey, originally from rural Ontario, began his career after a high school counselor encouraged him to pursue nursing. He earned his Nursing Diploma in Canada, then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he worked in a Level 1 trauma center and earned his BSN. Later, in Columbia, SC, he worked in the Operating Room as a clinician, manager, and educator, while serving on the national board of AORN—helping develop the “Time-Out” safety protocol used in surgeries worldwide.

He went on to earn an MS, MSN, and Doctorate in Public Health, researching healthcare barriers for Hispanic populations with limited English proficiency. At the University of South Carolina, he taught for 15 years, leading international healthcare trips for students across medical disciplines. Now retired, he mentors students weekly and serves as USA Medical Director for International Service Learning (ISL).

A passionate traveler, Dr. Hickey and his wife have backpacked through 88 countries and he became the first nurse to climb the Seven Summits—reaching the highest peak on each continent. His book 7 Summits: A Nurse’s Quest to Conquer Mountaineering and Life chronicles his path in life, with all proceeds of book sales going to his scholarships.

As a philanthropist and Angel Pilot, he provides free flights for patients needing medical transport. In November 2025, he will launch his podcast, International Service Learning (ISL): Experiential Medical Education, featuring stories from students, faculty, and global healthcare leaders.

Jeff Levy has been an independent educational consultant since 2007, based in Santa Monica, California. From the Division I coach perspective, we know just how much work the recruiting process requires from students during an incredibly busy period in their lives. Fran Berlin rowed in the NCAA V8+ and graduated from Cornell University with a BS (Cum Laude). She has coached and recruited for winning teams at Cornell, Syracuse and Indiana Universities, and the University of Colorado. ACRA coach of the year, Fran has visited the medals dock multiple times as an athlete and coach at the Eastern Sprints, the BIG TEN Championship and the ACRAs. When she is not helping athletes excel she is traveling the country and world with her young family.

Carmen Mirochna double majored at Rutgers University, while earning multiple medals and competing in the NCAA V8+. She pursued her MPH at Lehigh University and coached for The Baldwin School, Lehigh, Cornell and Indiana Universities as well as The Bolles School. Her medals and honors range from the Stotesbury Cup, Knecht Cup, EAWRC Coach of the Year, BIG TEN BOAT of the week, and the IRA’s to winning the Dad Vail and the Patriot League Championships. Marc Brackett, Ph.D., is founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and professor in the Child Study Center, Yale School of Medicine at Yale University.
