But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. <p> </p>
<p>The message centers on Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:1–6), proclaimed to a grieving and shaken people in the aftermath of 9/11.</p>
<p>Key movements of the sermon:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>“Let not your heart be troubled”: Christ speaks peace to fearful disciples then and now, anchoring shaken hearts on His promises.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>The Way: Jesus’ cross and resurrection provide the solid ground that shoots down every “flight of doubt” Satan launches.</p>

<p>The Truth: Christ alone guarantees justice, security, and hope—not governments, not military might, not human promises.</p>

It warns against the subtle half-truths of culture, education, and even religion that encourage us to “tune into ourselves” or “follow the god within,” showing that this is slavery to sin and death. In contrast, the message calls us to hear the voice of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and to live as His little lambs, sustained by His Word, His blood, and His promises.</p>

15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

16 Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods, 17 for it is the LORD our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed. 18 And the LORD drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.”

19 But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.</itunes:summary>

        <itunes:summary>Joshua 2:9-13
New King James Version
9 and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. 12 Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, 13 and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.”</itunes:summary>

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry. So he prayed to the Lord, and said, “Ah, Lord, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm. Therefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!”

        <itunes:summary>A battle in a castle overlooking Marburg, The contestants in this battle sit around a table in the middle of this room. On one side Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon on the other Ulrich Zwingli, and John Oecolampadius.

Luther teaches that Jesus’ body and blood is really present in the bread and wine of Holy Communion. The how of it is taken on faith. Because is means is.

Zwingli on the other hand teaches that the bread and wine represents or symbolize Christ’s body and blood. He maintains that is simply cannot mean is because that does not make sense.

The political pressure is extremely high for these two protestant teachers to agree and come together.

Listen to find out why and what happens.</itunes:summary>
